I'm leaving early tomorrow morining. Fast pass question

Hello all again.

I leave for my flight tomorrow and I'm so excited. I have read continuously for the past few months but one thing I forgot to look up is the Fast Passes. Can somebody explain how they work? Do you pay for them? Can all 4 of us get one and ride together?

You don't have to pay for them!! You insert your entrance ticket into the fast pass machine and it spits out a FP. On the FP is a return time window of 1 hour. You can use the FP any time after the first time expires up until closing on the same day. For instance, if you get a fast pass for Space in the morning and it says return time is 11:15 to 12:15, you can use it at 11:15 (but not before) or you can save it for later (which we love to do).

Fast Passes are free. Just go to rides offering a Fast Pass and look for the Fast Pass distribution machines nearby. Insert your ticket or Annual Pass and the machine will spit out a Fast Pass for the ride.

The ticket will have a window of time for you to return. Ie: Return between 2PM and 3:15PM.

You can only get a certain number of Fast Passes within a given amount of time. The ticket will also tell you when you are able to get another Fast Pass.

A good trick is to send one person ahead with all your tickets to get Fast Passes for everyone while you and the other members of your party do something else.

Technically fastpasses are to be used by end of day. However it is possible to use ones that are way past expiration. It is an abuse of the system and not recommended. Disney allows people to use fastpasses the same day, grace type of thing.

This is not supposed to happen. Occasionally it works but usually when a ride is broken down the previous day after you get your FP. IE, we had FP for Indy but it broke down in the afternoon and came back up, we mentioned our FPs to the CM there and she told us we could "try" to use them the following day if we let them know the ride was down after 2 pm. Our return time was 3 or thereabouts so we never had the chance to ride. We did as she suggested and the CM did let us on but it was early morning and the lines were short.

I made sure to point out to the CM that my fast passes were from previous days and was always waved through... we have not typically used fast pass as we had always gone off season and my son is disabled so the long lines didnt tend to be a problem so we were not as educated on fast pass use as most....I was just stating that we had been able to use ours for several days after pointing out they were from a different day and didn't have a problem..... Just to clarify we are not rule breakers....I want to have the best possible exp. and so the old adage do unto others is always fresh in my mind.....

Merchantlady...I have noticed a few posts where you have been a bit harsh... to insinuate that I "ABUSED" a policy is a bit much don't you think...
It has always been friendly here and I am sorry to see that is changing...

I have to respectfully disagree, nothing said here was harsh or rude. We were simply addressing what you said. CMs are not supposed to allow FP use from expired (as in days before) FPs. How was that harsh or rude? NO one bashed you, we just gave our opinion/experience to what you said. Unfortunately this is a public board, anytime anyone posts anything they open themselves up to perceived bashing or rudeness. I am sorry you felt "bashed" but that is simply not the case here. At least speaking for myself, I cannot speak for mechurchlady of course. Hopefully you won't continue to lurk but will participate in future discussion or ask questions, but it is your choice of course.

Pixie I wasn't refering to you. ME stated that I was "abusing" policy which I was not so that is where I took offense it was in no way directed at you!!! And as I stated I had noticed some harsh reply's from ME in past posts...Thats where I was coming from!!!

Thank You for clarifying. I kept rereading what I'd said and couldn't figure out what I'd said to upset you. I think I was confused because you mistyped Laurie's screen name, I couldn't figure out who merchantlady was....LOL What can I say, I was hungry so my brain cells weren't working quite right. lol
