of all you folks having Disney vacations this summer. We usually go in August, so when we get a hot and humid day, I feel like we should be there, jostling for position at park opening, running to Space Mountain at 8 a.m., trying to cool off while dozing through the Carousel of Progress, runnning for the bus back to OKW, relaxing in the hotel pool, strolling through Epcot World Showcase in the evening, and all those other typical Disney-vacation moments. Yes, it's hot and crowded but still loads of fun.

We are taking a break from Disney this year but plan to go next summer. The planning starts now...:)

Try going to WDW when it is not hot and crowded. You will not be so envious of the August people. It is so much better when it is not crowded, hot, humid, and rainy. I would not be caught dead going in August.

Oh, no, I really enjoy going in August. Yes, another time of year might be better, but DH is a teacher and so summer is best for us. Even though some of the things I mentioned might sound negative, we have a great time at WDW in August...despite the heat and the crowds.

For example, we never worry about it being warm enough to swim...we get wet on Kali River Rapids and dry off before we leave the park (unless we hit a thunderstorm - but those can also be refreshing)...we don't plan our time around when Wishes will be shown, since it's usually every night...we're never tempted to spend mid-day in the parks (and so always go back to the room for a rest)...we never pack jackets or coats - or even long pants...we sweat off the calories from our Mickey ice cream bars while walking between attractions...we visit all the gifts shops on the way out of each park, because they are air conditioned...we buy fun Disney-themed hats to keep the sun off...we don't get cold at Fantasmic when the water effects blow over the crowd...and, summer in Philadephia doesn't feel so hot when we return.

bub, you really sound as if you're missing your DVC fix this August, but you're really a good sport about it. I guess Philadelphia people are just especially nice.

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. No, never lived there, but am a long time Phillies Phan, and love your cheesesteaks!

Bobbiwoz-

Yes, we Philadelphians are special, as are our cheesesteaks. The Phillies...that's another sad story.

I must sound spoiled to gripe about one summer without WDW - but that's what joining DVC does to a person! (But just think of all the points I can use next year...)

When we were raising our DS's, we began going in 1977, we just HAD to go to WDW every 3rd year at least. These were very special trips. Now that we are empty nesters with (very) darling DGC;) , we're hoping to treat the family to a WDW trip every year...I know just how you're feeling. There may be a year when they don't go, but I will feel sad that year for sure.

This year Family trip is in October and the next year it will be June!

I'm glad to hear that. We will be heading down in a few weeks for our first stay at AKV. We have always gone down before in the early Spring or late Fall but the kid's school schedules now dictate when we are able to go.

Having lived all my life in the "Deep South" I know what to expect weather-wise in the summers, but was concerned about the crowds and whether it would just be too miserable to move. We do plan to take all the advice we have seen on these boards (rest/swim in the heat of the day, frozen water bottles, cold/wet washcloths, etc) to help minimize the impact of the heat & humidity the best we can.

It's good to know others are brave enough to tackle a Florida summer with us :)

We usually went in August as we are both in education. I didn't mind all of the people and heat in August. ;) We just came back a few weeks ago from our trip this summer (July 1-10). :cool2: My heart is hurting so bad to go back. But the good news is we are going again from Dec. 29th- Jan. 6th. So I am on the count down again::woohoo:

156 days to go!

We avoid the peak times, but have been to DVC in every month from March to November. I understand the school schedule... DW used to be tied to it... I am sure starbox could give you some stories... or pointers... Starbox... where are you?

bub,
We are from the Phila. area and been members since 93. We have also enjoyed DW in August. I always thought the crowds were a little lighter than other summer times as some states have already gone back to school. Besides, DW in August is better than Phula. in August.:rotfl2:

Don't worry about the Phillies. They're playing the Nats so they'll win a few at
least! That was a heartbreaker last night. Boohoo! I'm a Nats fan. I admit it!:headache:

Bub.... we have been going in August for the last 5 years and going again this year. I love August.... We go in very early as well leave around lunch... go for a swim.... take a nap :goodvibes in the AC and then head out for dinner at night! Crowds don't seem too bad nothing like TDay in '05 when we went. OMG I always wonder why the had 2 condiments bars at places like Pecos Bills.... now I know why! The line for ketchup was as long as getting the burgers themselves LOL!!!

See you next year!!!

Hey, Bub, I'm with you.

My DH and DS'S usually go during the summer, but are going this December for the holidays instead.

I'm not complaing:confused3 , 'cause I can't wait to see the holiday magic, but I do miss the summer fun there, too!

If it will help, you can pretend you are me! We are going the third week of August, as I also work in education, not to mention DD is starting college six days after we get back! The last week in August has always been the week we usually go, but because of DDs schedule, we bumped it up a week. I will enjoy it for you!

Thanks, Figment56 - I will pretend I'm there...

Glad to see there are others who appreciate a good dose of Disney in the summer, especially in August. Who needs perfect weather and no crowds to have fun? May you all have hurricane-free adventures this year.;)
