It is! I'm kinda thinking of showing her one of my B&W movies restored in color. Asking her how she likes it then show it to her on another occasion in B&W just to get her upset. And the movie I'm talking about is It's A Wonderful Life, that movie just never gets old for me no matter how everyone in the world (aside from my father) gets annoyed with me watching it so much.
Thanks! You seem to have similar tastes in movies to me so I may ask when I get through the endless list of movies I have to-be watched (Got SOOO many for Christmas). They are seriously dominating my life right now. My friends now want me to make a movie blog too!
It really is a shame. If only she had gotten all those Oscar nods she deserved. I'm sure she'd be almost as successful as Meryl Streep. And I totally agree about the situation between her and Woody. They were so great together and really played off each other well. I know people like him and Diane Keaton together generally, but she's in a whole other league. Woody and Mia were at the same level so it worked. But I'll have to see more of Diane and Woody so hopefully I'll come across Annie Hall one of these days (Sleeper was actually on TCM or some other channel a few days ago. Should've recorded it, darn!)
Exactly. I can say there is no other movie like it, but I think that may have been its downfall. I think the cinematography and music is almost overwhelming to the story-line since it's so well-done you can get all wrapped-up in fantastic Gershwin compositions and then some of the best scenery all in mellow tones that you don't notice what's going on. I mean, the most used cover for the movie with Diane and Woody on the bench looking at the Brooklyn Bridge, I barely even remember what happened there. There was way too much ambition and I think it didn't make the movie as good as it should've been. And yeah, the relationship between Woody and Mariel didn't work or feel right at all. I could see what they were getting at, but I felt Woody carried a brunt of the chemistry there because it felt awkward from her end since the maturity that I believe that was supposed to be there got lost in the naivety. I don't think they picked the best actress for a young character even though she did get the supporting actress Oscar nod.
I'm going to watch Reservoir Dogs and possibly Jackie Brown (I got a Quentin Tarantino DVD set from my aunt. PULP FICTION <3) then I'm seeing Les Miserables tonight!!!! But I think I'll go find sometime tomorrow since I'm in need of a good Woody film now![]()
Hah! Yeah, definitley don't give up on her with the black and white thing. It's just crazy and I'm sure she'll come to her senses. It's A Wonderful Life is certainly one of the best!
I have an endless to-watch list as well! I'll never get through it. Maybe if they just stopped releasing movies for a whole year I could at least put a dent in it. Hmmm. You should make a movie blog, it's nice to have a place to put all your movie obsession stuff. It's like clearing out your brain and organizing your interests or something. I was just typing up a post about why Pitch Perfect is really not that great of a movie b/c I don't get why people are so into it... it's good to have an outlet for that stuff.
I actually like Diane more than Mia, I was a huge fan of hers before I even got into Woody Allen movies, but I understand where you're coming from cause Mia's amazing. Once you see Annie Hall I'm sure you'll have a much greater appreciation for Diane. She is absolute perfection in that movie, it's like a bit of magic honestly. Woody was able to capture her in that performance at the exact right time in the exact right way. She's great in everything, but Diane Keaton in Annie Hall is seriously just proof that movie magic exists. And them together as a couple in that movie just works so unbelievably perfectly. It's so seamless and effortless, unlike Manhattan.
Another good one you have to watch by Woody is Stardust Memories. It's extremely underrated, but I find big film buffs like myself get it and love it. The use of music in that film is perfect too, especially Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller. Ahh it's perfection.
Your aunt is awesome for getting you that box set! Have you seen the Kill Bill movies? I really just think of it as one movie (since that's how Tarantino sees them). Anyway, Kill Bill 1 & 2 is my favorite Tarantino film besides Pulp Fiction. So if you haven't seen them, you should!
