Don't EVER leave your purse/handbag unattended in your shopping cart, keep it on you at all times. I was just at the store where a lady was all upset and crying looking for something. I thought maybe her child got lost, but it turns out that someone stole her purse from the cart while she was looking at Mother's Day cards.

I have seen so many women do this and I usually say something to them to keep an eye on their purses. Many years ago a woman tried to steal my purse at Publix, I had put it in my shopping cart and just turned to get something. When I turned around, the woman was walking away with my cart and the purse in it. I had to chase her down and she pretended that she had grabbed my cart by mistake. This became such a problem at that Publix that the management posted warning signs at the entrance to let customers know about the theft incidents.

So again, keep your purses/handbags on you. ::yes:: ::yes::

yeah - I actually got quite a lecture from someone at Wal-Mart...she actually berated me to hold onto my purse instead of leaving it in the carriage.

totally understand where she was coming from - but she didn't have to speak to me like I was a child.

but you are very right - it's good advice.

Stinker~ I swear, that wasn't me!;) :teeth: Maybe the person was a police officer and he/she knows that's one way purses get stolen. However, I'm not saying that their tone was acceptable.

no-no - it was as Wal-Mart employee. I TOTALLY understand where she was coming from...except it was quite embarassing to have people looking at us while she yelled at me. That's all.

Ever since a friend's got stolen from the W-M cart, I always wrap the child seat belt through the straps several times. It wouldn't stop a hardened criminal, but it would prevent someone from quickly grabbing and darting away while I reached for an item.

I got gripped out once for just leaving my purse on the floor and I was right by it(it was while looking for a DVD)

:o I sometimes do this.

Once, I went to pick through a pile of tomatoes, I turn around and my cart had disappeared! I looked up and down the produce section and then wandered down a few aisles over and there it was in the cereal aisle! I think some poor soul had accidentally wandered off with the wrong cart and then just left it there (or it was some prankster)....

...thank goodness my purse wasn't in there at the time, would've had a heart attack!

Good reminder.:)

Fastening the seatbelt through your purse strap is the best thing to do if you're going to put your purse in a shopping cart. That will keep someone from snatching it and running...just remember they can still try to take off with the whole cart if they really want what's in your purse.

I used to be bad about doing that, but now Jacob sits in the front, so I have to carry my purse.

My DH's grandmother lost $1500.00 cash by having her purse snatched in a shopping cart too.

My mother had her purse stolen while visiting her father's grave, less than 10 feet from the car. She left the bag on the front seat with the window open and she watched as a guy on a bicycle rode away with it.

Also, my SIL got up from her booth at a pizza place to get her order and her purse was stolen.

Thanks for the reminder, I hate people that intentionally make people victims of any kind.

Thanks for the warning. I think I take it for granted sometimes because I do most of my shopping on a military base and there arent many criminals to be found. You just assume they are honest. I guess it's because if they got caught stealing it would be the end of their career. Or if it was a dependent their sponsor (the military member) would get in a huge amount of trouble. I still need to be more careful. :( You never know

At the local Meijer store you have to watch your cart even when you leave. We have a group that will pull up in their van and grab your groceries as you load them into your car. They jump out the side door of the van, grab, and go!!They usually target people that appear to be unable to react fast. (elderly, those with small children) This store is also known for the purse snatchers. They drive up next to you and grab it as you are walking.
I carry a "friendship stick" in my trunk :p Mess with me and you could become friends with it:p

I am a Publix Employee, and have to remind some women about this same thing.:o They usually thank me, and zip their WIDE OPEN Purses closed.

I had that happen at Meijers about 7 years ago. Silly me, I left my purse in the cart, left the cart in one aisle while I walked around the corner to grab something in the next aisle over, just a few seconds. Thats all it took, it was gone. It is a terrible feeling knowing that someone has all of your information and credit cards. They got like $9.00 and left the rest of the stuff thrown all over the parking lot.
