Besides DL and GCalif. park...what else is not to miss in this area? Is Universal worth ? We will be there for 7 days/6 nights...staying at DL with a 5 day hopper after spending 3 days in San Diego. Total vacation June 24-July 3rd..never been to CA before....traveling with husband and 2 sons ages 5 & 10....thanks!!!!!!!1 :earsgirl:

Universal is pretty fun and probably worth a day of your time (you won't need more than that). I recommend a weekday (although that means dealing with the traffic) because it will be less crowded and more likely that there will be filming going on in the backlot. If there's filming going on, it makes the backlot tour much more interesting.

For a non-theme park experience - try this place. Really cool and one of the few non-Disney things in LA that I can remember from my childhood!

If you have'nt already got your tickets, check out City Pass for So. Cal. It's available here at Costco but I think you can get it online. I think the Delmar fair or the Orange county fair will be going on while you are there. Don't miss a day of relaxation in Laguna beach. I love the Orange County Swap Meet (called the market place). The aquarium of the Pacific is nice and so is Scripps in La Jolla.

Somebody told me Knotts Berry Farm has what they considered the best roller coaster they'd ever been on.

As a die-hard baseball fan, I'd suggest checking if the Angels will be in town while you are there. I went there this summer. I wasn;t overly impressed as there were many distractions for someone who loves baseball pure and simple, but the boys might enjoy it better like that. They have a skills area upstairs in right field where they can play all sorts of baseball simulation games.

If you are baseball fans try to catch a game. We are going to be in California from Aug 1 - 10. It works out that while we are in Anaheim the Angels are playing and while we are in San Diego the Padres are playing. My husband and son are THRILLED!!!!
Have a great trip.

I second the vote for Knotts Berry Farm! They have a wonderful wooden rollercoaster Ghostrider that is a blast! They have some other good rides as well.

In our opinion the California Universal was kind of *ho hum* and we weren't all that impressed. There were a few fun rides like Jurassic Park but it just didn't seem to have that much for us to do. Maybe we hit it at an off time or something.

Here's another vote for the LaBrea Tar Pits! We were just there last week and we loved it! Next time, we want to catch a taping of a TV show too--you might want to look into that.
