I'm sorry, but because you did not buy from Disney...

Just thought I'd try, that's all. Sorry for upsetting you. Didn't expect to get flamed. I will keep my posts and comments to myself from now on. Have a great day!

Ps-I do think Tinkerbelle has some pretty strong pixie dust though...

I brought up, too, when trying to buy AKL direct getting the guide to throw in a couple days to round out my reservation in October at BWV, and they have avaliability; I just didn't have points until the 7 month window!

Anyway, if they want to make a sale, I say, they can do what they want... even if they had a supervisor get involvled. Doesn't have to be a DVC room. I have a hard time believing, the way things are now, that any resort is entirely full. If they were, they wouldn't be giving free dining and 40% off:scared1:.

How do you know they have availability at BWV? If you called and tried to use points and nothing was available, they don't have availability.

I'm confused on what you expect them to do even if you bought direct. There are only so many BWV rooms - and those are booked or you wouldn't need help. Do you think someone else should be kicked out? Do you think Tinkerbelle can make a new room appear with pixie dust? Do you think that buying - even direct - should pop you to the top of the wait list?

I got the impression the OP was surprised at being told she would be treated differently because she didn't buy direct. She called to ask about something she read in her paperwork and was told "no" - not because there was nothing available but because she didn't buy direct.

Not asking for a miracle, just hoping, maybe, she could be accomodated.

As I read it she was asking for a benefit specifically under the control of DVD (not DVC) that was in the paperwork she received when she toured but did not buy but NOT in the paperwork that applies to members in genral. It's no different than buying a used car a few months old and dropping by the dealership asking for a free fill up. I can understand that the OP may not have realized the specifics of the situation and have asked but to be upset at the fact that benefit was not extended to a resale buyer seems unreasonable to me.

I could not locate this or a similar statement within any documents I received when purchasing resale. However, when purchasing an add-on direct, the following statement appeared in item 9 of the Product Understanding Checklist:

"As a courtesy to first-time Members, DVD may assist you with securing your first DVC Resort reservation by using DVD inventory to secure your initial desired accomodations in exchange for your agreement to transfer to DVD the number of Vacation Points needed to secure the desired accommodations"
The operative word here is MAY. That obviously gives MS/guides latitude to do what they want--and as recently shown they do want to make a distinction between direct buy and resale.

Interesting, though, to see something to this effect apparently is in writing.
Well, it doesn't really mean much other to confuse people. As mentioned, the language gives DVC the right to do anything they want.

I think your comment was a bit harsh to the OP.

My original guide told me way back when that there is "always fluff" in the number of rooms available. I think for the reasons cited here--in case of maintenance issues and that they can use the "perk" to sell direct points where they need to. I know that I had an issue with MS and he was able to pull strings--even after I had already had DVC stays--to get me availability at a resort that was supposedly "fully booked"---just because MS says there is "no availability" doesn't mean that there isn't a villa in that resort that is unoccupied the night(s) you want. When MS says there is "no availability" that means that there are no villas available for the member who is calling.

Not saying it's fair--but I think that is how it really works.

We don't have the exact conversation and I think that the specifics and tone of that encounter are critical to truly judging whether the request and reply was reasonable and appropriate or not. All we can go by is what the OP has said and what we know otherwise. My guess is that the OP called and was told no availability and that the call deteriorated from there with the OP becoming either upset or forceful as well as quoting info to MS that was sales specific. I don't think for a second that MS just out of the blue volunteered the into about direct vs resales as a taunt, but only after pushed for a reservation and after being hit with the info quoted in the OP. At that point the only answer that MS could provide, assuming there truly was no availability from a points reservation standpoint, was what was quoted. However, the reservation would not have come from points inventory but rather from inventory owned (one way or another) by DVD, not DVC.

Dean: given the recently announced upcoming change in direct vs. resale buyers, I'm thinking that MS may have this type of distinction on their minds so it might have come "out of the blue"--whether it's a sanctioned MS response is another questions.

They've always been able to see this info of resale on the screen is my info but in this specific situation the OP was quoting from paperwork though I don't think it's in the planner as stated but rather in the sales paperwork when they took the tour. I find it highly unlikely that MS would have volunteered this info and it's unlikely that the average CM at MS is even that familiar with this option enough to even reference it on the fly. I'd be willing to bet that they had to ask someone at the time of the call when it came up.
