I'm so proud of my daughter!

Just thought I would share with all of you how proud I am of my daughter Alyssa and what a wonderful thing she did last night!
Alyssa is 11 years old and last she night she donated her hair to Locks of Love!
She had been growing it long for quite a while now and one day while talking about her hair Locks of Love came up in conversation. At the time her hair wasn't long enough (you need to be able to donate a minimum of 10 inches). So a few weeks ago we had it checked by our hair stylist and sure enough it was long enough. So last night she was finally able to have it cut so she could donate it.
She feels really good knowing that some child out there will benefit from what she did, and I couldn't be more proud of her!

My DD7 has never had a haircut. She is waiting two more years to get her first haircut and donate it to Locks of Love. It is such a great organization. I am letting my hair grow too. So, we can do it together.

Great organization. DD has donated twice (until she turned 19 this year, did ballet, so hair had to be long enough to still be long after she donated) and I have done it once.

In Canada hair has to be 12 inches min. before you can donate it to LFL.
I donated mine back in 2006 and have not let it grow long since, but I also colour my hair now which is also a no no!

you're right to be proud!!!! what a wonderful thing for your daughter to have done....if only some adults were even half as thoughtful as your 11 year old, the world would be a much better place!!

Kat, on their website it says the hair can be colored but not bleached. I also had some other people tell me they had to donate at least 12 inches. So, maybe it's changed since then.

She was very excited when she was finally told it was long enough and a little nervous too, since she didn't know how she would look with short hair. Needless, to say she loves the short hair and the fact that it will be much easier to brush.

Jen - You should be proud, this is a very generous thing to do.

My Kaitlyn has done this twice - she is one of those lucky ones whose hair grows very fast - both times, she donated over 18 inches, she was sitting on her hair.

Give Alyssa a hug for me - what a wonderful thing for her to have done.

That's wonderful! My daughter has REALLY curly hair...I wonder how they would measure that? Do you think they measure it with the curl in or pull it straight and then measure? I will have to mention it to her.

My DD (almost 7) is growing her hair out to donate too. She has about an inch more to grow. My DD is a cancer survivor and is well aware of how happy the wigs make children. She never needed a wig. She was too young, but we still go to annual check-ups in Boston and she has made many friends there who have benefited from Locks of Love.
