I'm stupid to codes!?

This may seem like a ridiculous question but what are these codes everyone is talking about? When do they come out and how do I get one? A few years ago we got a postcard for discounted room rates but we were not able to take advantage of it at the time. I have requested vacation planning videos under two different emails, and also booked vacations under those emails. Do I just keep watching or is there a trick? Really need a discount!
