... as we were on the boat, headed towards Ft Wilderness, the skies were darkening again. I happened to look over into the water, and thought I saw something jumping! I leaned up & asked the driver if he had seen it, or knew what it was .. well, it turns out that there are otters - 4 of them - who live in Bay Lake!
I never knew that!! They come out about the same time every day (I think it was around 4:30 or so)!! Cool!!
We got off and walked through the Trading Post, killing a few minutes before having to get on line for the show. There was only one guy waiting at Pioneer Hall when we got over there, so I let Evan & Alec walk right across the road to the little carts and browse for a few minutes, where they both bought "mood rings"! LOL remember those?? They were around when I was a kid! and the boys were just fascinated with them! LOL
The doors soon opened, and we were the second ones in. Now Evan still had on his birthday button, and .. maybe the guy at the door saw it, maybe not. I do know that originally, we were supposed to be at table 54, but then another guy said "Wait!" .. and the next thing I know, we're being lead up .. RIGHT to the first row, table 25, by the piano! Yes!! LOL Evan was tickled pink about this!! and admittedly, so was I!
He was also hamming it up during the part of the show where they ask if anyone's got a birthday today, and the red haired gal from the show came over to him! More photo op's here! LOL There was also a lady right next to us, that we had been talking to in line, who had her birthday that day too.
After dinner ... right when dessert was being served ... at the point where they come out into the audience and choose people to participate .. well guess who got picked to be a can can dancer? Yep .. I did! LOL I was a little reluctant at first, laughing and telling the guy "why not pick her? pointing to the birthday lady at the next table" but they said "no, we want you!" LOL so I went along.
I was taken backstage behind the curtain, given instructions, outfitted with a can can dress & a feathered head piece (lovely outfit with white tennis shoes on, and cotton candy smushed hair from the rain & poncho hood, lemme tell ya! LOL) and then proceeded to do what I was told! LOL It really WAS a lot of fun, and Evan & Alec were laughing SO hard they were crying while I was out there! LOL You get a Polaroid that they take (the camera's concealed in this little box in the front & center of the stage) and a 'certificate', proclaiming you an official Pioneer Hall player.
The weather wasn't very nice .. drizzling a bit ... when we came out, and Evan just wanted to go back to the room, so that was fine for everyone. We took the boat for the return to the Contemporary, then walked over to the AKL bus stop from there. We waited about 10-15 min for the bus to arrive, and another 15 min or so later, we were back at the hotel.
Upon entering our room, Evan saw the cake that I'd asked for, and they'd set the table in the dining room with a nice tablecloth, plates, cake in the center with candles on it and streamers spread around, and a card signed by Mickey & Minnie, and a message on the phone, wishing him a happy birthday from the Kilimanjaro Club staff. I'd originally asked for balloons too, but was told they're not permitted at AKL because of the potential harm to the animals. I understood that .. then I got to wondering .. what if you buy your child a balloon at the park that day and then return to the hotel with it??? Just wondering what would happen .... There are also no straws anywhere at the hotel, and the stirrers for coffee and mixed drinks are wooden, not plastic.
I had a message on my phone from a friend who was there at WDW, and I thought that maybe she'd get the message I left for her, so we walked the boys down to the arcade, gave them some money to play and left strict instructions NOT to leave until I came to get them (and they didn't .. they're very responsible that way) and headed to the Victoria Falls lounge for a bit. Some man & woman were in there, signing autographs .. I have NO clue who they were though! LOL We only stayed a short while, since it was REALLY crowded, and soon went to gather up the kids and head to sleep.
... our Sunrise Safari day coming up next!
