I'm way too much of a newbie to off you any suggestions. I've just got to say when you get all of this gear loaded up, I think I'd like to see a pic! All of that gear in one place - wow! Kinda like heaven! Will you carry all of this gear in the park in one bag? Will you have help carrying it all? Will you rent a locker? This is the one thing about carrying extra lenses and tripods that scares me - carrying it all around.

I can only think of one thing you forgot and its an important one. An assistant to carry all your gear. The good news is that I've already blocked the time off from work and all you need to do is fly me down, feed me, and get me accommodations. Otherwise, I'll do it for free.

Believe it or not, we are. We're aiming for a high-tech hillbilly motif. We decided that we'll probably do short days at the parks because of the crowds and heat. Because of that, we decided to double our usual one week trip and stay for two. We want to stay on property and we want to keep the cost down. Camping is cheap and gives us a place to prepare our own breakfasts and dinners. The biggest problem is the heat. To deal with that, we added a window AC unit to our tent's vestibule.

12 days huh? Well I'll be headed up on June 3 myself, which is 10 days away. So I'm presuming we'll overlap. I'll be on the lookout for you with that rig, now that I know what to look for!

I won't have the harness/vest part of the outfit, but I'll still be pretty recognizable. I'll have my belt and my 5D. You can also recognize me by my wife and kids that have been in so many of the pictures posted here. Just keep your eyes open for a short, goofy looking guy taking pictures of the strangest things.


BTW, the car PC is working. We gave it a test run when we went to the pool. The kids use their iPod touches or our iPhones to control it. They watch it on the monitors mounted into our headrests. They can select from over 1,000 movies, TV shows, and shorts. The sound goes through the car stereo system or through headphone jacks built into the seats. I've still got a bunch of TV shows, Youtube clips, and other shorts to load on it before we leave. My hard to impress older son took in this technical marvel for about a minute and then asked "why isn't it connected to the Internet?" Next year, son.

if you really want to be authentic, that calls for the AC to be mounted in the rear slider window of a pick up truck and the tent has to be exchanged for a homemade plywood slide-in camper usually painted black or just left "natural" in the truck bed.

Ooops, I left that off my list. My wife and I will have iPhones. She sometimes uses hers to take pictures, so I listed it. The boys will be getting iPod Touches for the trip, but I don't think those have cameras on them.

I mix it. I typically fill one camera backpack or one shoulder bag with the main stuff and carry that on. I put the tripod legs and other stuff in a checked bag. On this trip, we'll be driving, so it won't be an issue. On my next trip (to Colorado), I'll probably either be driving or flying a private plane, so it won't be an issue there either.

Just don't forget the batteries. Have fun!!!!

Most of the batteries are in the picture. I do have bunches of AA and AAA batteries for the flashes, headlamps, and other stuff we'll be bringing.

I remain surprised that you have so much invested yet your only prime is the absolute cheapest one that money can buy. Different strokes, I guess.
