Someone accidentally took part in remote court proceedings with the Zoom kitten filter on.

This is actually from the 394th District Court of Texas from live proceedings done remotely. There's a warning about any recording of this being subject to contempt of court, but I don't know if they can really enforce it. Obviously I would think this is fair use, and the court specifically placed this clip in their archive for entertainment purposes.

A Texas judge issued an "important Zoom tip" after a lawyer used a cat filter during a virtual hearing.
Judge Roy Ferguson tweeted about a recent incident when lawyer Rod Ponton showed up to present a case in Texas' 394th District Court with the filter of a cute kitten on.
"I don't know how to remove it," Ponton said in a clip of the live stream that the court shared on YouTube titled Kitten Zoom Filter Mishap. "I'm here live, I'm not a cat."

Court hearings by Zoom have definitely been interesting. So far not that kind of interesting here, but I'm sure most courts have stuff they've been nervous would go viral.

The court released the footage and the Judge was tweeting about it.

We are only doing Zoom hearings here. Courts will not have in person hearings until at least March. My Zoom appearances haven’t been nearly as entertaining as this one.

I have to sit in on a lot of hearings where I work. I haven't had anything this funny but one time mid hearing an atty was having a conversation with someone not realizing she was not muted. then as she realized she wasn't muted she let out a really loud f bomb. I died laughing.

NYS uses Teams. If you are on your phone, gallery view is not an option. Many attorneys join the call and don't realize their camera is on. In one instance, I was making my argument and had to take a long pause (much like the judge in the kitten filter case) because an attorney rotated his phone and the screen was just a close up of a beer can. I had to pause and take a deep breath to stop myself from laughing. Once my case was finished, the attorney on the other side sent a text saying "I definitely didn't see a beer can." He knew exactly why I stopped talking.

The one thing they didn't seem to figure out was maybe just turning off the video and going audio only. It wasn't with Zoom, but a month or so ago I had a video meeting where it just didn't work with video on. Everything got choppy including the audio. So we turned off our video on both sides and we could talk to each other just fine. And this was just two people on the call.

However, it feels way different than when I first used video conferencing over 20 years ago. Back then it was always specialized equipment (Polycom usually) on both ends and a specialized connection.

^ Maybe because it was a court proceeding they couldn't turn off the video? Speaking of, I'm amazed this got out at all - being a court proceeding.
