I'm trying to convince myself to stay in a moderate instead of deluxe

Honestly its a personal choice, and if it were be I would NOT make the switch to CBR. If it was POR/POFQ or CSR I say go for it. But CBR is my least favorite moderate resort.

Ditto. And I'm not sure why you would book a resort you know you don't like. The resort is still huge, and it is still not very close to any park. If you know what works for you, stick with it. That $200 a night is a lot, but so not worth it if you will be unhappy.

$200 per night would pay for a LOT of food and wine! It would also pay for a cab/uber ride if you don't feel like taking the bus. I second the person who suggested POFQ. It's a smaller more intimate resort.
My sister suggested uber

Have discounts come out for your dates yet? If not, it may not be as much as $200/night more.

I've always stayed in a deluxe resort when going to the parks because of ease of access to the parks, there are rooms available at The Caribbean Beach open standard view at almost $200 less a night convince me to change resorts, I've stayed at CBR before and didn't really like it as it's huge and the rooms were not so nice.
I laughed when I read this title. I always stay deluxe. I've booked a moderate on a few occasions to save money, and I always change the reservation to a deluxe. So...I'm no help to you! haha

I've stayed at more deluxe WDW resorts than mods over the years, but if I had an annual pass and were going several times per year, I'd be staying at more mods to save money. As others said, $200 per night, you can take a cab or Uber if you need to get from a park to your resort. I've done it often, and it's quick and much more comfy than a bus.

I personally love POR, it's one of my favorites, above several deluxe FWIW. Lovely grounds, nice boat ride to DS, and great food/lounge/shopping options during downtime at the resort.

As others have advised, I would look into renting DVC points. We went through David's to rent points for our upcoming trip to the Flower and Garden Festival and it was a smooth process that saved us a good chunk of money.

I should have added also that I now rent points whenever possible. It makes the deluxe stays much more affordable. I use David's. It's worth checking out.

My favorite resort is Port Orleans Riverside and even I'm not the biggest fan of CBR. Why book it if you know you're going to dislike it?

Like others have suggested, look into renting DVC points.

If you have an AP check prices again. I have an AP, I have done deluxe and mods and thought I would have to do a mod for this year since I am going for 16 days. Well when I looked up prices I am staying at wilderness lodge for just pennies more than POR, and POFQ is more because they don't have an AP rate. Wilderness lodge is $242 per night for the dates I need, POR preferred is $227 for the dates I needed. So check prices, and you may not be able to get the exact deluxe you want, but you may be able to get a deluxe for just a little more.

I agree with getting DVC points. I bought into DVC, this year I will use 80 points for 6 nights, so I only have to get 10 nights hotel, giving me 16 nights at Disney, last year I spent 200 points and spent 15 nights at Disney. Since we have to fly across country I want to take at least two weeks every time we go. It cost me over $9000 for our vacation three years ago and I said, forget it I can do this anymore. Bought into DVC, yes it cost $200 a month, but my vacation now cost about $2500 each year, plus that $200 a month, so it does not seem as bad cause some of it is spread out, in 7 years I won't have to pay that $200 but I will still have the points to use for 40 years beyond. So I feel it is a win win if you go long and if you go yearly.

Do you spend much time at the resort and, more importantly, in your room? My wife and I are by no means out from rope drop to park close, but we do spend most of our days out, using the hotel for sleeping and showering, and occasionally an evening swim if the weather permits (we frequently go in the winter, and heated pools or no, you have to get out eventually). We have been upgraded to deluxe once and it was a great experience. We would like to stay deluxe more often when we go, but every time we start to book it we talk ourselves out of it. We reason that we do not spend enough time in the room to really justify it, whereas we are foodies so we have decided to start paying for deluxe dining on our future trips since we typically order everything that's included in that anyway. If we spent more time hanging out in the room we might feel differently, but that's my take on it. From what little I've gleaned it doesn't sound like you are drawn to the rooms themselves so much as the proximity, and as others have said, $200 a day can pay for a lot of cabs/uber rides.

We love the mod's we have stayed Deluxe on several occasion, and the Poly is our favorite, but with cost we only splurge to stay there for something like anniversary or maybe Valentines day.

We have stay at all POFQ, POR, CBR, CSR - POFQ might be a good match for you as its the smallest of the mod's, and you can walk over to POR so you get 2 food courts, pools and such. the boat to Disney Springs in another nice option in the evening.

AoA while considered a Value does have corridors with the family suite buildings, and I have stayed here as well. The theming is super cute, and the room is nice, and with 2 bathroom you can't go wrong. If an interior corridor is important.

The thing is you have to be opened minded, if you go with the I am going to hate it state of mind... you will hate it... So if you can't get past that...you might as well stay deluxe.

You mentioned that you have stayed at CBR before, but didn't enjoy it. Can I ask when that was? All of the rooms were refurbed a few years ago and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality.
