I'm making these (not ) RIGHT NOW for a party....want one? Picture inside.

I don't have a double boiler. Any suggestions?

I purchased melting chocolates from the grocery store in little containers that go directly in the microwave. It was really easy. I found them in the baking isle. The had milk chocolate, white chocolate and dark chocolate.

I made a batch the other day. They are really good, but extremely rich!

No big deal... get a pot with water. Turn it on... place chocolate in another heat safe bowl on top of the pot. Voila! Double boiler.

Just be careful that no steam gets to the chocolate. It will cause it to seize. Water and chocolate are not friends!

This is a great recipe- I am going to make it for the holidays for my family and I'll post back!

Thank you, Papa Deuce.

What's the best kind of chocolate to use for the dipping: semi sweet, milk chocolate, or other?

I'm actually mixing the milk chocolate with dark chocolate... you know, so it gets even MORE CHOCOLATY! :thumbsup2

Don't mix the dark and the milk chocolate together. If you want to dip them in milk chocolate first, let excess drain off and dry and then re dip in dark chocolate.
The milk and the dark will not blend together well if you combine the 2 chocolates.

Too late... this post was from 2006. ;)

I just made two batches, mint and plain. What I do is mix semi-sweet and Hershey's Special dark chips to use as the dip. On the mint ones, I use Andes Peppermint Chips on top. ;)

These were amazing:lovestruc ~ I used almond bark to coat them and unfortunately DID NOT have solid shortning to thin the chocolate out so the coating hardened a bit quickly...still amazing though.
Thumbs up PAPA DEUCE!!:worship:

Glad you enjoyed, but I just happened to find the recipe on the internet, I think.

Just thought this deserved a bump w/the holidays coming up. They are phenomenal and got rave reviews when I made them.

Just make sure you use BAKING/MELTING chocolate! I made the mistake of using chocolate chips the first time; oh my, huge mistake.

We've made these and they are sooooo good! Enjoy :thumbsup2

Really? I've made them several times with chocolate chips. I just add some milk to them to thin it down a bit.

Thanks for bumping this. It's a new family favorite and I took some for my niece and sister at Thanksgiving to take home. When asked what she wanted for dessert, my four year old great niece announced, "Donuts." As we teased her about the traditional Thanksgiving donuts, it dawned on me that the truffles look kind of like donut holes. :lmao: Yep, no pie for her but an Oreo truffle for each hand!

Those look good! I make something similar at xmas time too. Its cookie dough truffles. Cookie dough in the middle with dipped choc. on the outside. The dough is made with mini choc. chips, sweetened condensed milk, sugar, flour and chopped nuts if you like. No eggs. They are soooo good! Tastes just like raw cookie dough.
Let me know if anyone wants the recipe.
