I'm too old fashioned for this modern life

There is to a certain degree under section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 which states -

any writing, sign or other visible representation which was threatening, abusive or insulting within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.

This can be committed in any public place.

Claire ;)

Youre right, otherwise known as the public obscenity law
it was this that was used to ban the cradle of filth shirts printed with a semi nude nun and the slogan 'jesus is a .....'
quite a few people were arrested for wearing the shirt.

i know what you mean, some words should be banned. Anyone who uses that word these days should be ashamed :sad2:

theres a new mouthwash advert that uses that word (well ive assumed the word) its got an EX at the end, i wonder if anyones complained about it.

no advert is allowed language that strong on terrestrial tv. (if its the word i think youre on about, begins with c)

and i would hate for words to be banned, deemed not polite for society but, banning words is a slippery slope.

I don't know what the word is either but I am guessing that if some of it is starred out then that gives a clue that it is offensive :confused3

Personally, I don't have a problem with the word and don't really get why it's more offensive than other swear words, but obviously you just don't go around wearing stuff like that. :sad2: Kids can read that and that's just not right. :headache:

Just to be clear - nothing on the t-shirt was starred out - the word was there in all its ugliness.

And I'm not sure why I find it more offensive than other swear words - I just do. Some words are considered racist, not because the word has any particular meaning, but because of the connotations behind it. This is perhaps why I hate 'that word' so much.

not sure how many words there were on the end of the sentence of the one you saw, but it appears (looking at google) to be a fairly common theme for a t shirt, with various different versions of the text and language chosen (often more than one nasty word at the end).

Not sure why people choose to wear things like that though

well, after finding out, what the word is,i'm happy to be,in the old fashioned club:thumbsup2
there are 2 words, which i absolutely detest & that is one of them!
why someone, would want it on a t shirt,is beyond me:confused3.i just think,it says alot about, the person wearing it!
tracy

im only 21 and would be disgusted by that i dont think you are old fashioned i just think its terrible

Im with you guys on this, theres a time and a place and on a t-shirt in public is neither.

Im quite 'old fashioned' when it comes to offensive langauge. I would never swear infront of my parents or my grandparents first of all, I think thats because they have never sworn infront of me.

I also hate people swearing in public places like restuarants. It annoys me sometimes how you can be enjoying a meal in peice and theres some idiot using every word under the sun:confused3

Il hold my hand up, I am no angel when it comes to a swear word, but these are only used either a) when im on the football pitch or b) when ive had a few beers and im with the lads, but I never swear infront of a female, i think the problem today is that some parents dont have any manners themselves and dont know how to teach there children any!

I'm also no angel when it comes to language, but only inside my own home and when there are no children in earshot. I think there's a big difference between what you choose to do and say in private and in public.

A few months ago there was a hot air balloon launch at the local primary school so I went down to watch (it was highly entertaining if rather worrying for the people who won the trip flying in it as the organisers seemed like they'd have trouble organising a party in a brewery). There was a dad stood in the playground with his very young daughter wearing a t-shirt that said "have you seen my tackle?" Of course there's nothing actually offensive in those words, it's just innuendo, but it still seemed odd to me that anyone would choose to wear something suggestive in a playground where there were dozens of young children?
