I'm so mad! Non-smoking room?

I did call the special guest relations number and the CM was very helpful. She made a note on my reservation about a non-smoking room and also requested a special cleaning.

I can't wait for my trip!!!!! :)

If you have asthma then you might want to clarify what the "special cleaning" is. We rented a pretty expensive suite at the Bellagio once. All of the suites were advertised as non-smoking. I opened the door to the suite and immediately knew it was not going to work as it reeked of cig smoke. I called the front desk and they said that since those rooms were so expensive they allow guests to smoke in them if they want. I was apalled. I told them I was paying a lot of money and I wanted a room that was not smoked in. They said they would do a special cleaning with a special machine and it would fix the problem. We left the room for a while and came back after the cleaning. The cleaner they used in the machine was far worse than the smoke for my breathing. I instantly couldn't breath.

This was a celebration trip because at 38 I had finally gotten my BA degree. I went to the front desk and explained the entire situation. They upgraded us to a 1600 square foot suite with a steam shower and soaking tub, three bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, a wet bar, a big screen tv, and a king size bed room. It was a sweet room, with an even sweeter fresh air smell.

It worked out okay for me, but I could NEVER have stayed in the room after the cleaning.

In Oct. when we checked into our room at POP, I asked to be put in a former non-smoking room. The CM did insist that none of the rooms had any smell left.

Well, we go to our room and it soooo smelled like smoke. We went straight back to the front desk and they moved us immediately. They also told us that it was not ever a smoking room, but obviously, someone had recently smoked there.

The new room smelled nice and fresh!!

The CM I talked to on the special guest services number told me she would do a non-smoking room with the special cleaning on top. I do not have allergies to cleaners (she did ask me if I did), so I should be ok.

It's sad that people who are allergic and cant' stand smoke have to worry about rooms non-smoking rooms because somebody who didn't follow the rules smoked in them.

We entered our room at the Poly last May (2007) and it smelled of an awful perfumy, cleaner smell. My asthma instantly went into overdrive. We contacted housekeeping and a manager was actually just passing by so he stopped in. We didn't want to change rooms since we had the location we wanted. So, they did a special ozone machine cleaning where we had to be gone from the room for several hours. We were leaving anyway so it worked out fine. When we returned, the cleaner order was indeed gone and I was breathing much easier.

As I understand the cleaner they use is supposed to cover up offensive odors. I guess that's fine unless it's the cleaner itself that you find offensive!! Good thing they could do this ozone cleaner thing.

The scariest thing is if a a hotel room smells like smoke now they spray deodorizer which just makes the air worse.:confused3

I would love if WDW and other resorts would go green & back to basics......vinegar & water type products, biodegradable, etc. Would really help all the breathing concerns.
The last estimate was 53 million people have asthma in the U.S. alone. That doesn't include odor/scent related allergies:confused:

Thank you for posting about the ozone machine cleaning. That's a good thing to post so that people know what to ask for just in case. :)

I have to admit that I am surprised that Disney didn't take the former smoking rooms out of inventory and give them a good cleaning and replace the bedding/ect. A room that had been smoked in for years and years just doesn't become "non-smoking" on a certain date.
