We recently switched over from POFQ, King room to the Contemporary in a Standard view room (just couldn't pass up the free food). Now with all I am reading about the rennovations do you think that we made a mistake? :confused3 Also do you think I should spend the extra money for a garden view. I have stayed at the Contemporary before but we always stayed in the Tower. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also is it me or is anyone else that is on the free dining plan having trouble making Priority Seating reservations? The first thing I am asked when I called is "are you on the dining plan"? Do you think they are limiting the number of reservations for the free dining or do you think I am being paranoid?

Has anyone recently stayed in the Standard view rooms? Any thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.

We stayed there in Dec. We really liked the Contemporary. We stayed in the north wing. We had a view of the parking lot, but we also could see the Castle at night and Wishes. We would definately stay there. It was so convenient to be able to walk to the MK.

I stayed at the Contemporary last week. had a north wing room. But i was in the tower often. They are refurbing the 10 th floor. It is curtained off. I could hear some noise but not alot. I dont think you will be bothered by noise from the rehab if you stay in a tower room. I dont think they work on the rooms after 5 pm anyway. You could stay in the north wing. It is just a hop, skip and ajump from the tower. There is a side door of the north wing that goes directly into the food and fun cenetr in the tower.

We just got back from CR 3 weeks ago. I know that rehab is being done in the South Wing but as long as we were there I would have never known it. Everything seemed very peaceful. We were very happy with the CR! Being that close to MK was awesome and views of the fireworks from various places at the resort were also great. We actually watched them from the parking lot of the North Tower. Our room (8106) was standard and we were in a prime location. We didn't have to pay for a water view but all we had to do was walk out the patio doors and have a great view of the marina and Bay Lake.

Thanks everyone for the information, you made me feel a lot better.

When we stayed at the CR we were booked in a standard room. I had requested the North Wing and when we arrived they said we could have either the standard room in the NW with a front parking lot view or we could have an upgraded garden room in the South Wing. We decided to take the SW room since it was a free upgrade :teeth: (we'd been spoiled the previoius trip by being upgraded from a tower room at the CR to the Poly in a Lagoon View Concierge room :cloud9: ).

I wish we had kept the parking lot room in the NW as it would have been just as Going Broke described it above. We would have been able to see the monorail, the fireworks, etc and had a shorter walk to the MK in the heat with our two 5 yr olds. Some would have loved our SW room as it was incredibly quiet and overlooked the canal between Bay Lake and the SSL. But we prefer to sit outside after the kids go to sleep - people and activity watching - so the standard room would have been better for us. It was way too quiet where we were; we were practically the only ones out there! :confused3 Live and learn.

The SOG renovation was going on at the time and military guests were being placed in the NW (which is also why we were bumped out the previous year). There was a bit of subtle pressure to take the SW room. I will say we had no problems with the room at all, in fact liked it a lot - it was huge! We sure did miss the food and goodies from the concierge area, though - going back to cold Pop Tarts in the morning was disappointing indeed. :rotfl:

when a wing is under rehab, means less guests and more room in the pools, game room, etc. enjoy...

When you said "upgrade" to SG wing room, does that mean you got a renovated room, or just meaning an upgrade from your original res. of a north wing std.?

We stayed in a North Garden Wing room. I wish I would have gone with the Standard View to save a view dollars and possibly had a view of the fireworks. The ideal room to me is to have a North Wing room on the lower level and be fairly close to the tower. I would hate to be in the rooms furtherest away from the tower. The ground level floors have patios and the upper level wing rooms don't have balconies. I'd probably pay the extra for a garden room if that was the only way to get a patio. The standard view rooms do have a grassy area in front of them, so if you can get a patio there stick with the standard view.

We stayed there in 2003 before the rehab of the SW. So it was just a plain old upgrade from a standard wing to a garden wing room. (The renovation I referred to was for Shades of Green, the on site resort for military personnel).

OT, but someone posted a picture of what the CR rooms will look after the rehab and they were beautiful (the "tacky" look was gone).

Well I made up my mind today and decided to switch back to the POFQ King room, it is saving me $635.00 and I don't have to worry about construction. :flower:

Since it is just my husband and I going this time, not being on the monorail is not a big deal, I just preferred it.

I really appreciate all your imput.
