Our lab got up on the counter while we were gone and ate a brand new loaf of whole wheat bread. He ate every single slice! Mind you, he's big, about 105 or more pounds, but I'm worried how this will affect him? He looks like a beached whale right now. He's all lethargic also but I think that's because he's stuffed plus he knows I'm mad at him. Do you think he'll be sick? Anything I should watch for?

If anyones had any experience with this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

My cats will get into anything that I leave on the counter. When I put groceries on the counter and go grab the other bags outside the door, they will get into them.

I'm sure someone with dogs will beable to help you out.

that's too funny. I'm watching Turner and Hooch on TBS right now. I just love that dog. He just gave him a bath. Couldn't wrestle him into the tub had to take him outside and to it with the hose and carwash attachment. :rotfl: :rotfl:

okay - the glass is half full approach - at least it was not garbage (TOO MEESY) or chocolate (TOO DEADLY)!!!!!

Our toy poodle likes the "bathroom garbage". She is blind, but totally finds her way through the entire house to find it......

Hope your dog feels better. :)

We really have to watch our lab too. He has gotten into cakes and cookies. NOT good. Now if we are gone more then 15 minutes or so out he goes. Poor boy.

He might throw up, he'll probably poop a lot! :rotfl: Make sure he's got plenty of water. It won't block him up or anything, like the stuff my dog eats.

MY dog is driving me nuts because he is apparently enuretic. He seems to do fine when someone's around, but if he's left alone, even in his kennel, he pees! What is up with that? We will take him out before we put him to bed in his kennel, and get him up first thing in the morning, and it'll be wet.

He also chews all the kids' toys. He's 7 years old, shouldn't he be done chewing? He's got his own toys, and he'll play with them, but doesn't chew them much.........he also gets bones. He also tears up dog beds, towels and clothing. He got hold of a new pair of my jeans I got for Christmas and chewed them.

He's pretty cute, though, and the kids love him. I think he's okay when he's behaving!

Oh great! And he has to pick a day when it's sub zero here. And, DH (who left the bread out I might add) is gone all night tonight so it'll be all me dealing with it.

Our dog got into my dad's office when I was younger and ate an ENTIRE 1 POUND milk chocolate bunny my mom had bought my sister for Easter.

If Buddie could live through that, I'm sure your dog will make it through the bread loaf incident ;)

Well, at least it should be, how shall I say it? A good consistency? You're lucky he didn't get into a bunch of candy...........ooooh, that's a mess! Sauces and gravies are also not much fun. Oh, and once mine got hold of a bunch of grease. I won't go into it.

How old is the dog? I know my labs, even at 6 years old just CAN NOT be trusted to their own devices when we are not home. They get bored and start getting into everything, garbage, toys, food. Unfortunately, that is the thing about labs when they are bored they become VERY destructive. My 6 year old yellow male literally chewed a hole through the linoleum in my kitchen, also he used to love to chew the electrical wires to our AC unit. We think he like the shock. The 2 yr old yellow male, chewed up the entire window AC unit on our back porch, and our 6 yr old chocolate female likes to steal the kids stuffed animals (she thinks they are her babies) and hides them in her kennel.

If you haven't already done so you might wanna consider Crate Training your lab for when you aren't home. It keeps them and your home safe when you aren't there to supervise them. Mine have grown to love theirs and if we leave the doors open when we are home they will go in their to go to sleep.

Our cocker spaniel ate 4 bagels by pulling the bag off the counter! She was just fine.

"O" also forgot to mention once incident where I thought I would just kill my 6 yr old chocolate female. I was cooking a casserole for dinner one night, and stepped away for a minute to deal with my then 3 year old. When I came back, she was counter surfing, and helping herself to my casserole. I could have just died.

Our lab loves her crate too. I find her in there all the time even when I've left it open for her to roam.

She does like being outside though, but we can't even leave her out there alone for too long. Won't need to pay to dig for a pool, just leave her outside for a few hours. :teeth:

I wouldn't worry about it, since it's only bread. I would just keep an eye on him. I'd be far more worried if it had been meat, or chocolate. I've always felt so lucky that my Golden doesn't counter surf.

TMI warning:

My Golden seeks out far worse things. Let's just say that there have been several times where her poop has had strings attached. Since I never know she's gotten into anything, I don't realize it until it's already in the yard. She's always been a paper fanatic and those apparently are just too good to pass up. :crazy2:

I wish.... mine dig at the fence so they can get out and roam the neighborhood. We learned that one the hard way when they were about 1 yr old. I was about 5 months pregnant, and had let the dogs out to go potty. Decided to chill out on the couch while they did their business and accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up they were gone. I was scared to death. They were gone for 3 whole days. We had signs up, had called all vets and shelters, even the local radio stations were mentioning that they were lost and that if anyone found them to call. Thankfully my chocolate girl had found a new home with a family that spoken Spanish, and her son read one of the sings and called us. When we found her and not my yellow boy I just knew something bad had happened to him. I was a mess, but my inlaws decided to take another drive around the area, and knowing him decided to check by the school because he loves kids, and there he was. He had been hit by a car and broken his leg and tail, but he was ok. Ever since then they do not go outside unsupervised. Daggum dogs.... you love em but they drive you crazy!!

One of my pugs got into my daughter's backpack and ate an entire sleeve of Girl Scout cookes once - the peanut butter patty kind. She was sick to her stomach for a few days and it wasn't pleasant for any of us. Despite this, she says she has no regrets.

Oh, how scary!! So far, ours just likes to dig under the trampoline :confused3 - she's got a major hole going underneath there and also at the foundation of the house. That's the one that's driving DH crazy!!

I was in the hospital for 8 weeks (not a typo) trying not to have our latest edition. He started banging on the door at 24 weeks (way too early) and given my preemie history they parked me there till 33 weeks! My poor Siberian Husky Mani-Nana. She was lost without me. They do not do well on their own all day. She ate her way out of three crates, devoured a portion of our bedroom carpet, ate the laundry room door THEN tried to eat the outside door. All in a week. Poor baby. I was mad at the time but her happy smiling face when I came home (without little JJ who had to stay in the NICU) was such a sweet sight.

That was nothing compared to my OB who was also pregnant. Her lab ate all her shower gifts. Apparently she was not happy about the new addition.

Both my Ob's dog and Miss Mani-Nana are now fine with our respective babies. Mani-Nana and little JJ are fast friends now and he is the only one who can pull her tail without her getting huffy and stalking off. JJ even sleeps on Mani-Nana sometimes. It's pretty cute.
