In and Out in a Day

Merle ~ Yea for the boys. Did you get all the cookies made?

Yes I did. :thumbsup2

Just finished taking a shower. The lights flickered a little bit and I figured I should do it now in case we lose electricty. My DM did all the laundry so we're good for the next week with that.

When I went upstairs I took a tap light with me and turned it on in the bathroom so I wouldn't be in the dark if the lights went out. ;)

Really windy and rainy right now with the worst still to come. Sandy doesn't seem to want to come onshore yet. :scared:

Getting ready to power down the computer, will see you all on FB or when this ends.

Kat- Robin is on the cape and Brandi is in Maryland. I have not heard from either since this started.

I'm here and good! I don't know what we did to deserve this but the lights didn't even flicker! Many outings around us, but we are just staying safe inside so I don't know what any of the damage is like. It was VERY windy, but we have been beyond fortunate. Of course, the night isn't over but I think the worst is. Have a good night all, time for bed.

Checking in again. My sister in VA has lost power and she asked me to check to see what the estimated timeline for restoration is, her WiFi is out and she is not getting good reception on her phone. When she was able to get on earlier it estimated 11:15pm now it's saying "not known".

I was here in the basement about an hour ago and heard a loud gust of wind and a rattle. Went upstairs and DM said it sounded like something brushed up against the house. We looked out and can see a limb in the neighbors yard but it doesn't look like it came from the tree it is lying against. And none of the trees I can see seem to be missing any limbs so not sure where it came from.

Right now it seems the wind gusts have calmed down but it's raining like crazy.

Robin - Thank God you made it through, stay safe!

Marilyn - I would imagine it will be a while before power is restored to your sister. Hopefully, not too long.

Becky & Laura are both ok.

Checking IN! Thank God everyone is safe so far! My area is fine, power is spotty and like Robin, we are Blessed. Don't know why. Marisa is in the center and has power and Dan and Erica do as well. Donny and Anna are out. Don said he heard a huge boom and then lights out. Power is out right down the was. Our shoreline is a mess and the roads are still closed until noon.

Ladies - I hope everyone is okay. Been thinking of y'all ALL day....the reports on the storm do not look good.

Glad to see some of you checking in and also with news of everyone else.

I know Brandi had stocked up beforehand. Hopefully she'll check in on another thread if/when power is back up?

So glad to see our family checking in! Hopefully, the worst is past. Take care, everyone!

Initial Sandy reports from this gang are sounding positive - that's great! However, as we NOLA gals know to well, it's not over 'til it's over!! Praying the news continues to be good.

Just wanted to pass along an excerpt I read in a local business publication.
Know that this is just one of many LA-based crews who'll be headed that way to do what's become too familiar - volume feeding during disaster recovery. So if you see a LA license plate, or hear a strange accent, you know the food will be good and the comforting hugs are sincere!!!

More than 100 employees of Wayne Stabiler's Catering Cajun struck out for the Northeast around 4 a.m. Sunday, and the Baton Rouge company says its people will be in Delaware, Virginia and Maryland as long as they're needed to help the hundreds of utility workers staged there to battle approaching Hurricane Sandy. "We will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and coffee for these working men and women until all power is restored, regardless of how many days or weeks it takes," says Stabiler, whose Baton Rouge businesses also include Little Village and Le Creolé restaurants. Catering Cajun will also provide trailers in which workers can rest, and it's assisting with their laundry needs. The trailers were sent up north along with three refrigerated trucks loaded with supplies from Baton Rouge.

Oh my I am so glad to know that maybe the worst is over for a lot of our friends. It is just so sad to see all the destruction that Sandy has caused. But as long as lives are spared that is all that matters.

If there is anything I can do for any of you please PM me and I will do my best to make it happen.

Just checking in. :grouphug: It's times like these I wish we weren't all so far from each other. I'm grateful that it seems like all our people from this thread and all their people have checked in. Is anybody still unaccounted for?

Most of you that read this thread know I used to live in NYC, so this Sandy coverage is hard to see. It's hard to see things familiar to you all torn up and underwater. :sad1: I knew the city was vulnerable to this kind of thing happening, but I was really hoping it wouldn't actually happen, and New Jersey....OMG. :sad1:

I think all my friends are okay, but I'm making assumptions on a couple of them. :worried: Some of them do have some damage. One knows he has water in his apartment, but isn't home and therefore does not know how much. Another was told it will be two weeks before she gets power back...salt water got into the system and also the transformer blew or something. :confused3

I apologize for not updating the trip report like I said I intended to. I just could not get into the WDW spirit the last few days.

You may know that I was one of those folks whose town was shut down by Storm Alfred last year. Our State had almost 100% without power and the trunk lines all were submerged in the CT river. Well I have to share with you that when the NOLA trucks started rolling into town our lights began to go back on. We were out for ten days and it was cold. I kept getting progress reports from folks in other areas of our town that if I saw that caravan rolling in we would be okay. I know that we had wonderful crews from all over come int o help us but those Nola linemen were out Stars, they touched people on every street they put back in order. :goodvibes

Thank you so much Ellen. I know that my area is blessed but there are so many who never were able to get back to normal after Irene last year. These folks are the ones who got hit again this time. It was reminiscent of the Hurricane in 1938. The people who live itn the Sound have such a lovely sheltered beach but when the wind brings all that water in it cannot escape and has nowhere to go so it just kept rolling in.

Most of you that read this thread know I used to live in NYC, so this Sandy coverage is hard to see. .

I cannot stop thinking about you. It must be so hard to be there and know that your friends are affected in such a devastating way. Buddy and I have been wondering how NYC is really faring after this.

We are back to normal here. I am behind on schoolwork so after class today I am doing homework before getting ready for the trick-or-Treaters. Dan and Erica will be here for dinner so I think I will make sauerkraut and hotdogs and maybe potato salad or macaroni salad. I really do not want to go back to the store, I think I had cleaned out every shelf in the days prior to teh storm, so I want to use up what I bought. I do wnat to make cole slaw so I will stop by one store.............oh geez!

Bethany -

Happy to hear that all of our northeastern ladies have made it through with all family members safe and sound. Property can be repaired or replaced.

It has been hard to watch a lot of the coverage, it brings back so many memories. Hopefully lessons learned in Katrina will help those affected by Sandy.

WFD - Grilled lime chipotle pork chops, salsa rice and green beans.

Glad everyone is safe. :goodvibes

I may not be around for the next 11 days or so. I'll be in California...flying out tomorrow.

The last couple of days has been a rush and I'm really looking forward to getting on that plane.

Keep well all.

Bethany - It just seems unreal to me! The pictures and the stories from my NYC friends! One of my closest friends lives in a building opposite that crane that was dangling. It was really scary to hear him talk about the storm.

It feels so removed, though. Out here in Utah, we don't really understand the devastation. We've never experienced anything like it (knock on wood). However, my church has organized relief trucks with food and other supplies to be sent to NJ and NY. It's not much, but it's something that we can do. Timmy and I went to the relief center yesterday and put together sanitation kits to be sent. I can't donate blood anymore, but this is something that I can do.

Today is the wax museum for the twins. Leslie is dressed as Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Mary is dressed as Helen Keller. I'll be heading to the school in about 3 hours to see the museum. I'll take pictures and get them on facebook as soon as I can. After the museum, they'll get in their Halloween costumes... Leslie as a hippy, and Mary as Anabeth from Percy Jackson. Katie is also a hippy, and is totally digging her bell bottoms and peace signs. Jacob is going to be Percy Jackson, complete with a sword he made himself. He had to promise not to take it to school, and to leave it in the scabbard during trick or treating tonight. Timmy is Batman, and Alan is the Joker. I will be staying home (dressed as a Muggle) to pass out candy. This works for me, as I still have quite the sore throat.

I spent about 5 hours at the high school yesterday, working on costumes. At this point, we are in pretty good shape. I only need a few more pieces, and there are about 24 dresses that need alterations. Hopefully, we can get that all done within about a week, as dress rehearsals start soon. The show opens on November 12, so time is running out. I'll go back today for a couple of hours, but no more than that. Thursday, I'll probably spend most of the day there doing hand sewing, etc.

Have a Happy Halloween, everyone! Tonight's dinner is Chili Cheese Chips aka Werewolf Brains!

Robin - Thank God you made it through, stay safe!

Marilyn - I would imagine it will be a while before power is restored to your sister. Hopefully, not too long.

Becky & Laura are both ok.

They are up and running, luckily not more than 24 hours.

Our electric company, BGE (Dsis has a different co), had a lot of extra out of state crews come in before the storm. They had all the crews start working as soon as outages started and continue until it got to bad to work. Then they were able to start early yesterday morning and are down to less the 75,000 from more than 350,000. Not sure how many total in the state as there are several different companies here.

The governor said on the news that as soon as they were able to they would start sending crews and any other resources needed north.

PIO - I hope you have a safe flight and a wonderful time!:goodvibes

Glynis - Can't wait to see the pics!

Marilyn - I am amazed at how fast the power was restored! Our electric company could certainly learn a thing or two from them.:rolleyes1

WFD - Roman chicken, smothered potatoes and a salad.

A very quick IN!
PIO- safe travels!

Bethany- I still cannot believe the devastation in NYC. Erica just watched a "It could Happen" show which was a hurricane scenario in NYC. :sad1:

GLynis- are you feeling better?

Marilyn- I saw you did not have Halloween. I miss your decorations. :sad1: After last year I just could not bring myself to put mine outside.

I am way behind on homework so I am off to the table and Financial accounting. BBL!
