A good friend of ours is getting married in Cancun and my dh is in the wedding. We were supposed to leave this morning and come back on Sunday. Well, Tuesday night I get a call from my ds's pediatrician. He had some routine bloodwork done on Monday and apparently the blood culture was growing something, could be strep or staph. Protocol for that was hospital admission, IV antibiotics until the cultures come back negative. He had NO symptoms otherwise! His oncologist told us that if it's strep he can come home today or tomorrow with oral antibiotics, if it's staph he has to stay for the IV antibiotics. So far it looks like strep, but I had to cancel my trip to Cancun because our flight had to leave at 7am this morning. My dh went ahead without me (since he's in the wedding and there was really no reason he needed to stay). It sounds like it may have been a common strep bacteria that we caught early, or that his body was in the process of fighting it off. I'm glad that Matt's going to be fine and that he's getting what he needs, but I'm so bummed out - this was going to my and my dh's first trip together without kids in over 4 years, sort of like the honeymoon we never had. Plus I don't get to see our friends get married. We've been planning it for over a year, I'm just disappointed, especially since this is such a routine thing for Matt (he's on chemo and this sort of thing happens from time to time). My MIL offered to be with him while were were gone, even the doctor said to go ahead and go, that Matt would be fine and they could discharge him to my MIL, but I felt too guilty leaving him there in the hospital while we jetted off to Cancun. To top it all off, we didn't purchase trip insurance so the resort won't give us any of our money back.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I keep forgetting it's Memorial Day weekend.
