I'm jumping on the bandwagon late but - have YOU seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding?"

I know I'm obviously late to jump on this bandwagon - as it has been one of the most popular movies in the country for quite sometime, mostly advertised ONLY by word of mouth...

We saw this movie yesterday. DH thought it looked like a "chick flick" and refused to go until one of his buddies told him that it was, indeed, hilarious, although it bordered on being a "chick flick."

It was simply one of the best times I've had at the movies in a long time! It's cute, funny, innocent, and moving, all at once. There are some amazing people in the cast (several of whom came from "Second City.")

If by some miracle you've NOT seen it, I highly recommend it!

yep we have it at my theater and it is still selling out

We just saw it this weekend. Absolutely hysterical!
It's been a long time since I openly laughed at a movie.

Yep, and loved it. I am Greek and grew up about an hour from Chicago. It was like a family reunion for me.

I guess I am just very lucky because when I saw it I thought that it was only mildly humorous. I am of mixed ethnicity and I thought that that is just the way families are suppose to be. My daughter and I both came out of the theater and said we found several characters that were from our family. It is a blessing to be loved so much and by so many right. I am mostly Polish so I am assuming that the parts I found so much like my family were the Polish side.

I am waiting to see the movie this coming weekend with my dd who's coming home from college.

can't wait.

Herc.

My husband and I saw this movie when it first came out. We hadn't heard much about it, I'm not sure how we happened to go see it that weekend. We both thought it was great! Everyone I know who has seen it, thinks it's great!
The Windex...the spitting...the lawn ornaments!!

I haven't read it yet but there's a big story about it in this week's "Entertainment Weekly."

I loved this movie so much, I went to see it again last Friday, first show of the day. I was surprised to see how many people were in the theater, considering most people are working at that time! It's just nice to see a wholesome movie with a relatable story and characters.

Who knew that "Windex cures everything!"??;)

montessori

Actually, it's not spitting, its a blessing with saliva:teeth:

I, too, loved this movie. It reminded me so much of my own warm family, although not Greek. We had so many similar moments and things I could relate to. My friends and I went together and we laughed out loud for most of the time and cried at the end together. Highly recommend it!

My DH and I just saw this on Sat. night and I have to say I haven't laughed liked that in a long time....very enjoyable movie....just fun and lighthearted...2 thumbs up here!

Holycow

My parents saw it, and said it was hilarious. I wouldn't mind going to see it, but I'm not about to jump into a theater to watch it.

It was . . . OK.

I saw it on the plane coming back from China, and I gotta agree with Disneydenise.

While it is great that this nice little independent movie, made on a shoestring, is going to be the biggest grossing indie flick ($140 milllion), it's not exactly landmark cinema. Cute little romantic comedy, but very predictable plot. And like Disneydenise says, the theme could apply to any number of ethnic groups (Greek, Polish, Jewish, Chinese, etc., etc.).

I think it would be a fine movie to rent, but I wouldn't pay to see it in the theater. JMHO, of course.

I finally saw it today. I was out and about and had some time to kill. It was a choice between that and Goldmember, and MBFGW started ten minutes sooner. I have to admit I liked it. I could probably sit through it again if a friend wanted to see it. Now I'm craving Ouzo :teeth:

We saw it Friday and Saturday. It was hilarious, but also very sweet. The woman who wrote it and stars at Tula has been getting lots of marriage proposals, but she's been married for 10 years to the actor who played the groom's best friend. You might also recognize her DH from the Drew Carey Show. She was even on Drew Carey once. :)

I must be missing something because I saw it last week and, although it was funny (not hilarious), I wouldn't call it a great movie. From all the hype, I was expecting to be ROTFLMAS, not chuckling at a few scenes...I don't know... Now, my idea of a funny movie is...let's see...Animal House...There's Something About Mary (pork or beans lol)...I guess I'm just warped! :D

Dopey Sharon, I don't think that it is that we have warped senses of humor although I think I do. I think that it is that our families are maybe alot like that and so its not as funny to us because that is the way families are. So maybe its our warped up bringing... Oh well you have to come from somewhere.
