We are thinking of staying both at Port the night before and the airport the night after the cruise. Has anyone had any luck with Priceline in these areas and did the priceline hotels have a shuttle to the port and the airport? Also what is the going priceline rate for September?

Thanks again..

I have too many days ahead of me to keep obsessing over this trip in September 2005!! This is going to be a LONG wait! I haven't even gotten to the excursions yet!

I just pricelined for my pre-cruise hotel and I am scared. I got Holiday Inn Oceanfront- Cocoa Beach for $40. I put in 3 * (3* supposed to be resort level hotel)and bid $40. I got it for $40 +$10 priceline fee.
After checking around have seen many extremely bad reviews on the hotel and a few good reviews.
biddingfortravel.com can help take some of the mystery out of using priceline or hotwire.
Good Luck!

Thanks! I stayed up late lastnight looking at that site! Good Luck with your stay!! It almost looks like we're better off staying at the airport both times.. before & after.

In February we used Priceline and got the DoubleTree Resort om Cocoa Beach for only 39.00 per night. It was a great hotel...very clean and the rooms had a fridge and micowave with nice view of the Atlantic. This hotel is right on the beach. I think I also put in for a 3 star property.

We always rent a car from the airport the day before our cruise and return it to the Cocoa Beach area the morning of the cruise. We have used both Avis and Budget.

Priceline is usually excellent, but you have to do some research because some awful hotels creep in. We used to bid one level below the highest for airport hotels and got some really good ones dirt cheap. Then we ended up with the LaQuinta on Daetwyler Drive twice, and both times it was a miserable dump. Now we only bid at the highest level, which usually gives us the Marriott and occasionally the Renaissance or Holiday Inn Select. I wish I could bid one level down and save a few bucks, but it's not worth the chance of the LaQuinta (not to be confused with the LaQuinta Suites, which is the same level but very nice). Oh well, we still can usually snap something for $28.
The airport hotels all have free shuttles, and most are very prompt although the Marriott's can tend to be crowded. The only airport shuttle we ever had a problem with was the Courtyard (more than an hour!!!), and we didn't even get it through Priceline. 15 to 20 minutes, and sometimes even less, is more the norm.

I got the Doubletree on the beach in Cocoa Beach for $39 through Priceline. We will be renting a car from Budget from the airport so I don't know if they have a shuttle, but you can probably check their website or call their 800# and ask just to be sure.

NYDisneyMom, when did you place your bid on PL, and when are you travelling? I am looking for a hotel in the Cocoa Beach area for 5 nights in June (DD going to spacd camp at KSC!) and DoubleTree looks perfect, but pricey!

I just checked the print out of my reservation but there's no date on there from when I booked. I think it was very end of February or early March for our May 14th arrival. I also booked one night at the Orlando World Gate Resort for the night after our cruise ends, got that for less than $40 also on PL. :)

When securing a room through Priceline/Hotwire, how do you guarantee that you'll have two beds in your room? I ask because we're a family of four, so we need two queen beds- one for DH and me, one for DS and my mother in law. I was considering using priceline until I saw that they couldn't guarantee number of beds.

After you make your reservation you call the hotel and request a two queen bed room. :)

I booked 2 rooms thru priceline at a resort for after our cruise. I called the resort 2 times before my trip to request 2 beds in each room. I was assured that even if we got the King size bed that most of those rooms have a sofa bed in them.

Well first of all the 2 rooms were not near each other. One had an inside balcony and ours had an outside balcony. Neither room would I have felt leaving the teen boys and their brothers in without an adult. We were just too far to hear if something was going on.

I got to my room, down the hall and around the corner..it was a HUGE place. NO sofa bed. Now I like togetherness , but 4 people in a king bed was too much for me.

I called the desk and they were very quick to bring a roll away bed to both rooms. They also were quick to bring extra towels.
I was disapointed, but I knew this could happen. I tried to call ahead and it did not work for me. Most hotels do not guarantee bed preference even if you pay full price. I guess if we had checked in earlier we may have had a better shot at getting what we requested. I had even called them that day asking them to save me 2 rooms with 2 queen beds in each. They would not do it until check in.
So if you go into it with the idea that your preference MIGHT not be honored you won't be dissapointed.

The renassaince Orlando is where we stayed....Resort quality and I paid $70 for each room. The rack rate was listed as $279-$2000 a night for this hotel. During spring break I am sure the rates were up there. Even though things weren't perfect they worked out. I think I got a gtreat deal on Priceline

Have fun..Melissa

I bid for our February vacation in October. I was lucky to get the room I did, since the weekend we were going to Tampa, was the Gasparilla celebration and 100 yr anniversary. THAT time I had no problem getting requested beds, checked in at 3 pm though.

I see no reason to wait. If you do, all good rooms will be snapped up.

Go to biddingfortravel.com to find out the current Priceline hotels and the going rates for MCO. This is great for car rental info as well.

None of the hotels near the port have shuttle service to the airport. It is almost a 50 mile drive. Some of the hotels near the port have a shuttle to the cruise terminal. Most of the hotels near the airport have shuttle service to their hotel.
