I'm the only Platinum, so can't use Platinum priveleges

Because the poster believes his is an exception to the rule and his situation should be handled differently than everyone else who has to abide by the rules of the program

With all due respect, how do you know what I believe?

I do not believe mine is an exception to the rule. I believe the rule applies to my situation.

I simply believe the rule should be changed. If you disagree, that's fine. We will agree to disagree.

They used to have a tobacco shop at Disneyland. Disney doesn't always get it right.

As you said you feel the rule, an objective fair rule of the program, should be changed to fit your situation.

We do disagree. The program is what it is and don't know why this aspect surprised you since you already complained about it in a previous post.

I think it is reasonable for the OP to use the dis to garner support for their POV and opinion on the policy in just the same way as many others use it for their own venting space and to campaign for changes.
Either they will be supported and others with similar opinions will join their cause, or it will die out and drift down on the pages and be forgotten if their view isn't supported.

I am surprised that the OP being platinum wasn't aware before that they could not share their single status across the two rooms however. Unfortunate, but write, email, call if you feel strongly about this ppl!

...it's two separate rooms, and only one member is the status what are we suppose to feel strongly about?

In the previous post, I was referring to two separate trips:

The first trip included an adjoining cabin that my son's girlfriend was inhabiting. In keeping with the times, I could have had her stay in our cabin, but I thought it would be uncomfortable for all concerned.

The second trip includes only my wife and my two children.

I am not really surprised, I just think it is a bad policy.

Apparently, some of the commenters on this site have a love for rules that transcends the sanctity of a 31+ year marriage. If that applies to you, wear it with pride.

I tried to go online and book activities today, and can't for all of my family (those staying in adjoining room) until the gold window opens.

I am not really surprised, I just think it is a bad policy.

@jane01jp, I've only quoted the parts of your posts that I'm referring to.
I'm so very sorry if I've misread your original post, but it appeared to me, at least, that you thought your platinum privileges would apply to all that were on your sailing regardless of which cabin they were berthed in. Hence my I'm surprised comment.

I've never understood this complaint. we booked our 2014 cruise to include our 2 grown children and their families. 3 cabins. it was their first cruise so we booked what we wanted when their window opened. we got everything we wanted, including palo (their choice not mine) with no problems. I would never think to say i'm platinum so we should all book together. it just never crossed my mind. it makes me shake my head that this is something people worry about.
it is what it is, don't let this ruin your vacation.

But this poster vented his POV in a post, it was discussed with supporters and detractors. Faded away and drifted down the pages. But this poster obviously thinks that his voice wasn't heard loud enough or supported strongly enough so he had to create a new thread and post with exactly the same complaint.

What does you being married for 31 years have anything to do with the conversation? Good for you but the "sanctity of marriage" has nothing to do with the rules of a frequent cruiser program! You want to rehash this topic, you should do it when you have new information to bring to support your POV. Come back in 15 days when the Gold window opens and let us know what you missed out on by not being able to book excursions for your family at the platinum booking window. Very few things move that quickly.

First of all, unless I'm banned, I will come back whenever I want.

I have noticed that the most ardent defenders of Disney and its policies are those who have the most posts.

These are "Disney Conservatives" - the defenders of the Disney status quo.

I wonder, are the "Disney Conservatives" similarly compliant with other societal institutions when they encounter something that they would like to see changed?

The point is, that anyone who has a complaint can air it here. I know that booking shore excursions with my wife and our two children pales in comparison to other life and death struggles discussed on this site, such as bringing alcohol on board, or cheese and cracker plates and the like, but it is important to me.

If it's not important to you, I can't understand why you are commenting.

I don't think the people complaining about the removal of certain previous perks they had grown to love are the same ones complaining about not receiving perks to which they (or their friends and family in adjoining staterooms) were never entitled anyway. :duck:

you are correct, you can come back whenever you want but I think what a lot of people are saying is that you already posted this issue and received 7 pages of replies. why does this need to come back to the fore front in the form of a new thread? all you needed to do was add a comment to your old thread to make it active again. go ahead and air your complaints, no one is going to be annoyed unless you make them annoyed by doing what you did, posting the same thing more than once.
if your really looking for change then send off a letter of disappointment to DCL head office. the things you mention as being changed such as the AHOD cheese plate didn't come back because people posted on the DIS, they got changed because people responded to the company directly.
good luck and have a great cruise.

I'm not saying you can't air your complaint over and over again as many times as you want, just as I can comment on it as I like. What I was suggesting is that if you want to open up for "discussion" again, give us new material to discuss. If you just wanted to vent again because now you got to the point where your booking window opened, add it to your prior post.

By starting a new thread and making it sound like this is a new issue looks like you were just not happy with the responses you got the first time and were fishing for others that may now support you.

I am certainly not a "Disney Conservative" nor do I ardently defend all of Disney's actions. However, when you are speaking about "free" perks, Disney is allowed to set the rules wherever they want to. If you don't like it, you can open it up to discussion as you did before. But all I've seen on that thread and this is that you don't like that the rules apply to you -- you are fine if they apply to others "in large groups". You can post this a thousand times here but change isn't going to come because it was discussed on the Dis boards -- what is your call to action for your supporters?

Personally, I think the perks for a Platinum cruiser are ridiculous. I've posted that opinion on this forum before but I've also let my thoughts be known to individuals that may be able to actually do something about it. It is not accepting the status quo but understanding that the rules apply and I accept that they are going to apply to me each and every time I make a cruise reservation.

And as for calling out people with a lot of posts -- all that means is that they are active in this community. By posting on this forum aren't you asking for discussion by that community??

Sorry, I did not recollect the OP's previous thread about this, even though I commented on it! :guilty:

I've been married for 41 years so I have ten up on you but I do believe that DCL set the rules for a reason. Most of my family is not Platinum as we are but I do not have any issues waiting to book when their window opens.

Did the split room this last cruise. Probably would have done it previous cruise but didn't realize my husband had made platinum. For us it was about getting on to the ship early. Didn't work because - won't go into it...since it was a short day only concern was Palo brunch and didn't have a problem with that. My daughter in law got a nicer bag then she would have because she got one for platinum folks but other then that it wasn't a big deal. My other daughter is gold - when we sailed with her last november we were able to add her to our reservations that we needed to. We didn't dwell on who was platinum or not...it worked out fine. My kids know that they may be platinum some day but they will have to ante up for that.

Well this "we" does not agree with your "we".

Maybe you just think everything is dandy and is fine. Maybe you just like the status quo. Maybe "you" need to see that someone is not happy with the policy and understand why they are upset.

Instead you would rather tell the OP many times. It's a policy / rule and you can't do anything about it. So why even mention it?

Why not give suggestions or options instead?

By that same logic, the womens' suffrage movement would have never gotten off of the ground. After all, women hadn't had, and then lost the right to vote. They had never had it in the first place.
