Early Sunday morning my mother's home caught fire. My mother was at a holiday party when the fire started. My brother had been sleeping for several hours and didn't know that she hadn't returned yet. He went to her bedroom and even though the door was hot he still opened it. Yes, I know a big mistake. I asked him why he would open the door and he simply said, "She's my mother. "

I'm so thankful to have them both still here with me, but as we stood there the six hours watching our home burn it was so sad to know that everything was gone.

Friends and family stood there with us, saying things can be replaced and I know they're right, but some of those things were treasures to us. Pictures of dear ones long since passed, Christening gowns handmade by old hands......all gone.

I hope this came out right because it's hard to put into words.

I am so sorry.

Oh no. :( I can't imagine how you feel. I'm sorry.

{{{HUGS}}} to you and your family! :(

What a terrible loss but I am so glad everyone is okay.

My heart is breaking for you! My great Grandmother lost her home to a fire years and years before I was born...but I understand about losing all of those special things. It does feel like a part of you is missing.

I'm so sorry!

I am so happy that everyone is safe! Your brother is a very brave/stupid/loving individual :).

There is nothing wrong about feeling badly about the things lost. All of those items are tangible proof that a history, traditions and people long gone were apart of your family. Sometimes touching the dress grandmom got married in, or showing the medals an
Uncle recieved in the war connect us to our past, and are our proof of our existence and the existence of our loved ones.

Oh no! I'm SO very sorry to hear this.. Makes me feel pretty stupid to be whining about my problems..

Do your Mom and brother have some place to stay? Were you living there too?

Thank God no one was hurt.. And yes - "things" can be replaced - but I hear you loud and clear about the "memories".. It's something no one should have to lose..

My heart goes out to all of you..

Hugs

Oh, sweetie, how heartbreaking for you and your family. I'm so glad that your family was unharmed but I know you must be in shock over the loss of those irreplaceable photographs and mementos.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie.

I am so sorry this has happened to your family. It really is a huge loss and your feelings are perfectly normal.
Something to remember too: I'm sure you always thought your brother was made of the right stuff but now you KNOW. And he was right to do what he did because as he so eloquently put it "She's my mother."

How awful!! :( :(

You have every reason to feel mixed emotions Candykisses. . I'm sure the safety of your mother and brother was your number one concern, but once you knew they were okay, I'm sure thinking about what you had lost was so hard . . :( :(

{{{Hugs}}} I'm so sorrry to hear this happened. . :(

*HUGS* That is a sad loss. I'm very relieved that no one was hurt.

What a tragedy. :(

I'm so sorry for all the treasures you've lost.

I hope that you can quickly rebuild that trove with your mother and brother.

I am so sorry that this happened to your family:(
It truly is the people that are irreplaceable, but I completely
understand what you are saying about family heirlooms.
For what it's worth.......
A very wise woman (my own Mother) once told me that the memories we have aren't in the things that we keep or the house that we live in...
things are just things & a house is just a shell.....the memories are in your heart & nothing can take those away from you.
I'm sending you lots of {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}

a big ((((((((((hug)))))))))) for you! I always fear losing those kinds of things. You are right though, it is a blessing no life was lost.
