if i brought a 1-GB ipod, about how many hours of podcasts would it store?

thanks!

It depends on the quality of the recording. The DIS podcast typically runs over an hour each and hit about 150 MB, so you'd be able to have 5-6 of them on a 1GB iPod.

As far as buying one goes - take a look at the Apple site. Click on Store, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Special Deals - Refurbished iPod. You'll find an 8GB iPod Nano right now for $99. Not a bad price and it carries the same warranty as a new one.

Apple doesn't make an ipod that small, do they?

I have the previos version of the Nano. For the current version, price went down, storage went up.

I have so many podcasts on my ipod, plus music. More thanI can listen to in a week. If you want to archive podcasts, store them on your computer, not the ipod.

The current Nano comes in a nice Dis geen color.

The latest roundtable is almost 81 minutes and the file size is only 32.3MB. That show is abnormally long so a 1GB iPod should hold at least 25 shows.

I don't use iTunes to download the podcast. I download the MP3 file directly from podcast.wdwinfo.com and then use iTunes to load them onto my iPod Touch or iPhone. I do this because iTunes is too finicky> Often times the podcast shows up on the website well before iTunes.

Could iTunes be really bloating up the files size by 100MB?

Sorry to have to correct you, but the average show is about 28 to 30 MB :)

You really don't need an IPod for the show, any MP3 player will do (I'm particularly fond of the Zune). However, if you are going to make such a purchase, I would strongly recommend the IPod Touch at the very least. Besides having access to the App store (some cool stuff there) you can never be too sure about what IPhone/Ipod Touch apps are going to be released in the future :cool2:

OOOOOO a hint :D

BTW I have a Ipod Touch and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Here's a link to the Applestore's section for refurbished iPods. I have bought refurbished many times with no problem. You get a year warranty, and the iPods look brand new when you get them. It's a GREAT deal. You can get an 8gig Nano for $99--that's 33% off the new price. I just bought one for my son.

Would that be soon futer or way down the road future?!? :rotfl:

My partner bought an iPod Touch a year ago. We sold it on ebay. It was too large to carry around.

We love our small iPods that easily fit in our pockets.

If you just want it for podcasts, don't overbuy.

Love, love, love my iPod Touch. It is awesome for the podcasts, movies, audio books, music, etc. I am having a challenge right now because I am so used to the iTouch that I expect to find a cellphone that works like it. I am not willing to switch to AT&T because of spotty service. So the iPhone is out for now. I am hoping the iPhone will open up to other cell providers in 2010 like it is rumored to. I bought the Nano and quickly upgraded to the iTouch just because of all the great things available on them. Good luck with your buying decision. It is wonderful to have portable podcasts!

I'll second the Apple refurbished iPods. I bought my 32gb Touch for $279, which is $100 less than retail. It's great, looked brand new, and I love it. Such a deal!

I have a iPod Classic and I love mine. It's the second one I have had...the first a 30G and then this one is a 80G. A LOT of space!!! :rotfl2: I think I have ALL of the DIS Unplugged podcast on it.....ALL OF THEM!!!
I think my next one would be a Touch however I just LOVE all the space on my classic!!

:thumbsup2

Woohoo...another Zune enthusiast! :cool1: They don't get as much hype but I absolutely love my Zune. I don't want to hijack the thread so really even the smallest of MP3 players sold now should hold hours of DIS Podcast fun for you. :thumbsup2
