I'm the only Platinum, so can't use Platinum priveleges

lol - I know! I fail to see how the women's suffrage movement and right to vote (a citizen's right) is even remotely related to how DCL decides to distribute Castaway Club perks, which they choose to reward us with and is a "gift," not a "right." :joker:

Nothing can be both a reward and a gift. A gift is something given freely, without cost or obligation to the recipient.

A reward is earned. In the case of Castaway Club perks, the rewards are similar to other frequent customer reward programs - designed to provide a small incentive to come back.

With the addition of 2 new ships to the fleet, I would expect reward levels to increase in the next few years.

The whole point to my last post, was that there is no difference between a desired new reward and a desired reward which was once, but is no longer, offered.

This is an arbitrary distinction.

I keyed in the word 'reward' hit the send button and this is the first thing that came up....

recompense · prize · award · honor · decoration · bonus ·
premium · bounty · present · gift · payment · payoff · perk · perquisite
VERB
  1. make a gift of something to (someone) in recognition of their services, efforts, or achievements:

I think it can be both a reward and a gift. a reward is not always a prize, it can be a gift as well. you are often rewarded with a gift.

anyways, I would not hold my breath on reward levels increasing but only time will tell on that. I hope your right but nothing dcl has done gives any kind of indication this will happen. lets keep our fingers crossed.

Like my mother used to say...."People are starving in Africa, stop complaining it's spaghetti again and eat your dinner." :) I guess for some perspective it's thrilling to go on a cruise...and to be platinum means you've gone on many cruises...and I do understand it's hard when you feel you aren't getting something you should have but at the same time...maybe centering on gratitude for what you have and adjusting to the fact that what you want to happen isn't going to would make you happier both in life and on this vacation.

Try the same internet lookup on the word "gift." You will not see "reward" anywhere in the definition.

This is an important distinction.

You make an excellent point.

However, there has been lots of whining on this board regarding alcohol and cheese.

So, I naturally inferred that this was a place to air petty grievances.

DW and I are Gold CC members while our son is Silver. When we sailed over Christmas 2014 never did I believe that he should get the same perks as my wife and I when we signed up for excursions and upscale dining reservations. As others have asked, how many additional people is to many when it comes to giving this perk out? I would be upset being a Gold CC member if simply because everyone is sailing together; that all those less than Gold bump us from our choices, simply because of the perk of being with someone in the party that is Gold or Platinum.

Immediate family should be included.

Define immediate family. Just parents and children? Grandparents? Siblings? Aunts and uncles and cousins? Son's fiancée? Daughter's boyfriend? Godparents? Best friends? All these folks if traveling together would like to book their excursions together. Where could they put it that the complaints would stop?

and what difference does the sanctity of a 31+ year marriage make as far as this rule goes? obviously the OP believes his wife should be automatically granted platinum status because he is platinum, although she is not. Would that apply to any married couple? To a parent and child (minor child, or child of any age)? To an unmarried cohabiting couple? How would Disney make that decision and stick to it?

I'm guessing since one of his cruises appears to have included his son's girlfriend in her own cabin, the OP basically believes DCL should extend platinum perks to anybody traveling with him. Which is the reason DCL limits the platinum perks per stateroom in the first place. So I don't think he would get anywhere going to DCL and asking them to extend to "immediate family," whatever that means. He might have better luck asking them to allow it over one additional stateroom. But then he might be back someday when he has grandkids, stating that he thinks it should be applied to four staterooms. and we are right back to why DCL limits application of the platinum perks in the first place.

As much as it can be a pain, I understand why Disney does it, there are so many people that would call their parents and sisters and brothers and cousins all immediate family as well. I am 3 cruises ahead of my husband, because my parents took me on cruises with Disney when I was younger. We will just continue to book us all into 1 room until my husband gets to platinum as well and then we will start getting 2 rooms by putting his reservation on one room :)

like both of those too.

Well, THAT is true! :) There is lots of whining about the wine and cheese too. I wasn't trying to demean your point of view. Sometimes a reminder to be thankful for what we have is helpful, and sometimes it is not---I was trying for the former.
