In and Out in a Day

Checking in briefly. It's currently 41 degrees here. I'm happy to take some heat off someone....anyone!

Starting to feel normal again. At least the headache has stopped.

Kat - Hope you enjoyed your dinner. Dehydration is no fun! Wish Sheryl's husband well.

Robin - Enjoy the Beach Club. Stormalong Bay is just awesome! I'm staying at the BC Villas in Sep/Oct and can't wait!

Nancy - hope your weekend is a cool one!

Robyn & Nan - Thank you for all the suggestions regarding Kyle and hydration. The company is very good about having water available and nearby but I think Kyle is not drinking until he's thirsty. We've talked about it this weekend, hoping he'll realize he can make this better. Turns out the throwing up the other night was not a result of the heat. He had a stomach virus, today is the first day he's feeling better.

Robyn - Sheryl is doing good! That grandson of hers is such a cutie!

PIO - Glad to hear you're feeling better!

This weekend I made a crawfish etouffee and had to do the grilled romaine salad with bacon and blue cheese again. I'm addicted to it! Made steak and chicken fajitas today with refried black beans.:goodvibes

Good morning all! I thought I would jump back in.

We have been so busy getting Mr A ready for his freshman year in College. Can you believe it my baby in College?

Kat I am on Mr A all the time about drinking water. Since I get kidney stones it is so important to stay hydrated.

Marilyn I hope you hear soon from your Ins and you can get those shots.

Hope everyone else is doing well

I need to get back to work I'll try to get back later

Janice- I chuckle every time you call Mr A your baby. he is how many inches taller than you? :rotfl::rotfl2::goodvibes I agree that it is frightening how fast time goes by, and all of a sudden our kids are no longer "kids". :worried:

Kat- I agree that Kyle is probably waiting too long to drink. You cannot catch up if you wait until you are thirsty. Hopefully, as he adjusts his mind to his body he will feel better. I will say that Buddy had a rough week water wise. He was a mess this week, and y yesterday, even though the heat was not so bad, he had to drag his sorry self out the door. he just did not feel right.

I am working in the basement later today. I think that as a packrat, I spend more time moving stuff from place to place, so I have tossed a lot out. We are having leftovers tonight. We have chicken ad burgers to finish, and a lot of produce to make salad.

talk to you all later!

Thanks ladies. I am hoping for quick relief.

A word about heat, from what I have heard it is best to have one 20 oz. bottle of Gatorade for every two 20 oz. bottles of water. That should keep them hydrated well and their electrolytes in balance.

Luckily our heat broke some over the weekend. Saturday morning it was nice and cloudy so the girls swim meet was not too bad. The clouds broke up just near the end of the meet. We had a thunderstorm in the evening which also cooled things down.

The girls came home with me that night and yesterday we went to a local amusement park and my godsons and BFF came. It's one of those places where you can pay for individual rides or buy 3 hour or all day passes. We did the three hour which also included go-karts that were not a part of the three hours so it ended up giving them about 4 hours of ride time at the park.

It rained for a little bit but the kids kept right on riding rides, they must have ridden the roller coaster more than 20 times The place has bumper boats and the one rule we had was that they had to stay out of the waterfall as we didn't have changes of clothes or towels. My youngest godson got forced into it, there were too many boats surrounding him, so he got drenched. We were dying laughing because when he realized he was headed for it he nearly jumped out of the boat. :rotfl2:

They all ended up soaked anyway because they could shoot each other and my oldest GS blasted the heck out of the other three. :rolleyes2 We ended the weekend with dinner at The Greene Turtle.

Hi my dear dear friends,

I am home!! We got home early Monday morning. I swear yesterday I was a zombie :rolleyes1.

I have a desk of work to sort through, so give me a few days and I will be back and caught up. I really missed you all!!

WFDT ~ I have no idea, but I can guarantee it won't consist of any chicken or rice. :rotfl2:

Make it a great day!!

Welcome home, Ellen!!!

Very busy at work this week, will check in when I can! All of the Food & Wine events have been announced, we're in full planning mode.

WFD - Scrambled egg muffins, bacon, hash browns and biscuits.

/
Ellen- welcome home!!!

Kathy- I'm always in planning mode. One day I or to make it food and wine. The flower show is at the top of my list though

It's been so busy here but things should start to slow down in a couple of weeks.

Good Wednesday morning!

Ellen- Welcome home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I missed you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kat and Robin- I am so jealous! I wanted to take Kady this year but I was not able to justify the cost after the last trip we took and I am not taking time from school later in the year. BOOOOOO! You must have cocktails for me every day!

I had threatened to book something if Buddy's crop failed....he was positive it would. So far..............it is alive and kicking so no get-away for us

This is a sad week for us. My dear friends who share neighbor night at our house....his Dad passed on Monday. Buddy worked with John for over 30 years, and he sure was a character. Would not pass an entry level diversity test, but funny as heck! My heart is breaking for our friends, as Jeannie out it "He was a PITA, but he was our PITA." :sad1:

No dinner but leftovers tonight, We have to go to the wake, and it will be old home week for Buddy. Every driver who is still alive will make it.

Hi everyone. Jumping back in. 3D life is rather challenging at the moment and I'm not finding a lot of time to live my 2D lifestyle. I'm so missing being on line and finding out how everyone is.

Hope you're all well.

I am jumping back in too! Hi everybody!

Ellen, welcome home! Are you going to put up pictures on facebook? I would love to see them.

Robin, I have always wanted to stay at the Beach Club. We did Boardwalk one time and loved it. The pool at Beach Club looks amazing.

WFD: vegetarian summer rolls.

Happy hump day

Thanks everybody for the welcome home. You have no idea how much I missed you all. I took tons of pictures but none on my cell phone as I don't have an International plan on it. I left it at home. Doug's phone had the right plan on it but we used it very little as the roaming charges were very high. I will try to get some up though. We had a really good week and got everything done we set out to do. This year we were able to replace the fence at the Bongo Arriba school. This is just one of the 6 schools in Bongo. We also painted the outside of the school.

We bought school supplies for the 46 children in attendance. Each child received a writing notebook, 2 pencils, 12 colored pencils, a box of crayons for the little ones– the older children received a box with a protractor, drawing compass, and different rulers, eraser, pencil sharpener, pen, a pair of scissors and a bottle of glue.

The kitchen was in need of supplies We were able to get 50 lbs of corn, a new corn grinder, 5 gallons of oil, 25 tins of tuna, 50 lb. bag of lintels, 2 large pots and a new propane tank for the stove (theirs had been stolen and every day one was brought in by one of the parents).

One surprise we did have was there was no water at the school. So we bought a new water tank and a pressure tank. This was needed to provide water for the kitchen and toilets. They had been bringing water in and the children were using the latrine. Now the toilets can flush and the cooks have running water. They were very thankful. All in all we had a very rewarding and wonderful week. But I was VERY glad to be home in the good ole USA. :cool1:

Kat ~ I hope you are feeling better. I saw that you were fighting vertigo again.
Is Kyle getting use to the heat. Getting dehydrated is NOTHING to fool around with. Tell him to drink, drink, drink.

Laura & Becky ~ I loved your photos in your tropical paradise. ;) You are so lucky to go as often as you do.

Marilyn ~ I sure hope you start feeling better and get some answers soon.

PIO ~ Take it easy - you work to hard.

Nan ~ I missed you too!!! More than you know! So very sorry for your loss. Poor Buddy. Please know my prayers are with you all.

Robin ~ Sometime busy is good. I know it will slow down for you but I hope you are enjoying your summer.

Janice ~ My heart is with you my friend. When does Mr. A leave? You have my number sweetie, call me if you need to talk. Been there done that.....maybe I can be a shoulder. :flower3:

WFDT ~ Chicken salad stuffed tomatoes with crackers and sweet tea. Perfect summer meal in my opinion. :rotfl:

Make it a great day all.

Ellen- wow!!! What a busy time you had, but so much accomplished! My church sends supplies to Haiti and one of the drives is for school supplies. No pencil, no school. Please try to get rested up, nothing worse than coming home and getting sick.

Nan - So sorry for the loss of your friend.

PIO - We miss you but understand, we've all been there.

Becky - Welcome back! Your pics and Laura's were amazing. Looked like heaven on earth.:cloud9:

Ellen -I've said it before, I admire you and what you do so much. You are a very special woman.

We're going to F&W later than usual this year hoping to see the beginning of the Christmas decorations and catch cooler weather. Sad we won't be going with Sheryl & Bob though. One event we've never had the chance to book is available during our dates...the signature dinner at California Grill!!! Only 40 seats available so I'll be on that phone at 6AM on the 13th! Wish me luck!

Kathy- good luck getting a reservation. We went at thanksgiving a few years ago and spent a day going to the different resorts just to look at the Christmas decorations.

Ellen- sounds like you had a very productive trip. How many people go down with you?

Becky- sounds like you and Laura have been having a good summer. I think Liam is one year ahead of my kiddo, so he must be going into high school!?!

Nancy- it doesn't seem right to say I'm sorry the crop is doing well but I'm sorry that means no getaway. Last night I had a dream the pan-mas people all camped out in my front yard.

The dog really seams to think I should be taking him out so I should get going. Have a great day all.

Good morning all!

Well it is countdown time now. Mr A moves in to his dorm on the 15th  I so hope I can not embarrass myself and/or Mr A. My dining room is looking like a dump with all his stuff. It is amazing how much stuff he needs it is just like setting up an apartment.

Ellen I am glad you are back. I can't imagine being without the basics

Kathy Good luck with your ressie

Ellen, wow! That is amazing! Such good work you have been doing. Those kids are blessed to have you and your group to help them out.

Robin, yes, Liam is going in to high school in the fall. I am amazed! He is also 6 inches taller than me now :scared1:

We have been having a great summer, thanks. In addition to the Caribbean trip we have gotten out to Wellfleet a couple of times for long weekends, and are coming back at the end of August through the Labor Day weekend--12 nights. We are planning on visiting some of the ponds you told me about.

Kathy, that is so cool that you can go to the California Grill dinner! I really want to go back to Food and Wine but the kids have gotten too old to pull from school now and I would feel guilty going to Disney without them. We have been kicking around the posible idea of coming down during April vacation next year, but I am not sure.

Well, per usual I did not end up making what I had planned for dinner last night. I got home later than expected and did not have time to do all the vegetable prep to make the summer rolls, so we are having those tonight instead. I made Thai chicken with basil leaves last night. This is the recipe I used:

http://rasamalaysia.com/thai-basil-chicken-recipe-gai-pad-krapow/

It was really good and very fast to make--20 minutes start to finish (I used my food processor to chop the shallots/garlic and to grind the chicken). I didn't have palm sugar so I used brown sugar. I did add a tsp. of dark soy sauce, some sriracha, and a splash of chicken stock, but otherwise I followed the recipe. I really love the flavor of Thai basil. I served it with rice.

Have a great day everyone!

Afternoon everyone,

Nan ~ I agree - I don't want to get sick. Once I got some good sleep to me I feel much better.

Kat ~ You are to kind. Thank you, but really it is just a passion of mine. Those sweet faces of children when they get a book or a new pencil is enough to make me keep going back.

Robin ~ We are always a small group. We usually are 10 - 12 people. This year we had 7 from Nebraska and joined 4 from Houston. Perfect group.

Janice ~ Oh sweetie, I so understand. Don't worry for one minute if you cry. Mr. A will totally understand. Heck he might even shed one to. It is a big adjustment to not just you, but him also. Tears just mean you love him and will miss him. I guarantee NO ONE will even notice.
It just hit me last night that this is the first time in 29 years I will not have a child starting school. WOW - just blew my mind. I am getting old!! :(

Becky ~ I loved your pictures of paradise. You are so lucky you can get away so much.
Your Thai chicken sounds so yummy. Thanks for sharing.

We are to get some nasty storms tonight. I really wish it would hold off, Elizabeth just called and wanted to know if I would like to join her and the boys for a night out at the County fair. The guys have Men's night at the Country Club so it will be just us. I really want to go, but if it is going to rain it will spoil it. We shall see!!

WFDT ~ a 4H burger at the café on the fair grounds and a piece of homemade pie. I can't wait!!

Make it a great day!!

Ellen- thanks for getting that 4h burger. My daughter is in 4h and I love working in the kitchen at the fair. You could get a full plated dinner for the same price as the heavy fried food. We weren't able to do it this summer and I really missed it. I didn't miss the drive though, we live far from the fairgrounds.

Becky- I would give April a second thought. I think patriots day and Easter are the same week this year. I heard last Easter was busier than Christmas, add patriots week to that and it could be awful. Having said that the only time we can go is presidents week and we just accept the fact that it will be busy and enjoy relaxing in great weather.

Wow 2 days in a row a new record for me!

Becky We went 1 year in April and while it was warm we had a great time. The only time I would not do again was wrapped around the 4th of July. The crowds were insane, never again!
Ellen We haven't gone to a county fair in years. I don't know why  There is one that I loved going to they have the best pork chop sandwiches.

Mr A and I are getting the final stuff done. It will fell great once everything is done. I still feel like a chicken with her head cut off.

Dinner last night was on the fly. We didn't get home until 7:30. We were so tired we didn't even think about going through a drive-thru until we were home.
