So, DD received her summer reading assignments last week and so far I've finished one book and started the second one
, both of which are really good! The first, "The Giver", examines the theme of Utopia by way of a 12 year old boy. The second is part of a twin set, "The Dead and the Gone" and "Life As we Knew It". She is reading the first one which is in the perspective of a 17 year old boy in NYC (the second being the same events from the perspective of a young girl in a small town) living an apocalyptic event (not sure what because I just started reading it). I love these choices!
So, what were your kids assigned? Do you read the books too? (I only do if they look really interesting, lol).

I read Story Of A Girl by Sara Zarr. It was a very easy read. I love reading about teenage pregnancies/sex encounters. It's so interesting to see how the character deals with them.
