I'm not going to get grief about this, am I?

I made reservations online yesterday, but to get the dates I need I had to book three weeks. (Oh, how I wish I could stay 3 weeks, but it's not going to happen.) When I call to change our arrival date and drop off the first 2 weeks, they aren't going to give me a lot of grief, are they? I've heard of people doing this and I'm hoping it's a painless process.

Grief from some people on the boards? Quite possibly, almost assuredly.

You're freeing up the dates at some point so that someone else can use them, so I don't see a problem with this. It's not like you are reserving a 'throw-away' campsite or anything that prevents someone from coming to the Fort if they want to.

I do this all the time.

Today, I booked 8 nights in December in order to get one 3 day weekend. Tomorrow, I will call and cancel the 5 nights I don't need.

I had to book 3 weeks in January to get the 3 nights I wanted.

Normally, you have to expand your dates in order to get the dates you want. And, most of the reps at CRO don't know how to play this game, or aren't allowed to do it. I don't know which.

Disney created this insanely stupid reservation system. I just play the game by their rules.

I think what you will see is Disney starting to impose a cancelation fee for people who book mutible days and then cancel at the last minute, The way Disney operates it's all about the dollars and after all they are a company watching the bottom line. Just a matter of time before they catch on and put a stop to it, but enjoy while you can as I think the days of this is coming to a end. Just my 2 cents! and enjoy your trip K.

Disney does keep your deposit if you cancel your trip less than 5 days before check in. What you fail to realize is that in order to get the days you want, 99% of the time you have to expand the dates in the reservation system.

I wanted 12/9 to 12/12. When I plugged in those dates....nothing available at the Fort. So I started adding days to the ressie system. When I expanded to include 12/7 to 12/15, a miracle happened!!! I all of a sudden could book a site!! So tell me....why all of a sudden did an opening occur that included my preferred dates? It remains a mystery.

Disney has some major work to do to their reservation system. This has happened for as long as they've had on-line reservations available. They would see a huge drop in guests if they started charging to modify a reservation due to the fact their own on-line system is screwy.

If Disney is going to stop the overbooking of sites kskone, then they need to unblock every weekend. People cannot book for just the weekends anymore. This is the main reason everyone overbooks in the first place.

Back in September I had to book 10 days just to get the ONE Saturday I needed in November.

I booked the 10 days one afternoon and called that night to cancel the 9 I didn't need.

I just think like every thing else the big "D" does it's all about the money and I think you will start to see changes one way or the other good or bad to the reservation system, I can only hope it will improve so people get the days they need or want when they make the phone call. I for one never have a problem getting the days I need as we do stay for a couple of months at a time. No, you didn't upset me in any way, nor am I disagreeing with what you said. I will disagree with Disney if they make any attempt to do this without fixing their own system, first. On average, we spend about 45-50 nights a year at the Fort, and have for years. If some chowder-head figures out that this is a way for Disney to rip-off guests, they will get 0 days a year from me. In addition to multiple Fort trips each year, we also go to a park or to DTD at least once a week, so I would no longer purchase annual passes, and there will be none of the ancillary spending that accompanies each visit - day trip or Fort trip. I doubt I would be alone in that thinking.

I gave up writing letters & e-mails complaining about the reservation system. I've had problems with CRO before the on-line ressie system & with the on-line ressie system, itself. The "suits" that make these decisions either don't care or don't want to care.

No apologies necessary! I don't think anyone disagrees that Disney will make changes that benefit THEM first and foremost.

Really would be a shame if they started penalizing people who've managed to find a way to make their broken reservation system actually work.

But I won't be surprised if they do.

If it came off as I was upset at you, no, not at all. I was just pointing out that they (Disney) have blocked out every single weekend to locals with the intent on getting larger bookings. With their system the way it is, they have encouraged this sort of behavior IMHO. It was not really a dig at you, just a mention of your name because you were the one that posted that you thought Disney would change it. You very well may be right, however, in order to do that, they will have to unlock the weekends, which I highly doubt they will do. It looks good on paper to have the extended bookings, even if they are temporary. If you stay at the Fort for any length of time (past a week) and get to see the week verses the weekend, you will see my exact point. The weekdays are dead and the weekends are packed. I am with Deb on this one, if they stop me from making my reservations like I would like them (canceling what I don't want) then my business with them will go way down as well. As a local, that is a lot of business.

When we go to the fort like I said we stay for a couple months and you are right monday to friday afternoon is very slow with a lot of sites open but on the weekends the place is very busy the only time this does not apply is holidays or vacation weeks, in fact we like the weekend crowds the people watching is at it's prime then and alot of goings on as well as we don't go to the parks any more we do day trips to places and towns we have never been to or had the time to do when our daughter was with us. K.
