I have been expressing my dissatisfaction about not getting detailed or timely communications from Member Services about my 2 weeks of vacation that has been canceled due to closure.

I wrote to Member Services to express my disappointment in not getting any communications or instructions, and doubt that I will be able to use my 133 banked points by February 1 (6 month extension from the August 1 expiration date).

I got a personalized response 2 days later (today). And was surprised to learn none of my points have an extension. I have 133 banked points and 300 current use year points which must be used by August 1. My only option I was tols is to deposit into RCO. And I must deposit them by June 17 (why? no idea. Can't find anything that says that.)

So lesson here is - if you are canceled already, are likely to, call or write member services and get a written statement of your options before it's too late to choose some.

I will just say that right now, no exceptions for late banking and extension for banked points for Aug UY is being given,

However, if the resorts stay closed through a August 1st, there is a good chance your points will be given the same exceptions that April and June UY were given,

They did allow people who put in RCI to pull them back, So, while right now, you will have lose them if you don’t book for June or July, if the closing lasts longer, things and policies could change,

My suggestion is to keep checking the website for updates as we learn over the next few weeks when DVC resorts may open.

For an August use year, June 17 is the last day you can deposit into RCI without running into pretty severe booking windows when booking your RCI vacation. (Points need to be deposited at least 45 days in advance of expiration to avoid those restrictions).

RCI Disclosure Document.

I have said many time that I am a new member and I don't know much at all about the banking/borrowing but I can give my experience.

Our May24-29 at Copper Creek was canceled by me a couple of weeks ago. Point allocation for this reservation was :

75 -2019 point August UY
125 -2020 points borrowed August UY
20 -OTU points purchased

I called and was able to get a refund on the OTU points. Moved the 2019 points to my September reservation (IDK if they had to bank them or not) and the 2020 points were returned to their UY AUGUST 2020.

I had a December trip booked borrowing 2021 points, but those were put back and I have since canceled the December trip.

This is what I have booked as of now: 2 nights @ AKV value studio-16 pts, 3 nights @ AKV CL studio-58 pts, and I have 2 value studios booked for March @ 48 pts each.

Using the original 75 from 2019 and 95 from 2020. I am left with 30pts from 2020.

This was the same day that I spoke with "Sven" and he told me about the projected opening of June 15 with MK and MK resorts being the first to open and others to follow in subsequent phases. (As of now i don't know if the projected opening will happen since it is few weeks away).

Thanks for sharing the experience. It was mentioned that if reservations effected were beyond their booking window during resort closure they would be given the exception,

It seems you were! What is odd is that OP wasn’t given that yet...maybe because you had the Sept reservation already they worked some magic?

Regardless, glad it worked out in your favor!

Sven was probably making stuff up, as that would be Material Information from an SEC perspective and not something to be given to an at-home phone rep in advance of the market.

RCI deposits have always been 45 days before points expiry.
You can also deposit them as late as 14 days prior to expiration, but late deposits come with booking restrictions. The The Disclosure document I referred to provides more detail.

I believe they are giving 2019 banking exceptions to Aug UY's (and Sept if necessary) if they have a reservation that took them beyond their banking window and the resorts were still not open. That came at the same time they announced the 2018 point exceptions and banking exceptions for Apr and June UY's. OP did not have a banking exception - they have 2018 banked points which as you mention there is no exception for yet.

That is what it said, but it is surprising to see they have already done the late banking for someone with a Aug UY.when April and June UY points will not be banked for use for almost a month on June 5th.

So, having it done immediately was the surprise and gift I was referring to, especially since the OP stated he was told his points would not be banked late.

People are getting points banked for Apr and June if they call in. What it seems they absolutely have to wait for is the 6 month extension of 2018 banked points.

if your trip was cancelled due to resort being closed on your dates they are allowing late banking for 2019 Aug use year so you shoukd call back. Banker 2018 points are another story as they have not stated they’ll allow that six month extension for anyone except Apr and June UY.

Good to know. Most of what I read were told banking would be delayed too. I think it’s inconsistent at best then

Was your cancelled reservation after March 31? There is info on the member website regarding closure cancellations after your banking deadline.

https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/borrow-points/policy-updates/
We know that some Members booked Disney Vacation Club Resort stays during the closure period using Points that are set to expire this year. 2019 Use Year Points for April and June that are set to expire in 2020 and that were used for these reservations will be extended for one year from the current expiration date. 2018 Use Year Points for April and June that were banked into 2019 and used for these reservations will be extended for 6 months from their current expiration date.
  • This temporary policy only includes expiring Points that were used to book a stay between March 12 and the end of the closure period and that involve a reservation cancelled after February 29.
  • Members with later Use Years should follow normal banking guidelines to bank their current Use Year Vacation Points. If a reservation was cancelled due to the Resort closure after the Member’s banking window, an exception will be made to bank the allotted Points associated with that reservation.
  • One-Time-Use Points remaining from a cancelled reservation can be refunded upon request.
  • In addition, to better support Member availability, Disney Vacation Club is not eligible to use the 6-month extension on previously banked developer Points.

I have a big update.
I've been trying to reach member services for a few days but could not wait through the long wait times during work hours. Today, I got through. I asked to review my cancellation situation and to confirm that my only real option is to lose my 433 points or deposit into RCI, where I would need to take at least 3 non-Disney vacations to be equal to my one canceled Disney trip. She repeated the same information that my points have to be used by August 1, except for those borrowed from the 2020 use year.

I asked why April and May use years get preferential treatment when the policy was published April 24, after my banking deadline and, and pointed out there was no way to know May would be closed at March 31 when I had to bank. She asked to put me on hold. When she came back, she said they are able to bank my 2019 UY points to 2020 UY as long as they were canceled by Disney automatically. She went and checked that and confirmed it.

So, had I canceled only own, I would have been required to deposit 433 points to RCI.
Because I waited to have them canceled by DVC, I saved my current 300 UY. I have to move only the prior banked 133 points to RCI. This is much more agreeable. I can surely manage one extra vacation in RCI somewhere.
