I think people feel if they say it enough that it will repair whatever damage they have done. I pulled into 7-11 to get a cup of coffee and this woman backs out and side swipes my car. She gets out and tells me she is sorry about 10 times, even after I had said "Its okay" more than once

No - I really think the poor woman was stunned, shocked and very upset and contrite that she had hit your car! And probably embarrassed to boot!

I know that I will stammer over and over how sorry I am when I've done something stupid - I'm guessing she felt the same way.

I think you're just lucky that someone in New Jersey said they were sorry after hitting your car.

I have to agree with Pam on this one. When I am nervous or upset I tend to babble on and on. I am sure she felt bad and didn't know what to do or say. I hope the car isn't damaged too bad.

Antnee....I'll take "I'm sorry" over what happened to me this summer down LBI. My new (less than one week old, still had dealer plates on it) car was hit when parked on the street in Harvey Cedars. No note. Nothing.

For those of you wondering, Harvey Cedars residents have $$$. Rentals are high.

It wasn't a nice thing for anyone to do.

I don't think she thought she could fix it by saying she was sorry 10 times, she probably felt horrible and just couldn't stop telling you how sorry she was. Be happy that she gave a crap, and was really apologetic.

Same thing happened to me Gina, in February. I had my new trailblazer 4 days and someone hit it at the mall. No note, no nothing.

Antnee--A few weeks ago, I did the same thing to another woman at the mall. I felt terrible, apologized many times to her. I certainly didn't think that was going to wipe out my responsibility to take care of the damage.

And to add insult to injury antnee, you will have to report this to your own insurance company.. becasue jersey is a no fault state. This will come out of your own pocket!

My son was riding a bike, and a car (not ours) hit him, and it had to go on our insurance!

No fault in NJ!

What????

Can you explain that in a bit more detail, please? I've never heard of such a thing!

Suppose someone runs a red light and crashes into your car, does the money for the damage to the car come out of your own insurance? Will your rates go up???

I know in PA, that if you are injured in a car accident, any medical bills are paid for by the injured's company. However, damage to the car is paid for by the at fault's insurance.

I hope the other insurance company pays your deductible. I was rearended in Illinois a few years ago and the other insurance company eventually reimbursed my deductible. Took about a year, though.

I'm sorry that your car was damaged and glad you weren't injured. It's still very inconvenient having to deal with auto body repairs. I do not envy you.

It's really kind of funny but when I have had an accident (they were all the others fault) I end up saying over and over again "My husband will kill me". My dh would never think of "killing" me over an accident, he was a lot more worried about me myself. It is funny what you say and do when you are in shock.

If the damage is not that bad try to take care of thing's with out going to the insurance Co. I had a girl back into my brand new Mustang GT and after I told her to just give me her number that I would get a quote for repair and let her now, she felt that we sould just go through insurance! I explained that both our premium's would go up and she finally understood! Try and do that if the damage is not extensive. The damage to my car came out to 300.00 it would have been more costly to go through insurance!
