I'm so mad at my both doctors right now!

I have allergies, bad. My eyes are itchy, watery and swollen.

I ran for my bottle of Patanol in my purse and it's empty. I need to refill my prescription.

I called my allergist. He is out until monday, no nurse on fridays either, no sample - too bad. Suggested I call my primary - I did.

They informed me that they "would ask my dr, but prescriptions will take a couple of days" which means I have no relief over the weekend.

Yes, I guess I could go buy some OTC eye drops, but this works immediately and I'm used to it.

I'm asking for eye drops and I'm an established patient and they know this, you'd think I was asking for oxycontin!

Thanks for letting me vent.

I know you shouldn't have to, but can you go to a quick care? DH is miserable with his allergies! Good luck!

I was just getting ready to suggest going to an Urgent Care, also. You really don't want to be without your meds all weekend because you might only get worse.

Also, call your allergist back and see if he has another doctor on call for him this weekend? Maybe that doctor would be nice enough to at least give you a precription to cover you for the weekend.

And finally, try calling your regular doctor back and ask them again. Maybe if you keep calling and bugging them, they'll hurry up and call in your prescription just to have to stop calling! haha

Good luck! I sure hope you start feeling better soon!

Call your pharmacy and ask them if they can give you a maintenance dose until the script is called in! Ours has done it for some of DH's meds in the past!

eta: Boy! I sure sound bossy! I was merely glad to have thought of something that might be useful!

I hope you feel better!

I am mad at mine too:mad:

My eyes were exactly like that for the past few weeks. I finally broke down (after realizing it wasn't going to go away) and bought Claritin 24 hour. Worked wonders. It's worth a shot until you can get your prescription filled.

I have an eyedrop for you that is OTC and works pretty fast.

It's called Opcon-A. It's saved me from misery many times. :)

eta: couple that with a Claritin and you should really be feeling better.

thanks everybody :D

surlymermaid - I will definitely try that, thank you too.

Is it possible that you could arrange to come into the office and pick up the prescription? When you talk to the staff, preface it by saying that you know what a hassle it is to call in a presciption and could I come by and pick it up instead? I know I personally do not always have the time to call into a pharmacy for a prescription. It is much easier for me and my staff to write up a prescription and give it to the patient rather than taking the extra time to wait on hold for a pharmacist.

LionKing - I'd be willing to do that, but I got the feeling they would not be able to accommodate me that way either. This office is always extremely busy and the staff doesn't go out of their way to be helpful with things like this.

Lorix, did you check and see if you have any remaining refills left on your original prescription?

Oh, and HI, Dave (TLK)!! Haven't seen you around here for, like, forever!:wave2:

Yeah, me too! Just did a search on you this morning to see if you were around. How are ya?

How about if you talk to your pharmacist and have them call the doctor's office to authorize the refill?

How is this your doctor's fault? He didn't come use the last of your drops. Didn't you realize you were out when you used the last of it? Sounds like maybe some pre-planning might be needed next time so this doesn't happen again.

I don't think anyone disagrees that pre-planning was in order in this situation.

She has gotten some great advice on this thread, which may also benefit others, on getting her Rx sooner or how to relieve her symptoms in the mean time.

I think the OP was just expressing her frustration that neither of her doctor's offices was able to help her, by making a phone call, when she is feeling so miserable. I am glad she came here to vent, we all need a friend to vent to sometimes.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Denae:D

I get the horrible allergy eye symptoms as well. I even get blisters on my eyeballs. I've been ready to go to the ER a few times so I know how bad it can get. :hugs:

I get great relief with Bausch & Lomb Opcon-A eye drops as well. It is OTC. That and Claritin really help.

I hope you get some relief soon. :)

workinggal - I take full responsiblity for not noticing sooner, but to answer you're question...No, I did not know it was empty, I got one drop in one eye and then no more.

mickeyboat - thank you, you completely understand :D

DebinIA - I did call my pharmacist, but all I had left was for my nasal spray. I won't let this happen again I can tell you ;)

LisaTX - thank you for suggesting Opcon, surlymermaid has also recommended this product, I'll be leaving the house soon and will definitely buy some.
