I tried Atkins about a year ago and got really sick from it but I think I was going at it the wrong way and not eating enough. I am so totally inspired by everyones great sucesses with it that I want to try it again. Wish me luck!!! Im starting today. Ive already lost 17.5 pounds....well 15 now since we went to Disney this weekend.....doing my own thing but its been VERY slow going. Im hoping Atkins will stoke the fat burning fires.

I am right behind you Lvs...I am starting (again) today too...

I accept Alex's challenge. He is right about everything he said.

I have never had a "support" group before...I have been "doing my own thing" for a while...and I have been maintaing...I just need to lose a few more lbs...

Us FLA girls need to stick together!!! lol...

Karen, I'm so glad you have decided to try Atkins.

Don't give up if you feel really yucky for a few days, withdrawal is an ugly thing ;)

Karen,
I forgot to mention that I also tend to get constipated with this woe. It has helped my IBS -- since my IBS symptoms were causing me to run to the bathroom QUICKLY! But, even I have to use metamucil sometimes to keep 'regular'. Sorry for the graffic subject --- but I know we've talked about this in PM's before and I wanted to be sure to remind you of this. I'm anxious to see if you start to feel better after a week or so!
:D

Yay Karen!! Don't give up!! I was sick the 4th day into it, really yucky sick, but the next day, I was renewed and had energy! LOL Even I was surprised!!

:):)

All the atkins posts have inspired me as well and i decided this morning i would read up on it and start today as well!! Good luck to the both of us!!

This will be the first time i have ever tried it!Like you i have been doing my own "thing" and it is taking forver so i figured i would try this.

Oh,and i`m ordering my walk away the pounds dvd this week too! woohoooooo

Well, Amanda, good for you. Do you have the book? Would you like me to email you the rules for induction? I have them saved to word :)

When I tried Atkins...I felt terrible...I actually felt like I was dying those first couple days. I just decided to cut carbs on my own. I have lost about 55 lbs since last May....been just about a year now....and I think it was in January that I hit the 55lb loss.

I have no problem following the low-carb diet...and I use to be a total noodles/bread person. Now, I may have one slice of bread a week...if even that.

Stick with it...and it will get much easier. I rarely even think about it anymore.

Thanks for the offer! I copied down the rules from the atkins website, read a ton of the info on the website as well, picked out some recipes and made my shopping list!

I resisted scalloped potatos this evening and mountain dew! Which is a major acomplishment for me!lol

Hi Lisa  It's great to see you here. What a good example you are for us.

Okay, Amanda, you sound like you are motivated and already doing great. Good job. Can't wait for your first weigh in, the first week of Atkins can be very exciting :)

Well I am an Atkins failure yet again. There is just no way I can stick to this diet. I have had the most wicked stomach cramps and flare up of my IBS imaginable. I guess my body just cant handle it. Im not giving up though Im going to go back to eating the way I was. I was losing just not as much nor as fast as I wanted to.

{{{{HUGS}}}} I know you really wanted this to workd for you. But with your IBS symptoms being the opposite of mine I can imagine how it would not work. You WILL do it -- just in your own way!
:D

{{{hugs}}} Karen! You'll do it though.
Just hang in there. slow and steady is better than nothing ;)

(I miss you ;) )

Luvs---I know where you are coming from with the IBS...I get it sooo bad sometimes...that I take a muscel relaxer just to get through the day (levinsin).

Anyway..I haven't had a flair up, but when I feel the "tightness" coming I take something with calcium in it....(like tums..I took maalox the other night and it seem to settle me down) it dosen't always work, but you might want to try it.

I have been lucky with Atkins, it has not caused me to flair more than normal. Actually when I eat low fat...I feel worse, I think its from all of the fruit.

Hang in there....we can help find something that will work for ya...you are NOT a Failure!!!!

Tracy

{{{hugs}}}, Karen.
Sorry Atkins didn't work for you. :( I know you'll still do it, though. You've done great so far! :)

There are a 1000 diets out there... atkins, ww, the zone etc etc....
They all work for different people. DON'T look at this as a failure, it isn't. You tried something that wasn't right for you.
Just think about why it didn't work (like I wouldn't go from atkins to sugarbusters) and move on to something else. The WW people seem to be doing pretty good and that is a more balanced diet that your system might handle better.
As Dr. George Sheehan used to say "everyone is an experiment of one".

Now stop that, Karen! You aren't a failure. I'm not going to allow you to talk that way about yourself. No one talks that way about my friends.

Alex is right. This wasn't a failure it was an experiment with undesirable results. If you changed laundry detergents and didn't like the results and went back to your old detergent, would you feel like a failure? I don't think so. Well, this is the exact same thing.

You have been successful with a different way of eating and I think it's a very positive thing for you to go back to that plan. Atkins is not right for everyone. We are all individuals with different needs. You have to do what is right for you not what's right for me, or Kelsie or anyone else.

Now stand up straight and put a smile on that pretty face of yours. You are not a failure! You are a WISHer and all WISHers may be losers but not one WISHer is a failure.

{{{HUGS}}} my friend. Onward and downward!
