Anne, if you do speak with Gary and Greg, please let them know Rosemary Durant says hello!!! I just talked to my husband and he wants me to try to get tickets. DH seems to think Gary went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers........and now on his own. Is that true?

thanks!!

I'll pass your message along. ETA--I just sent it off to Greg in an e-mail. I asked him to pass it to Gary as well--Greg is online a lot, Gary, not so much. Does that surprise you? ;)

Gary's timeline: (this is really short and sweet, and might be off a wee bit on teh dates, I'm doing it off the top of my head.)

early '80's--formed "The Dream" with drummer Paul Geary and other local musicians. (Paul Mangone is the only notable other member) They actually went on to win MTV's Basement tapes with a video of "Mutha"

1985ish--"The Dream" disbanded and Ex-Dream members Cherone and Geary teamed up with guitarist Nuno Bettencourt and bass player Pat Badger (actually there was another bass player for a few months, can't recall who right now) to become Extreme.

1989--Extreme releases self-titled debut CD on A&M

September 1990--Extreme releases "Pornografitti" as a sophmore effort. This Bob Rock produced CD goes platinum and spins off number one single "More Than Words"

Late 1991 Paul Geary leaves Extreme to persue other interests, and Mike Mangini steps in on drums. In the next few years, Extreme releases two more CD's which are met with disappointing sales despite critical acclaim.

1994 plays the role of Jesus in the Boston Rock Operas rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar to critical acclaim. (and he was FANTASTIC in it--it made many of us feel he should head towards Broadway!!)

1996 Extreme's former manager (and Gary's personal friend), Steve Hoffman is working for SRO, Van Halen's management company. Steve approaches Gary about doing some writing with Eddie, and on a sultry August evening, Gary boards a flight to LA, and about a month later is named the replacement to Sammy Hagar.

1999 After taking a beating at the hands of VH fans, Gary announces that he and VH are parting ways in an amicable split.

2000 Gary forms Tribe of Judah with Leo Mellace, Pat Badger, Mike Mangini (Tommy Stewart covering some of the live shows on drums), and Steve Ferlazzo. They release one CD, which fizzles.

2005 Gary releases a solo CD with lots of jazz and softer rock influences.

That's about it.

Greg says "hi" back and wants to know how on earth you and I "know" each other. :rotfl2:

He'll be at the show June 30th--I would have been more than a bit surprised if he wasn't going to be!

Anne

Too funny!!! Did you tell him how we 'know' each other??? :rotfl2:

I agree with the Duck Tour...they are a blast!!!!!

There's also a boat you can get over by the Aquarium (sort of across the street from Quincy Market) that takes you over to the USS Constitution. A fun trip, then you tour the ship and there's a gift shop...all told, probably kills and hour or so of your day.

Rbuzzotta. I think it was record town in the mall?

And Anne I don't see any mention of record town in Garys BIO!

twinmom.................I think you are correct!!! Record Town!! Wow!!! I used to live in that Mall and Tellos!!!! LOL!!

I hope you'll be stopping by cheers to say hello to good ol' Normy and I. No trip to beantown is complete without a brewski with us!

Cheers!

How do you know them so well? (sorry if too personal), just wondering if your from the same area as us! Anyways, send them both my best and hopefully I can get to the concert!!!

You guys are cracking me up! We always say everyone in Malden has at least one Extreme friend! I didn't grow up here, but was close (in Beverly). My best friend Brian worked for them for years. He was Paul's drum tech, Gary & Nuno's assistant and did whatever else they needed here for local shows, on the European tour with Bon Jovi and in Miami working on "Three Sides" (I think it was that one - I was busy running fan clubs and promoting bands no one's ever heard of, anyone remember Mass, Bang or Spread Eagle??)
Anyway, Brian is in LA and we're going on a cruise so we won't be here for the show. That's one reuinon I'd love to see!
Anne, can you PM me your website link? I'd love to see your work.

I worked for Extreme on and off for three years.

OMG! I LOVED Brian! I still remember the name of the stamp company he worked for --InlyDinkyDoo, LOL! I have a great photo of him with "big hair" someplace. What's he up to? I'm going to PM you with my e-mail address as well, if you could pass it on to him that would be great, and let him know that Scottso's e-mail has changed, so if he doesn't have it I'll give it to him.

I absolutely remember Mass. Didn't Brian work for Spread Eagle? I want to think if not then they were one of his favorite bands, I know he used to talk about them alot. Do you remember Vice or Run 21/Jimmy Carter Project? Rob Rock from Vice is now in a Christian band down here in Tampa--I was talking to Mike Mushock about him a couple months ago. My friend Tracey is still in touch with Doug. What a small world!

Sorry it took so long to get back to the DIS---I had asked if you were in close contact and see that you are! Ask them if they remember John D'Oto and going to his house!!

I'll send Greg an e-mail. He's got a pretty good memory.

I just sent you a PM before I saw this. Brian worked for Spread Eagle, we ran the fan club together and he was Tommi's drum tech. We did the same for Mass until Spread Eagle got big enough to need all my time and Brian went to Europe with Extreme.
He has NO hair now!! I didn't know Vice or Run21, Brian was more into those bands than I was. I'll make sure he gets your message!

Actually I think I knew he has no hair now. Scottso sent me a photo with somebody (Brian?) and Joan Jett four or five years ago now. I've gotten little bits and pieces about what he's been doing, but I didn't know he had moved to CA.

Here's an oldie but goodie--taken at the Kid Ego video shoot in 1988:

That's Steve Hoffman (Steve's Brother Robby played in In The Pink, the band Pat was in before joining Extreme). I think Brian is behind him to the right, and Pat and Paul are way in the back to the left. I have no idea who the guy in the red pants could be.
