I'm going to have to face reality- VMK not working(since 2006)

ok, lets take a breath here everyone, some of your suggestions are correct, but reasonings wrong. MacAfee is probablyu the issue.

Now here is why:

You did not turn it off when installing Shockwave. MacAfee and Norton both consider ANY program to be hostile and they really mess with installs. MacAfee/Norton is also about the weakest virus protection you could have on your computer besides having nothing. Top that off with the fact that MacAfee uses a minimum of 20% of your system resources, and you might as well just use your PC to keep paper from flying away.

Step 1:
REMOVE MACAFEE/NORTON - I cannot stress this enough, Macafee/Norton is the worst possible virus and security software on the market to date. They have been causing problems since Windows 3.1

Step 2: Install new, free, virus program: Try Avast! you will love it - find it on download.com

Step 3: Remove shockwave and flash

Step 4: Run a thorough scandisk and then defrag

Step 5: get a can of compressed air, open your PC and blow out all the dust inside (you will be surprised and might want to wear a dust mask)

Step 6: Reinstall Shockwave and Flash

Step 7: let us know if it works.

added after the fact: the AOL versions of MacAfee are not full versions and, except for "SpyZapper" only run when AOL is running unless you choose a full install. AOL does NOT inhibit VMK at all. I have it on every one of my PCs with no issues, I even use VMK from inside an AOL window sometimes.

Not AOL the browser, AOL the security system. It works on the entire machine, not just AOL browsers.

Here's a few new questions for you:

How much RAM do you have? (If you use XP go to: Start-Control Panel-Performance and Maintenance-System)
How fast is your processor? (the number in GHz)

I would like you to press CTRL+ALT+Delete and check the bottom to see how much CPU Usage is current and how much Commit Charge is current. Then go to Processes at the top and press on CPU twice and it should show which processes are using the most CPU and write how much and what it's name is. Then check which processes are using the most Memory by clicking Memory twice and don't forget to write how much memory the process is using and what it's name is. Post this information and hopefully it will help.

Also, remember to go to Adobe.com and get the latest shockwave. Before you try to login into vmk once again, close all windows and anything you don't need. Good luck!

My suggestion:

WAIT at least an hour to load VMK, it might a simple problem where your not giving enough time for it to load.
