Just wondered if anyone has had problems with pop-ups after visiting, or ordering from the free silver site? I have ordered a few things in the past couple of weeks as gifts, and since then, have been experiencing difficulty with pop-ups, some of which are quite questionable. DH spent a great deal of time running different spy-ware programs on our computer, and found some things that were written right onto the computer registry. Still can't remove one of them. Have not ever experienced this problem before, and no other new programs running on our computer.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this...wondered if a warning is in order.

Thanks for any input!

OMG and my poor teenaged son got seriously reprimanded for the very questionable site that showed up in the registry. DH did get rid of it, but it took quite some time. Oh well, DS now knows how serious it would be for him to check that stuff out!:)

I have orderd about 8 items from that website and I haven't had any pop-ups or anything.

No problems here (and I have ordered about 20 pieces total.) We have pop up killer on my computer, but I often have it turned off and I never have pop up problems unless I go to questionable sites (not nasty, but places that try to scam you on deals, you won a free lap top ect....). Never had a pop up problem while at silver jewerly site.

I did get a spam email after and I asked if others got the same, but they didn't so I think it was from something else. (it was not of "questionable nature)

I haven't had any other spam I linked to the site or ordering either.

I wonder if THAT'S what's been causing those sites to show up in our history! Dh and I have been watching and trying to figure out where they're coming from ... I'm going to have to check my history after going there and see if they appear. :scratchin

I have not had any problems but I have Window Washer installed which cleans everything off, including my history everytime I shut down. I also have a popup blocker, it notifies me when it is blocking something and have not had any problems. It is so hard to tell where that stuff comes from.

No problems here!! Been ordering from there for a month or two at least (approx 20 pieces). :confused3

I haven't had any problems yet, and I use several computers including a work computer.

we have had tons of pop ups since I ordered (I didn't know why). A few are quite disqusting and I hope DD doesn't see it. Another is Win something....wanting you to sign up for a service. DH has all kinds of protection and the Adware we have run several times. I wonder if that's where it's coming from?

I have had tons of pop ups since I started looking at the site but I also blamed my son. Now I guess I have to apologize. He insisted he wasn't going to those kind of sites but of course I didn't believe him. Now I have to let him know it was his mother who brought on the garbage.
I also look at the site at work but haven't had any problem with pop ups. I guess either they have a good blocker or it might not be the site after all.
But Yes, I have had alot of popups since I started buying silver. Peggie

No problems here, however we do have programs in place to avoid pop-ups. But I have been ordering since September.

I have also had tons of pop ups (some inappropriate), especially from "win fixer" ever since I ordered from the free silver site. I have no idea how to make them stop. :confused3

Maybelle - There is a FREE program that stops that stuff from getting into the registery I have been running it for 2 1/2 years and it really works!!
It is called
SpywareBlaster
http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10396039.html

SpywareBlaster works way different than SpyBlaster. SpywareBlaster doesn't scan for and clean spyware - it prevents it from being installed in the first place. SpywareBlaster prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, dialers, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs. It can also block spyware/tracking cookies in IE and Mozilla/Firefox, and restrict the actions of spyware/ad/tracking sites.

Then to dig out that last item Try
AVG antivirus-
http://www.download.com/3000-2239-10342876.html

I put these and Zone Alarm firewall and the Google tool bar with pop up blocker on the new computer I got last Christmas and it has had no problems, runs like a dream!!. I haven't had any problems with the free jewery site.

PS. Do you have System Restore turned on? If so turn it off. Sometimes that will dislodge those sticky bugs.

Thanks Tink2dw, I will ask my dh if he has tried that particular program. He has been working on the computer for the past several days trying one spyware program after another, with only some sucess. The one we still can't get rid of is Winfixer, as someone else mentioned, and it is really a pain...when you close it it sometimes closes whatever program you are in! I am now convinced that the infection came from the silver site since others have mentioned "Winfixer", and "Win-something".

I would warn everyone to have a really good pop-up blocker if you visit this site. We do have a pop-up blocker set up that has worked fine in the past and stuff still got through!!!

Save yourselves some annoyance and DON'T VISIT FREESILVER.COM!!!! You very well may regret it!!!

Bumping this up, because I want to get the warning out to people about this site!

Yes, that's the one we have. We have used Adware and other blockers and are still getting it. Now we are getting very unappropiate things as well. Never had a problem until I ordered from this site.

Ok look. Download Spywareblaster. It has custom blocking, where you can enter the Winfix and it will block it for you!! this program is like Roto Rooter!! And it will stop anymore of those things getting into your regestry!! It has blocked 4988 of those pop ups, dialers, toolbars, seach pages - those ones that hijack your home page from getting into my computer.

Maybelle - One more thing to try to get rid of Winfix is most of the adware and spyware is run with ActiveX have your Dh turn Off the ActiveX on your computer that should help dislodge your problem. ActiveX is used to play games so if you play games on your computer he will need to turn it back on after he has cleaned out the messy Bit.
