Here's the other installment of my dining report. I also have to correct my trip report and say that I totally messed up one morning there - we did Boma for breakfast before AKL! LOL I don't know how I forgot that!
Liberty Tree Tavern (MK)(lunch) - This has been a favorite of mine for a while now. I *was* however, very disappointed when they took 'my' Shrimp & Grits off the menu in July! ::sniff:: That was SO good! However, I still had a pretty yummy lunch here anyway! They had the Potato and Applewood Smoked Bacon soup this day, so I *had* to have that! LOL It's a pureed potato base, with the bacon in it, and it is terrific!! I think I was the only one who got an appetizer..
For our entrees, I had the Beacon Hill Chicken Sandwich - it was good! I hadn't tried this yet, and I am glad I did. It's got the dry rub bbq chicken breast w/Swiss cheese on a flavored roll (I took it off and didn't eat the roll) with slaw and baked beans. I'd get it again! Julie had the Pot Roast, as did the 3 people who also joined us for this meal, and everyone liked it! Dave had the Benedict Arnold, which is a corned beef & swiss with slaw - he's had this before, as have I, and we both like it.
Jiko (AKL)(Dinner) - Next to the Ca Grill, this is probably my other favorite WDW rstaurant. I love the food, the atmosphere, and usually, the service too!
I was surprised when we got there, and saw that it was really crowded! We've eaten at Jiko a number of times, as has Debbie, and none of us have ever seen it like that. I'd said that to Julie, about various things .. like the crowd at the Grill, and now Jiko, among other things - she probably thinks I am making it all up! LOL since things weren't turning out the way I said they'd be!
Only one thing I wish would've been different, and that is our waiter. Ron, who is really wonderful!, wasn't working that evening, and .. I don't remember his name, but our waiter was just 'so so'. Granted, he was somewhat busy, but still .. I just think he could've paid more attention, that's all. It certainly didn't ruin the dinner though!
I started with a Flatbread - Kalamata Olive and Bacon - they will make them special if you just ask! And this is such a good combination too! Debbie had the Smoked Bacon and Onion flatbread .. minus the onion. Julie had the Cinnamon Spiced Beef roll, which *is* yummy also, and Dave got the Cucumber, Red Onion and Tomato Salad. We had some nice red wine with dinner .. heck if I remember what it was though! LOL
For our entrees, amazingly, we all had the same thing - the Oak Grilled Beef Tenderloin!! LOL That *very* rarely happens with Dave & I, but I was just in the mood for a good steak, and that heavenly macaroni & cheese of theirs! I think this is the first time I've ever ordered this meal for myself (as opposed to tasting off plates! LOL) and I was glad I did .. as was everyone else! And believe it or not, we actually had room for dessert too! Debbie and I knew months ago that *we* wanted the Pistachio Creme Brulee - simply the best!! Dave passed on dessert, while Julie tried the Walt's Gala Apple Crumble, and she was happy with it too!
Boma (AKL)(breakfast) - The more I have breakfast here, the more I like it! For one thing, it never seems to be *too* crowded at that time, and I also love the variety of 'different' foods in the morning, too. The listing of what's offered is up to date on Deb Wills site, so I won't repeat it here again. I do have to say that I personally don't think that pressed pot of coffee is worth the extra cost - imho, it's not strong enough. Get a triple espresso in a park if you want really strong coffee! LOL
Mama Melrose (MGM)(lunch) - Much to my (and Dave's) displeasure, when we got to Mama's and were looking at the menu, I discovered that they've taken our favorite off - the Parmesan Crusted Veal Scallopine!!
We absolutely loved this dish! First they moved it from dinner to lunch, and now, it's nowhere at all! LOL When I asked the server, she said it had recently been removed, as had some other items, and she wasn't sure if/when they're coming back. Oh well ... it's still a good restaurant, but I'll miss that item!
For starters (we were hungry!!), Debbie and I had the Asiago Crostini, which was GOOD!! Cheeses, melted with a tomato-basil sauce and crunchy little crostini to dip with. Dave had ... the Caeser salad I think, and Julie had a 4 Cheese flatbread. They liked their choices as we did. Oh, and I tried their Bellini one more time .. nope, still don't like it there! LOL But, I found out why this time - it's a mix! Bellinis are *supposed* to be made with white peach puree and Prosecco (an Italian sparkling white wine). OK, so I can't expect the 'real thing' everywhere ... but this was icky! LOL It also had raspberry in it, and while I love raspberries, they just don't "go" in this drink.
Since my Veal was off the menu, I got the Crispy Calamari appetizer as my entree. I've tasted this before and it's quite good - the breading is light, it isn't greasy, and the calamari is done right, not too chewy. Comes with a spicy tomato dip that's tasty too. Dave had an Italian sandwich, but I don't recall the name of it, and it's not on the menu currently posted. In any case, he thought it was alright, but it didn't knock his socks off. Debbie had her Orecchiette Pasta dish, with the chicken, sauce and bacon and she liked that a lot! And Julie had a Chicken Parmesan I think it was?? type sandwich, that I think she enjoyed. No one was up for dessert, as we were all full! LOL We had a terrific server, and that always makes a meal more pleasant!
Wolfgang Pucks (Downtown Disney)(Dinner) - We had no real plan for dinner our last night there, and at the spur of the moment, after a LOT of walking that day, decided to just go to Puck's - it was the closest place at the moment, and we could not walk even one more block, our feet were that tired! However, we DID pass by Fulton's which was closer to DD where we'd been -does that tell ya how much I hate that place??? LOL
I sort of wanted to eat upstairs at Puck's, but it turned out that it was closed for a private party for the Cirque performers. So we sat in the bar. We observed some interesting sights, let me tell you! LOL Assorted women arguing with the waiter over the bill/tip .. *someone* wearing her napkin on her head at one point <eg> .. the Cirque performers filing out of the upstairs restaurant later - you think they look odd in their costumes in the show? Ought to see them in their 'street clothes'!!! LOL!!!!
We were starving, so we ordered up - I had the BLTA pizza, which had applewood bacon, cheeses, tomatoes on it. Loved that!! I normally get the BBQ chicken pizza, but wanted something different. Dave had a Caeser salad with grilled shrimp, which he said was pretty good; Debbie had the Grilled Eggplant stack, which she said was excellent, and I don't think Julie had an app. this time. In between, we had some tasty beverages, as the waiter kept calling them! LOL, like a Lemon Drop Martini for me .. a Mai Tai for Julie, Crown for Dave, and a Strawberry Dacquiri for Debbie. I'd wanted the Pad Thai Chicken for dinner, but they were out, so I had the Chicken Satay instead - good choice! The sauce was perfectly seasoned, just enough peanutty taste, and the cucumber salad was nice also. Julie had a big burger and fries that looked good, Dave had a burger also, and Debbie had the Fettucine Wolf-fredo. There was a REAL nice looking dessert menu, but we were getting more beat by the minute! LOL so we passed.
Rose & Crown (Epcot/England)(lunch) - After the girlies left ::sniff again::: Dave and I walked around Epcot a bit more and then decided to have a sit down lunch before we left. Since it's been a while since we've eaten at Rose & Crown, we decided to go there. It was hot that afternoon!, so we sat inside. At first, we were seated, then waited, and waited, and waited! We finally got up to leave, without anyone having done so much as even look our way! I mean, I know I am not at my best when it's hot and humid out, but come on! LOL As we were going, the hosts & hostesses saw us, and I told them what was going on... we were immediately seated in another section, and the service was great after that.
Neither of us had an appetizer - we were hungry, but not wanting TOO much to eat. Dave got the Beefeater, which is sliced roast, gravy, on an English muffin, minus the cheese, and I had the Cottage Pie. Both were VERY good. We've eaten here several times, and had good food in each instance. Plus, it's a nice cool atmosphere inside in the summer, and warm and cozy in the winter!
That wraps up my dining report, except for my "Eat to the Beat" review, which I'll get to soon!
