I'm riding solo, I'm riding solo, I'm ridin solo, sooloooo. Sept. 2014 *Update 06/09*

yes!! the shops are a lot better than Hogsmeade's imo. I was really bothered by the number of shops that weren't actually shops in Hogsmeade, like they were just the decorated store front...but that's not the case in Diagon lol there's tons of shopping to be done!! :goodvibes

:worship::worship::worship:

I'm sure my bank account will be thrilled to here that!:rotfl2:

Hi!! I'm Sarah and I'm joining in here!

I'm so jealous of your job, working with such awesome animals! That photo of you with the lion is so cool.

Popping in to give my opinion on your costume - I love the Indiana Jones idea too and you would look fab in that, but your Minnie dress looks amazing on you!! If the only thing holding you back from that is riding rides in a dress, don't sweat it imo. I wore dresses at least half the time my last trip and riding rides was fine! Space Mountain was the only one where climbing in was a LITTLE tricky. And this year my friends and I are dressing up super fancy for Dapper Day complete with poofy petticoats and everything so I really think you'd be good in the dress, if you still wanted to be Minnie :hyper:

Your trip is so soon!! Do you have much planning left to do ?

Dapper Day looks awesome and saw your costumes for it on your PTR! All look amazing! Very jealous! Your plans look like so much fun! Celebrating your "birthdays" is such a good idea! Wondering if I can get away with that as my birthday is just after I get back...hmmmmm.....

Awww thank you so much about the dress. I used to have a similar one when I was slimmer but never had the confidence to wear it but now my body needs all the help it can get to look good lol! I shall keep Space Mountain in mind and try to be a lady like as possible lol.

I'm pretty much all planned except for my last few days. I want to plan and try to see if some good ADRs appear last minute but at the same time I'd like the freedom to pop back to US if I'm in the mood. Oh decisions, decisions lol

Hey everyone!

So life is about the get pretty hectic for me over the next couple of weeks before my trip so I'm going to try to get in a few posts this week. I'm finally heading off for my first summer holiday :cool1: next Monday with my DBFF and we are going to Fuerteventura (which is an island off the coast of Africa) sooo excited as I haven't been away in ages and it's a last hurrah before my friend goes back to work in her school (HAHAHAHAHA!! Oh the joys of mostly being self employed!) But long story slightly shorter, I will be off the grid for 8ish days and back 6 days before I finally get to go to WDW so please, don't mind me this week.

So where were we...ahhhh yes.....

Day 5 - Animal Kingdom and DTD!!

My DB taking a picture of Everest

If you hadn't already noticed....I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE animals (unless they have more than 6 legs because that's just not normal) so AK is usually one of my favourite days. I'm pretty much going to take it as a fairly relaxing day where I can potter around taking photos more than anything. Alot of people don't think that you can enjoy seeing animals in a zoo-like environment like AK after seeing them in the wild but personally I get joy out of seeing animals pretty much anywhere and zoos are one of my specialisms academically so it is always interesting to see them from that point of view. I do also have a minor issue with Disney removing the storyline on the Safari about the poaching. I've heard people mention is as just a storyline to spice it up but poaching is a very real problem and I think Disney was right to have it there in the first place even if it did upset some people! Plus it was nowhere near as horrific as what actually happens to those poor animals but that's just my two cents

But back to happy thoughts....

I'm very much looking forward to trying a Dole Whip for the first time (I never knew about these until joining Dis). I might even get it with a shot of rum because this is my first trip to the World being over 21 (I was 2 months shy my last trip) so why not?!?

I'm also looking forward to seeing FOLK in it's new home in Africa (why it wasn't there in the first place, I have no idea!) I already have the songs running through my head! I also have a FP for this so I will hopefully get a good seat to take pictures without annoying my neighbours.

I also have FPs for EE and Dinosaur which one day I will do with my eyes open the entire time or at least I'll look up the whole time. Pretty sure the last time I just looked at the floor for a good portion of it because personally I find it pretty scary but that's just me. Any other adults out there hate it when you find something scary and then the little kid next to you is like "Omg! That was awesome/boring/fun" and you just want to die of embarrassment at how much you screamed....anyone......nevermind.....

So AK has a couple of firsts for me that I'm determined to tick off:
1) Primeval Whirl - always wanted to do it but no one else ever has so I will do it this time
2)Dole Whip - see above
3) Conservation Station - for academic purposes
4) Not doing ITTBAB - OMG! This ride! Never fun! But it's being rehabbed during my trip so oh well....

I'm also going to avoid Finding Nemo - did it last time and was bored out of my mind. My Mum loved it but it's really just not for me (sorry!)

I'm also going to try to fit in Flights of Wonder and a few character M&G but we'll see how I go for time and energy. Oh yeah and Kali (nearly forgot that one) which reminds me that I need to buy a poncho at some point...hmm...

Us after Kali last time

Almost forgot!! The Gorilla's just had a baby that's now out and about!!! Love baby Gorillas!! Well love baby anything pretty much but baby primates are dead cute and so much fun!

So onto my evening.....

I'm hoping to get out of AK by 2.30/3pm to head back to the resort for a bit of a power nap and shower before I head to DTD for the evening.

I have a reservation for House of Blues at 7.15pm so I'd like to be at DTD by about 6.30 so I can just potter around the shops a bit and maybe, just maybe, do a little (emphasis on the word "little" shopping). My older bro has just rediscovered Star Wars lego so I'd love to get him something to go with his little set and maybe get a new Christmas ornament for my parents.

I did look at going to a concert at HOB during my trip but the only two acts I had heard of were Lily Allen and Little Mix (who have now cancelled) so I didn't really want to see a UK act. I would have LOVED to see the Pretty Reckless but they are there a couple of days before I arrive :sad2:

So after my dinner I have a ticket to see Cirque du Soleil La Nouba! I've never seen them before so I'm really excited for this! I know a few people who have gone and they say it's incredible so I can't wait to see it! Also managed to get some good seats through a special offer I found and so it was sooo much cheaper than seeing them on this side of the pond:banana:

So that's my post for today. Tune in next time for when things get a bit complicated.....

Helllooooo everyone!!! Welcome to the next update for my PTR

Unfortunately got some sad news today and it looks like we're going to have to put our "little man" Bubble (who I spent last week nursing) to sleep. I think his time has come and sadly, his body just can't cope with his demands so it is a very sad week for us here. But here is a pick of Bubbs from a few months ago

In other cat related news my other two little darlings Sophia and Delphi (otherwise known as "Madams," "Rat-bags," "Grumpy-guts") are all booked in to the cattery for their own holiday while I'm away. This is because my parents have decided to go away to "golf" or something so they won't be around to feed them. But it's one less thing to tick off my to do list. These are my Rat-Bags - so called because they tend to bite/whine/generally look at you in a disapproving way

Delphi dos (actually otherwise known as Splodge)

Princess Sophia - because she thinks she's in charge

Ok, on with my trip....

Day 6 - Magic Kingdom and Epcot

Now I initially had only planned for half a day at MK  because that's all we needed last time we were there as a family BUT that was before I got started here on Dis. I was all set to skip FL and just ride the headliners before heading off to Epcot and then I spoke to ALLLL of YOU and read loads of stuff on the forums and suddenly not only did I want to have a go on all the classics - PP, IASW, CBJ, TR - but I wanted to meet Gaston  and Jack Sparrow  and so on....so my plan got a bit messed up and I started to panic....then I extended my stay for 3 days and now things have all changed a wee bit

Can't wait to see this place again!

So the plan as of this current moment is:

Hit MK at RD for the welcoming party - can't remember if I've ever seen it - and then shimmy on over to Tomorrowland and do everything there and see what the time is. I then have a FP+ for Peter Pan from 9.55 from TL to FL where I'll do things before my 7DMT FP+ (Yes I managed to get one - mind you just the one in the 7 days of my trip) and then go to BOG for lunch. I'm so excited I managed to get a BOG reservation!!! The pictures all look amazing!! BUT WAIT I hear you say, just one ADR a day I heard you say....yes....yes....that was the plan but BOG was just too hard to resist. So I've ordered the French Onion Soup and Cupcake with the "grey stuff" which I can always save for later....

So as you might have guessed I'm pretty much planning to move around the park in an anti-clockwise direction. So after BOG and FL I will move through Liberty Square and see if I have the courage to go on HM and/or convince a handsome stranger to hold my hand throughout....if not then there will be other opportunities.....then hit Frontierland and Adventureland last.

I'm really hoping to be finished at MK by 3pm (ish) as I have an ADR at Epcot at 4.35. In my favour for this plan is the fact that it's a MNSSHP night (and it's a friday) so in theory it should be pretty quiet. All the crowd calendars have the day down as a 2 so fingers and toes crossed please!

Ok, so then onto Epcot! Now some crowd calendars have Epcot as a big no-no but then others say it will be fine so I think I'll take my chances! So hopefully my first stop will be to see if there are any fastpasses left for either Soarin or Maelstrom. As a single rider, Test Track and Mission Space shouldn't be a problem.

So I have an (really) early ADR at the Rose and Crown. This pretty much happened because 1) I booked my holiday quite late 2) Thought I wouldn't really have eaten earlier in the day and 3)because I though "aha! While most other people are eating I can be jumping on TT and other popular rides" but we will have to see how that plan works out popcorn::

Epcot for me is the park that is neither here nor there. I like the headliners and things but there's a lot I'm not bothered about. I am however looking forward to exploring World Showcase a lot more than I think I have before (again I'm totally blaming Dis!) Not sure how much I'll get done on a friday night but I'm always positive! I'd love to try to drink around the world (abit) and I saw someone mention a grey goose slushie somewhere on here so if it's there I will find it! Although if someone would like to give me a heads up that would be great. Hopefully...I will hit Canada by the time Illuminations starts so I can maybe find room to stand on the steps and take photos or videos.

Then I will potter around and avoid the mad rush for the buses before heading back to POR for a good night's sleep and my first Disney lie-in possibly ever!!! Tune in next time.....:thumbsup2

wow that trip you're going to take sounds amazing! be sure to take lots of pics, if you can ^_^

Oh my GOSH I'm so excited for you to see Cirque du Soleil!! I've never seen it but it's at the TOP of my list of things to do and I've heard such amazing things about it. I know you're going to love it, you'll definitely have to write about it when you get back to tell us how it went!! popcorn::

your cats are adorable! so sad to hear about Bubble :( but I'm sure it's for the best and he'll be in a better place.

sounds like you have some great stuffed planned for MK and Epcot that day! can't wait to hear more :goodvibes

Just got my 2nd DSLR so this trip will be my first to really play with it so you can expect many, many pictures I'm sure. Plus when you're on your own, it's something to keep you busy lol

Yeh I can't wait for Cirque. Although I get the feeling it's going to make me feel really unfit and very inflexible lol

aww thanks. Yeh the girls are amazing really although Delphi is currently giving me the dirtiest look for moving the quilt cover that she's snuggled up on. Oops! Yeh it's really sad to see him go but it's all for the best. One of the good things about working with animals is that it's a lot easier to rationalise quality of life over length.

Woooooo hoooooooo!! I finally get a lie-in after 5 straight days of EE and RD:woohoo: Think both me and my feet will be completely knackered by then!

So my plan for the weekend is as follows:

Day 7 - Mini Golf and Extra Magic Hours

So as you've seen I'm trying to fit in a few Godwin family traditions during this trip and mini golf is another one. My whole family plays/has played normal golf but as I pretty much refuse to do it nowadays if we want a bit of "friendly" family competition we play mini golf. I usually finish last ("It's a fix!") but I don't mind because there's usually at least one hole each where we completely fall apart and balls go flying.

So I'll probably have a quick breakfast and then head to DTD to get the bus over to the Swan for Fantasia Golf! I'm currently trying to find someone else who is around that morning for a game but no such luck at the moment. Maybe some other family will take pity on me and let me play with them lol

This is the one I particularly suck at!

Then depending on what time it is I might have a cheeky wonder around the Swan and then head back to DTD for a bit more shopping and my 2pm ADR at Planet Hollywood!!! I love this place! The theming and food and all the staff I've always found really good.

Altogether now.."Pretty woman, walking down the street..."

After lunch it's then back to the place where the child in every adult comes out (in a variety of ways - adult temper tantrums anyone?) Magic Kingdom and EMH :yay:. My first FP+ is for Splash Mountain from 3.30 so I'm not too rushed after lunch to get there. Also hopefully any afternoon storms will have passed by then. I then have FP+ for Space Mountain from 6.35 so I'll just take my time in the crowds and jump on any ride that hasn't go too long of a wait - although I'm pretty patient so I'm not too bothered by 30min+ wait times. I'm also FINALLY going to get to see Wishes!!! I've heard so many good things about it I can't wait. I've also got FP+ for it so I plan to get to the Rose Garden early to set up my camera tripod where it hopefully won't be in anyone's way and just breathe and take in the atmosphere!

Hopefully then the crowds might go down a little after the fireworks so it should make getting on rides and M&Gs a little easier but I'm just speculating as I've never been to an evening EMH but once again fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll make it to the end! Then I'll eventually get home and curl up in bed for my 2nd ever Disney lie-in!!! Woooooooo!!!!:cool1:

Oh wait no I lie......originally this was my departure day but as it's now just another day, I changed my plans.....duh!

Day 8 - Animal Kingdom

Heading back to AK today mostly because I'm doing a CHARACTER BREAKFAST!!!! I've only ever done one of these before, I think on my first ever WDW visit 20 years ago and all I remember was Jafar making my Dad jump and the Genie starting a conga line. So I've got brekkie at Tusker House where I've never eaten before and I'm interested to try out Disney's version of African cuisine. I read in someone's TR about them having Mielie Pap which is my FAVOURITE African brekkie dish but it was from a while ago so I don't know if they still do it. But if they do have it and you go - golden syrup and/or fresh fruit in it is amazing!

But I digress....I have FP+ for the adventurers outpost but I think that may be the characters that I met at breakfast so I might change that one for something else. I then have FP+ for Kali and EE so I'll wander on over to Asia and see what's happening. Hopefully I should be done by 1.30/2pm so I can head back to the hotel to get ready for my first MNSSHP!!!party:

Helllllloooooo everyone!! If you're a returning reader thank you very much for putting up with me and if you've just happened to stumble across this PTR then WELCOME!!!:wave2:

Also TWO WEEKS TODAY:banana::banana::banana:

So this will be my last update before I go away. Staying at a friend's house tonight and then we have to be at the airport for 3.30am tomorrow. :thumbsup2
Just keep thinking of the sun Vicky, keep thinking of the sun!!:beach:

So if you're just joining me I am currently in my hotel room (not literally) and getting ready for my very first MNSSHP! :cheer2:

Day 8 (cont) - MNSSHP

Most of you will have seen my costume options: Indiana Jones and Minnie Mouse so I think I'm going to go with Indiana Jones (girl version btw) for the first party and then Minnie for my second - yes that's right, I'm going to two parties!! But anyway, my costume for IJ is all sorted except for my hat and whip which I will get at HS the Wednesday before and a cross shoulder bag that will fit my DSLR in.....

I'm pretty sure most people reading this will be familiar with the HP but as I am a total novice I have been doing some reading about it. That being said I have absolutely no plan for the party :scared: Yes the Type-A style planner inside me is having a full on hissy fit at that.

One of the things I don't have to worry about are the candy trails. I can't/don't eat it (plus coming from the UK makes American chocolate taste weird!) so that's one thing down. I'm probably thinking about skipping the parades/fireworks this first party to try to get into see some characters. Ok I'll definitely skip the first parade and watch the fireworks from wherever I am and then maybe hit the 2nd parade. But we shall see. I may be knackered by now and in need of my bed.

I'm actually really excited that the Princesses will be appearing with their villains because I'm not sure I will have had the chance to meet any of them yet. I'm also interested to see the Villains Dance Party and see who I can get to see. OMG! Gaston maybe  Yes, yes I may be developing a slight Gaston obsession but who can resist this:

Thanks Google! Just have that line from that song in my head now....you know the one I mean....."He's such a tall, dark, strong and handsome brute"

I'll probably just potter around and take photos really and get on some rides with what I have been told will be "little" or "no wait" - personally I think 20mins is "little wait" but hey, I'm British and we invented the queue.

But yeh so basically my plan for MNSSHP is not having a plan - although if anyone would like to give me some advice that would be awesome!!!

Ok guys, well I will post again when I return on the 1st September when it will be only 6 days will my trip :cool1::cool1:

Hi,

Reading your PTR with huge interest as I am debating to do a solo trip to WDW next April also for 10 days - mother only wants to go one a year! Can't understand that one?!?! :confused3

I have however done MNSSHP [once] but done MVMCP several times. The 'rules' are fairly similar. See the second parade, make sure you get there early to see the Headless Horseman ride through - double check that 'he' is going - weather dependent, based on how slippery the ground gets for the horse not to slip. There are a number of special shows, character meets etc...

BTW - the mickey dress looks fab on you. Looking at it, don't think you have too much to worry about 'falling' out of it, they look secure. :)

Hahaha well I've been so excited about my trip my parents have extended their trip in November and now my brother is flying over from San Francisco to meet them.

Yeh I'm hoping the lines for the characters won't be too long as I'm going quite early but we shall have to see.

Aww thanks! Just got back from holiday so I really hope I still fit in it after a lazy week at the beach :scared:

I'mmmm baaaaaackkk!!! :cool1:

Hey everyone! Back from my hols slightly browner (very slightly) and a little burnt but I had a lovely week and am now in the mild panic of having LOADS to do this week and very little time to do it in - writing this also reminded me that I need to get my washing out of the machine.....:laundy:

In a real life update I've got a full day out tomorrow at a wedding photography course brushing up on my skills as I've got my first one coming up. Got to be on the train at 5.44am tomorrow morning :coffee: so I can't imagine that will be fun but luckily I'll be racing across London before rush hour so I won't have to use my camera bag as a battering ram!

I'm also seeing an old buddy of mine on Saturday who has been training for the Army for the last 18 months or so and he's been posted to a barracks round the corner from me for 6 weeks so I'm really excited to see him.

My final big jobs for this week is that I have to get some uni work done as I have deadlines before I head off to Namibia on October 1st where I'm hoping to get my research for my dissertation done but time is quickly running out.....

Ok so I've just been telling you about my MNSSHP plans. Really excited that more details and pics are coming out now they've had the first one!! I have spied some limited edition pins so I must make a note to save some spending money for them! Also had an argument with my parents last night about them wanting to use the suitcase I had just used while I was away. I really didn't want to unpack the stuff I was going to take with me to Disney but then they reminded me that if I took a bigger suitcase I'd have more room for purchases.....let's just say I quickly unpacked the entire suitcase first thing this morning!

So we are up to my last 3 days of my trip  I only have a loose plan for them but I'll share them anyway

Day 9 - Cheeky trip to the Dark Side

As you will recall, I have plans for getting a new tattoo while I'm in Florida so this day I'm going to head back to Universal for the day and hit both parks and then get my tattoo done in the afternoon/evening - Not sure how long it will take but they are open till midnight so I should have time for a good day in the parks first. I won't have express pass this time but again hopefully being a single rider will pay off. I'll want to get on MiB for definite and then if I'm at a loss I might see if I can just queue up at Gringotts and take photos of the details in the queue and then take the exit before the ride. As the line times are posted at 40 mins atm (at getting to peak times) I'm hopeful I'll be allowed. If not I'll have to take pics with my point and shoot camera and hope the quality is alright. Hopefully this will be a pretty relaxed day after my previous late night. Once my tattoo is done I'll either grab some food at Citywalk or just head back to POR

Day 10 - MNSSHP No 2!

My last full day at Disney :( Giving myself another lie-in as I'm pretty sure I'll be dead on my feet by now and then I thought I'd head over to the Boardwalk and look around the resort and then I have an early lunch ADR at Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. Really wanted to try here as I've heard so many good things and I would love to try one of their milkshakes! After that I'll head back to the resort to Minnie myself up for the party. My first FP isn't until 2.40, *fingers crossed for talking Mickey,* at Town Square so I'll get to MK at some point before that ends then I have meeting Cinders and Rapunzel (maybe with their princes) at 4.10 and then I've got POTC between 6 and 7. Going in early, I'll probably keep my Minnie ears and gloves in my bag and then put them on when I start seeing people in costumes a bit later on. Also if I'm there early I can hopefully get a wristband without there being too much of a queue. I'm sure for this party I'll have a bit more of an idea about what I'm doing and will try to hit things that I missed the first time round. I will get a picture with Captain Jack if it kills me!pirate:

Day 11 - Time to go home:sad:

Unfortunately I do have to go home at some point.....and that is today. On the bright side....my flight isn't until 8pm:cheer2: I think I need to arrive 3 hours before my flight but I will check so I'll probably need to be back at POR by about 3.30-4pm. I'll probably get a cab rather than the ME just because I think it will be quicker and if I feel the need to have a little weep as I leave, it won't be in front of a whole bunch of strangers! So I'm not really sure what to do with my last day, I'll have tickets that I can use for both Disney and Universal so I might see where the mood takes me and use the day for maybe doing something I missed out on. I'm only planning on half a day at Epcot so maybe I'll head there for a few hours.

So that's my plan for my last 3 days. I almost can't believe it's nearly here!!! Just 5 more days :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I bought my notebook for keeping my trip report in today as I've heard about a lot of solo travelers using their meal times to write down what they've done and I thought that was a great idea. Usually I give up on keeping a diary after about a month so hopefully I'll manage this trip. Also loaded up my camera bag with all my equipment today and I'm pretty sure I pulled a muscle in my back picking it up and it doesn't even have the tripod on it yet :worried: Luckily I only have to carry it to travel and then I have a smaller one for taking to the parks when I'll only take a couple of lenses with me.

Hopefully my next post will have some photos, probably of me surrounded by all the stuff I think I need to take but probably won't use....

ahhh I can't wait for MNSSHP!! The limited edition pins look awesome, I can't wait to buy all of them :) your party plans sound great!

Fab pre trip report sounds like you're going to have an amazing time :goodvibes look forward to reading about the trip and seeing the pictures. Have fun ::MinnieMo:mickeyjum:simba:

I know!! Gotta get me some pins!!! Aww thanks! So worried I'm going to miss something so I'm very glad I decided to go twice.

Awww thanks! I'm getting so excited now. Not sure I'll be sleeping tonight :hyper:

This time tomorrow I will hopefully be in my hotel room at Universal grabbing my camera before heading out to the parks :banana::banana: OMG!!! Soooo excited!!!

So I packed my bag this afternoon and realised that I had a tiny bit of washing still to do GAH!. But this is how my packing started out

And this is how it ended (ish)

I would like to thank the people here at DIS for the recommendation of the vacuum pack storage bags. They are awesome!!! Managed to fit pretty much everything I need in one side of the suitcase which leaves the whole other side for purchases:cool1::cool1: But yeh, these things are amazing!

Also today I have bought some new UV filters for my camera, backed up my computer, washed my trainers that I'm taking (they were covered in mud and stuff from South Africa), printed of my boarding card and created a pile of things on my bed that I forgot I needed such as Hayfever medicine and plasters. Also had to go to the supermarket to get some face wipes, conditioner and tattoo cream (which I'm sure I had 2 tubes of but couldn't find).

I must also remember to pack socks!!! I can't tell you the number of times I have gone away with packing any! I've also remembered my waterproof coat because so far the forecast looks pretty thundery but I don't really mind. Although the 105 degrees realfeel could be interesting! So glad Universal has quite a few indoor rides to I can hide out on while I acclimatise.

My fluffbabies so far haven't seemed to bothered by the suitcase in my room. Usually they are all over it and get very anxious but they really don't seem to care. Don't know if that's good or bad.

Definitely starting to get a little nervous now. All of a sudden I've realised that I'm actually going and I'm going on my own. I'm sure I'll be fine but it just snuck up on me all of a sudden.

So I shall sign off now. Not sure if I'll be able to do a live trip report but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on DIS. Thank you all for joining me in the build up and I hope to have lots of pics and a fun trip report to tell you all about when I get back!

:moped:
