I was just looking at ticket for us for Happy Feet and saw it is on IMAX screen as well as regular screen. For the regular screen it would be $21.25 for the 3 of us, IMAX $36.00, so is it THAT much of a difference? popcorn::

Thanks

If it's a true IMAX screen, I'd say so. Ours is only slightly bigger than a regular screen, but I still pay extra for it - I love the IMAX!

The IMAX is really cool! Does the one you are looking at have 3-D? I would do it at least once.

SOOOOO worth it! Well, maybe not for Happy Feet (but that's another topic!) But the sound with an IMAX movie is amazing as is the picture. Also, at our IMAX theater you aren't subjected to half an hour of advertising before the movie.

Well, for what it's worth, I prefer not to see regular movies on an IMAX screen. I think some films are made specifically for IMAX and what a great experience that is. But with regular films, you just get a really, really, really big picture.

We saw the most recent Harry Potter on an IMAX screen and I was exhausted by the time it was over. To see everything, you need to look up, down, left, right, by physically moving your head. It's THAT big. Like, Harry was doing something on the right side of the screen, but here comes Ron, waaaaay over there on the left. It was HARD.

The IMAX films are big on scenery and serve to really suck you into the experience - like, really put you in a place. Regular films just give you 6-story characters!

That's just IMO, and something to think about. Enjoy the movie.

I saw Spider-Man II on regular screen and on IMAX. It may be because of the theatre (you're not very far away from the screen), but I'm convinced that the image was way too big, and I wouldn't have been able to follow the picture if I hadn't seen it on regular screen first. Just my opinion, of course.

We go see movies on the IMAX quite a bit (usually because it's cheaper for us $12 for the whole family) we went and saw Open Season 3-D, it was a lot of fun! So was Robots! Just sit up towards the back and you'll be fine! :thumbsup2

IMAX tix are $43.50, theatre $21.50. I don't mind the price (AND the drive) if it's "different" (eg, not just a bigger screen). I do think I read HF was designed for IMAX, though. Guess I'll go back and check it out!

almacdonald, what's wrong with "Happy Feet"? Remember, I've got a 3 yr old with me - my choices are kind of limited!

I received a call from Hollywood Video, wishing me a "Happy Birthday" and telling me I have a free rental (good today only). That was kind of unexpected, but interesting. Birthday wishes are always good - and it means I'm not dead yet, just older!! Maybe I'll cheat and make it a "movie night" at home, and catch the movie on a weekday or Sun matinee instead.

Thanks for all the feedback - I think I'm gonna try this at IMAX when we go!

Imax is pretty cool. Like you are in the movie.

DS and I went to see The Polar Express and it was pretty darn good.

But you're also talking to someone who pays the extra $5.00 per person to sit in the recliner leather seats in the "regular" movie theatre, so maybe I'm not the best person to ask for an opinion.

If my movie theatre had that, I'd also pay the $5 and go more often, too!

We saw "Happy Feet" on IMAX last eve. We thought it was GREAT! There are many sweeping scenes where you feel like you are running/swimming/dancing with the penguins. The sound was also very good - and there is a lot of music throughout the movie. We'd like to get the soundtrak.

Anyone else seen it lately?

we have seen a couple of movies at the IMAX that it was well worth the extra money. For a 3 year old, I think I would save the extra money to buy some extra popcorn to keep him amused!

At our IMAX they FILL the theater so you are sitting right next to people on both sides and its not easy to leave if you need to.

I agree. I hardly ever go the IMAX (even though there is one at our regular theatre) but the time worked out with what we needed for Happy Feet. It was fantastic! I really enjoyed the part with the Northern Lights. It felt like you were really there--but warmer. :teeth:

I don't think the effects would be as exciting in a regular theatre for that particular movie.
