My DH woke me up this morning to some really sad news. He went down to feed the animals and found our dog Cody dead. She wasn't ill or anything and was only 6 or 7 y/o. We adopted her from a shelter when she was about a year old and they weren't real sure how old she was. Our other dog is moping around because she doesn't have her playmate. I just feel so bad because I feel like I let Cody down. We leave for Disney in 17 days and now it will be under a cloud of sadness. I just feel really blue right now and don't even want to finish planning my trip.

:grouphug: I am so sorry for you and your family. Pets really become members of the family.

I'm so sorry to hear this. :grouphug: Unfortunately you never know with shelter dogs how old they are.
Our rescue border collie was surrendered. When the owners surrendered her they told the rescue group she was 2 years old. I took her to my vet and he told she was at least 5 years old. He said she could be as old as 10! Big range but he said based on her teeth, her joints (she had arthritis) and other issues that she was not the 2 yo they said she was. Why someone would lie I don't know, but unfortunately they do.

:grouphug: Pets really are part of the family, sorry for the loss of your loved on

Oh, I'm so sorry. It's so hard when it happens suddenly. I'm sure your other dog will perk up soon. Maybe there was something undetected, like a heart ailment or something. Maybe she wanted to die at home. As hard as it is going away after this happening, can you imagine if it happened while you were away? I'm sending you hugs.

Liz

The loss of part of your family is very painful & my heart aches for you.

I bet you gave her a wonderful life........I would call your vet about your other dog, it is such an adjustment for them as well. See what they suggest you do.
When we had to put one of our dogs down several years ago, we waited about 2 weeks and brought a puppy home not just for us but for the pain my other dog was in.....

I'm so sorry your your family.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry for you, I'm sure it was quite a shock for your family.
I hope you'll consider gettin' another playmate for your other dog
'n pay her some extra attention during this time, maybe that will help
the whole family feel better soon. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am sending you hugs - I know how hard it is to deal with the death of a pet - they really are an important part of our families. Don't feel like you let her down - I am sure she was greatful for the wonderful time she had with your family - you did a wonderful thing by rescuing her and I am sure she knew it. I know it seems hard now but I think the Disney trip will do alot of good - it will give you something to look forward to and also its in enough time that your other dog should stop moping around - I believe they also feel sadness or confusion that the other one isn't around anymore but I think they also can detect your sadness.

Thank you all for the words of comfort. I do not know about another puppy yet but we still have 3 cats for Nikki to play with so maybe that will help her. It is hard because it was so sudden and I hate leaving the other one alone for our trip but my kids will all come by and keep her company every day. Thanks again for the hugs, Dis friends are the best.

As a dog lover myself, I understand your family's pain and am sorry for your loss. Hopefully your upcoming trip will bring some much-needed happiness during this time.

 Im sorry I know that the loss of a furry friend can be just as hard as a two legged one.
