Never before in my life have I stood in front of a group of cameras and actually picked up an SLR.

Well, last night I found myself playing with a Rebel and saying to DH (gasp), "this'll be the next camera I buy". :scared1:

It's all your fault!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You are also very predictable. I knew what your post was before opening it. They kind of suck you in, eh? Once you get past lens evy you hit the lens buying frenzy. But at least it is good exercise hauling the setup around the parks. Don't forget the tripod.

MIkeeee

ha ha Mikeeee... heck, I just got the S3!

Well I guess I could manage a tripod or lens but I can assure you I'll never be pulling a "Groucho" around the parks! :rotfl:

You'd love a Rebel. And all you would really need is the kit lens. Well, you'll probably want to add a longer range lens as well. And you may as well get a wider angle lens too. Of course, you'll want to shoot in low light, so you'll want some high speed primes. But primes can be such a nuisance, so you'll want to replace those zoom lenses with high speed zooms. With IS of course. And don't forget an external flash because the built in one doesn't bounce. You won't need to flash as much if you by a tripod too. Of course, you don't always need a tripod, so getting a monopod would be good. And a good shoulder bag to carry all of this stuff would be nice. Obviously, if you've got all this stuff, you'll need more memory cards and batteries. And you'll want Photoshop Elements. Although once you'ved used it for a while, you'll see the need to upgrade to Photoshop CS3. Of course, you'll want a better computer for that. And a new monitor. And something to calibrate your monitor with. Once you've finally gotten that done, you'll need a better printer. Did I mention the remote shutter release, the polarizing filters, the neutral density filters, the lens hoods, and the extenion tubes? You can probably get by for a while without those.

That would be funny if it weren't biographical! :goodvibes

Mark - have you been secretly spying on my household since I got my Rebel XTi? My 1K camera purchase has become a 3K must need addiction in just a month. From the lenses to the bags to the tripods and the extra 2 gigs of memory so I can process the photos on my pc without it locking up on me - that l just need a few more lenses disease - and flash and more memory cards and another battery.

You are right on the mark (whoops no pun intended - honest) with what you said.

Pea-n-Me - Mark is 100% correct. You will love a Rebel. I love mine and I have only had it for a month. So much to learn but it is a lot of fun learning it. Just be ready for all the additional "items" you will be constantly "needing" and wanting. It can be quite the sticker shock.

:lmao:... oh wait I just started a thread afew days ago about upgradin and only had my rebel since june:blush: :bitelip:

Anybody else thinking about the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" book? ;)

I believe you forgot to mention a way to carry and/or store all this equipment. But I believe there is another thread to find the "perfect" camera bag. :lmao:

Oh my. :scared:

Maybe I'll just live vicariously through you guys for a while. :rolleyes1

to late... if you picked it up, you've already gone over to the darkside:upsidedow
LOL, Jan. I literally just picked it up as in "held it" (not bought it :lmao: ) - I haven't gone to the dark side yet!

Give me a few months...

That's all it takes! Welcome, you are 1/2 over to the dark side!

What do you think guys/gals? 3 weeks?:rotfl2:

Buying the S3/S2 and similar cameras is also what starts it. People find out their abilities were being held back by the equipment.

LOL, I bought the S3 in May and what do I have now? The K100!! And so far I've managed to justify keeping my S3 rather than selling it.:)

Can you use an old Canon lens with a new digital Rebel??

It depends on how old the lens is. If it was for any Canon DSLR, it will work. If it was for an EOS series film camera, it will work. Those lenses have an EF mount. Some of the compatible film cameras include the Rebel and Elan series. Incompatible cameras include the AE1. I think all the autofocus ones will work and most of the manual focus ones will not.

Hey, I resemble that comment!

I recommend having a kid and bringing a stroller with a fair amount of space underneath. During the day, the tripod (or monopod) goes in there and if we're doing a lot of wandering, the camera bag slings over the handle.

I'm not sure how well I'd deal with carrying a tripod all day by myself. I'd have to look for a tall locker, I guess (though I hate that thought, and walking back and forth to it), or just having special "tripod nights". It's not so much the weight as the bulkiness.

The camera bag itself really isn't too bad, even with two bodies and five lenses in it - I think the Op/Tech SOS strap must really be helping.

Note to self: add kid to Mark's list.
