i just got off of work, and i got my paycheck today..and i'm so happy!

here's the back story:
i've been working in the same place for 3.5 years now. i started off at min wage, which was $7.15 an hour. every year i work, i get a measly raise, so by the beginning of the summer i was only at $7.45 an hour. horrible, especially for working there for 3.5 years.

welllll, today i looked at my paycheck, and some miracle happened, and i now make $8.50 an hour!!!!!!!! i got a random $1.05 raise!!! :cool1::banana::yay::woohoo::dance3:

i was so worried about working, but i'm barely getting any hours, and i NEED money for the school year to pay for food (i'm living in an on-campus apartment which has a full kitchen, and i only have the minimum meal plan, etc.)

so now that i'm making a lot more an hour, i'm not as worried!! i just needed to celebrate a little! :goodvibes

I love it when stuff like that happens! Bridgestone gives out a LOT of overtime, and with one shift of OT, his check can jump 100+ easily. I love those fridays. ;)

And since you're having to grocery shop, if you have an Aldi's near you my grocery bill dropped a TON when I switched from Walmart to Aldi. Yesterday I bought a cart full of stuff (enough groceries for two weeks) for 60.00. It would have been at least twice that at walmart.

no aldi's sadly. i only have a super walmart, a giant, and a weis. the latter two are pretty expensive compared to other super markets. i'll do some research and see if there are any others that are a little farther off campus though.

I would look for Save-A-Lot, they're good for dry/canned/frozen. I'm not familiar with their produce, though.

And if you're looking for new furniture I totally bought a wooden coffee table and a wooden side table (that i'm using for a tv stand) for 45.00 total. They have some great deals on a lot of furniture but I didn't have the money to buy everything I wanted at once lol. I'm going to go back there for a book case and maybe a desk too. Possibly some more of those side tables.

ok thanks, i'll look for that one too. we do have a BJ's, which is a whole sale place. my parents have a membership but i don't, so they would have to take me there. but i do need to find a cheaper place to do weekly grocery shopping. thanks again shelby!

eta: just searched for an aldi, and there is one about 2 miles from my school. who knew?! haha

Congrats! That's great!!! :thumbsup2

But i can't believe how low your min wage is!! It's $10.25 here! I have one job where i get paid $10.25 and one where i get pais $12, i could never make enough money for school without both those jobs. eek

$1.05 is a really big raise though!! Congrats again! :goodvibes

haha I lived next to an Aldi for like six months. I always thought it was a shipping store like Fed Ex or something like that. Its awesome though, I'm glad you found one!

You have to pay for your bags too. Its .10 for a BIG plastic bag (like almost the size of a garbage bag lol) or .05 for a paper bag. I always buy plastic because I perpetually get second floor apartments and I don't want the paper to rip on the stairs.

And you have to use a quarter to get the cart out of the cart corral. you get your quarter back (its to make people return their carts) but that can be a hassle if you, like me, never use cash and only use a debit card lol.

yeah, i was reading about how the store works on the website. It's really cool though! i'll probably just bring my own bags, i have tons of tote bags and stuff, so that'll be fine.

i'll definitely have to check it out when i'm back up at school. the only thing is, it doesn't look like it's in a good area. i go to school in a city, so there are many sketchy parts. i'll have to see for sure though.

If you have friends/roomates you could plan to go grocery shopping together. I'm in a city too, so I usually feel more comfortable if I go certain places with another person.
