"I'm not going on Scream Scraper."

Talking with my nine year old son this morning about our upcoming Disney trip. He's not a thrill seeker/roller coaster person. We have been negotiating which rides we will go on. He's willing to give Barnstormer another go (rode 2 years ago and didn't really like it) and even said he would try Big Thunder Mountain (!!! First time he's even said he would try it!). Then, he says, "I'm not going on the Scream Scraper though. Don't even try it."

After a few questions, I figured out what he meant...Tower of Terror. LOL. I'm afraid of heights, so ToT is not on my list, and I assured him he didn't have to ride it. His name for it made me laugh, though, so I thought I would share. :):)

Yes, cute. Tower of Terror is an interesting experience. I went on it last year, and took my wife and daughters (8 and 11). They are mild coaster riders (like most of Disney's), and like spiny rides. My 8 year old was getting more and more nervous, and nearly flipped out. She got on the ride and after we were done said... nope, no never again. I was afraid I scared her to the point where she wouldn't trust me on another ride again. But she bounced well, and we managed to get her on just about everything else.

I went on Scream Scraper once. Spring Break, 1999. Never again. Bought the t-shirt in the gift shop after the ride. Still wear it (that shirt is the most well-crafted shirt ever made) 16 years later.

That is adorable. I rode "scream scraper" too several years ago, never again! I hate the "drop" rides but am fine with coasters. DH and DD 5 are planning to ride it when we go next month...I am kind of hoping DD chickens out but she seems pretty determined to ride it. She may change her mind when she sees it in real life and not just on the TV.

My favorite ride!!!!!! Though my college roomie is scared of drops like that, so I finally convinced her (after 13 years!) to ride it if I ate the escargot at the F&W fest.....I don't think either of us want to experience our respective "new experiences" again.....

Weirdly I hate drop rides (I've never done Dr Doom at Universal) but Tower of Terror is my favourite ride ever, just doesn't really feel like a drop ride.

That's because it's not. It pulls you rather than drops you. (Which means you go down faster than the drop rides)
I, too, hate dropping rides like Doom, but like Scream Scraper. Which is my new favorite wrong name for a ride and I might use it always. :)

Love that name. I'm going to text it to my 19 year old son. He's willing to ride it when we go in December. He's never even considered it before. (He won't do RnR though.) I talked him into going on The Mummy at "the other park" when he was 16. Upon take off he screamed, "Oh my God mother, what have you done to me?" and proceeded to scream the rest of the ride. Funny thing is, he's got his pilots license now so you wouldn't think he'd be afraid to do rides. :rotfl2:I can't wait to do Scream Scaper with him! Thanks for posting that and giving me a good laugh.

Love it!!! I rode the "Screamer Scraper" this past summer with my DS, DIL, and two granddaughters. GD#2 wanted to ride, GD#1 went along ... she got off it again (rode it first in 2012) and said "never again" ... the same thing she said the first two times.

I don't like being dropped (or pulled down), but I can tolerate this ride b/c it doesn't spin or jerk me around.

Am thinking this would be a cute title for a scrapbook page ...

DS3 called it the "up and down".

He kept telling us he wanted to go on it last week so we let him. There was another little boy in the row behind him and I swear that little boy was the only thing that kept my son from losing it after the ride was over. He was all smiles and my son was about to start crying but we showed him how happy the other kid was and they had a bonding moment when they got off.

I'd be hesitant to let him ride it again for a few years even if he wanted to because the whole rest of the day every other ride seemed to have him on edge(even the tame ones).

Tower of Terror was my guess from the title, we still haven't tried it and don't want to

I was a 'Scream Scraper' chicken until this summer! I had ridden it a couple of times before but always worked myself up into an anxiety attack by the time it was over. This year I said I was going to concur that sucker and I did! Rode it 3 times this trip and had a blast!!

My absolute favorite ride at WDW bar none. We took our DS4 on it this September for the first time. When we got off all he said was "that ride really scared me." He said something similar the second and third times he rode it too:)

I'm not a coaster guy or really anything "extreme", but TOT is sooooo much fun and the theming is incredible. It may sound funny, but TOT isn't jerky at all, it's very smooth. I also think the fear of big drops is somewhat mitigated by the fact that you can't see your surroundings for more than a few seconds at at time, and only when the elevator near the very top.

My all time favorite ride. You just gotta relax and go with it. Totally freeing and exhilarating. Scream scraper will now be my name for the ride :) Perfect!!!

one of grandsons favorite ride, rode it as a 4 year old did not get the story but loved the bounce as he called it.

Very cute name for ToT! I had the best ride I'd ever had this past week on it. It was at night after the second showing of Fantasmic. The CM's working there were really into it which made it awesome and then when we got in the ride, somehow my seatbelt wasn't very tight over my waist I guess. My feet left the floor and my butt left my seat every time we dropped... combined with the darkness it felt like I was floating down the elevator shaft unable to see anything... yeah, a nightmare description to some but to me it was so AWESOME! They dropped us quite a few times from different heights too and you could never tell when you'd keep going up or suddenly drop. It was well worth the 30 minutes we waited in line that night!

We have returned from our trip, which was awesome, and I felt like I needed to update this thread. Apparently, I took someone else's child on vacation, because my non-thrill ride son was nowhere to be found. He must have packed his big boy pants for this trip, because he rode, multiple times:
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Space Mountain
7DMT (including in the dark)
Harry Potter Escape from Gringotts (Universal)
Revenge of the Mummy (Universal)

During our HS day, he saw TOT and actually wanted to go on it! I couldn't believe it. I told him that he could go on it...but he would have to go by himself. He wasn't so keen on that. I guess for our next WDW trip, I'm going to need to take a shot of his courage!

We spent our departure morning at Hollywood Studios. My husband rode ToT twice before DD4 decided she wanted to check it out- she enjoys rollercoasters and spooky rides like HM. I couldn't ride because I'm pregnant, so off they went. They made it to the basement and were just about to get on the elevator when she got upset and freaked. Out they went! She's decided she's riding "scream scraper" next trip. When she's 6. We'll see!!!!
