I'm really sorry...

I am thinking of having my tonsils out - when I get sick I get horrendous sore throats and you can see my tonsils are inflamed.

Was it bad having this done as an adult?

I had them out when I was an adult...

I think it depends on how the doctor approaches the aftercare.

It's gonna be sore but don't baby yourself. My Dr. told me to eat whatever I wanted but to avoid two things. Salt and Carbonated drinks until the healing was done.

I came home from the hospital and had a burger and fries (unsalted) for lunch. It took me most of the afternoon to eat it, but once I was past being afraid to swallow it went ok from there. Sure... eat soft foods (I think I took out stock in Mac and Cheese that week...) but I remember also eating chicken and a few other things too.

My neighbor had them out at the same time and her Dr. told her to eat ice cream, etc (you can do that along with the other soft foods...) but since she was afraid to swallow she was still drinking shakes a week later.

After I had them out, I didn't get any more severe throat infections and my sinuses improved too.

Pete... take care of yourself... We'll be here when you get back!

Get well Pete. I'll miss listening to ya!

Had my tonsils out at 25. I am now 58. Use to get strep or tonsillitis at least 5 times a year. Would get bery sick. I have had it once since I had my tonsil out. After, my throat was not sore, but my ears killed for a day or tow. We have the fuu gong around here. Godd luck and everyone get better. We have a long winter ahead of us.

I was 21 or 22 when I had mine out - I had no problems at all. I had the same issues with the tonsils.

As I told you guys last time we met in LA, please, please, please, take care of yourselves and do not worry about the podcast.

Very few podcasts are as long, comprehensive, bi-weekly, and FREE!.

For God's sake, thank you all for all you do for us fans; and thank you for your passion that you kindly share with us.:worship:

Hope you all feel better soon...CHICKEN SOUP FOR EVERYONE!:thumbsup2

I had mine out a few years ago, and I won't lie-it was horrible. I couldn't eat real food for over a week. Anything more crunchy than mashed potatoes seemed to scrape at the scabbing and I lost a ton of weight.

BUT, that week of misery was worth it. ::knock on wood:: I haven't had strep, sore throats, or any type of pain since.

I had abscesses on mine that wouldn't drain and I had tonsillitis or strep constantly and severely. Getting them out was the best thing I ever did.

Get better real soon. I had a bout with my vertigo today. And no it has very little to do with Jimmy Stewart. I hope you feel better soon.

I send you some virtual echinacha.:)

It might be something to do with Sinuses. I had coughing and general sickness in August and it all had to do with Sinuses.

It's not fun, but I rarely get sick and never ever get sore throats after having them out.

I must add to the list of 'adults with tonsils out' stories - my mom had to have hers out in her 50s because of an abscess, and it was awful. The doctor told her at the time that having your tonsils removed as an adult is a much more serious procedure than it is for young people, and he wasn't kidding, at least in her case. I still have mine (in my 30s) and I hope I never have to have them out now after watching that. I'm not a fan of the sore throats/ear pain that comes with being sick, but ... :scared1:

Feel better soon, Pete! There have been a lot of bugs going around here lately (I've been recovering from one for a few weeks, so I feel your pain). :flower3:

I've got to comment here...

Every time that we don't have a podcast for the week due to illness, the podcast team has to bend over backwards with apologies. It's just not right!

Poor Pete, and now Walter, appear that they feel they have to justify not having a podcast. A key member of the team is really sick. They don't want to get everyone else sick. It's as simple as that!

I personally detest those people that come into work when they are sick - all they do is make the rest of the company sick. I appreciate that the members of this team are smart enough to not spread illnesses around.

Pete, Walter - thanks for the 'heads up' on not getting a show. I appreciate that type of communication - but no apologies are necessary. Mature people 'get' it, and the rest of those that don't understand will be able to go on with their lives.

I, like many others, really look forward to the shows each week, and it is a disappointment when I don't get to hear them. That being said, I'd rather have a bunch of healthy podcasters doing their job and not have a single week's worth of shows. You have the most entertaining podcast out there, and I (selfishly) want the team to be around for years so that I can continue to enjoy it!

*Off my soap box now*

Pete - feel better quick! You need to be on the top of your game for your upcoming trip!

Jon

I couldn't agree with you more. The podcast crew has NOTHING to explain to anyone. They do a fine job. I don't know of any other business that bends over backwards to accommodate and appease its customers in this way.

:flower3: Pete, I hope you fell better soon.

When you see your doctor, ask that your blood work check for low Vitamin D. NC Beast has been tested for this 2x in the past 2 years and he has to take supplements and we both make sure to increase the foods rich with vitamin D as well as a little sun time without spf.

webmd link: http://www.webmd.com/diet/vitamin-d-deficiency

You might also need to get your various vitamin b levels check.

I hope that you are well enough for your abd trip.

Pete,

Two years ago I went through about a year where it seemed I was catching a new cold every week, it was terrible. Well, I didn't do anything different and I haven't had a cold for over a year. I don't know why. :confused3

Moral of story I guess is you're getting unlucky with catching the cold.

Anyways, hang in there baby!! You'll be better soon.

Oh, if you need me to step in and host I'm available. (the show wouldn't be nearly as good though because you do a great job of hosting).

Feel better, Pete!! As I type this, I can hear my son hacking in the other room.

Pete, don't even worry about it!! Take care of your health and feel better soon! :wizard:

I appreciate you letting us know when a podcast won't be up so I'm not logging into Itunes every five minutes on "Podcast Wednesday." But since I'm a new listener I have many old Podcasts to keep me entertained while you recover.

Hard to go on one of your much-needed rants if it leads to a coughing fit!

Get well soon!

Feel better soon, Pete!

Just a little something to try: whenever I have a sore throat, I steep a tea bag in hot apple juice. It makes a really good cider-y treat AND helps my throat feel better!

Get well soon!!!
