I have the Bare Mineral foundation (powder) less than 3 oz. Can I keep that in my purse or should I put it in my checked in bag? My family is telling me to put all my make-up in my checked in bag. Is the mascara considered liquid? Should I put that in the clear 1 quart plastic bag? Please help..

I haven't flown in six years. Does all the international flight planes has the flat tvs on each seat? Do you still pay to use the earphones? Are the meals free or do I have to pay for them? Are there phones on each rows where you swipe your CC?

Any tips/suggestions are welcome. Thank you. I'm a bit nervous here. :scared:

Mineral Powder make up is not considered a liquid. You do not have to have it in the quart size bag. You can put it in your carry on without a problem. I have never put my mascara in there either (never thought about it). Not sure if others have had an issue with it or not.

I'm not sure if ALL international flight have the screens in the seats now. I have been on them before in the past couple of years without them. The last time I flew internationally (18mo ago) we did have to pay for the earphones. BUT you can use the earphones from your Ipod but if I remember correctly you only ear from one earphone. There are splitters (is that the right word) that allow them to work for both earphones.

Thank you for the quick response! I just want to clarify this please.
I just bought a netbook. I can put this on my carry-on bag as long as it's in their own case and I just need to take it out of the carry-on bag and put it in the bin when I go through the security gate?

It's going to be a loooong flight. 20 hrs flight. I have got to keep myself busy.
I just hope that the folks around me are Disney fanatic like myself!

Yes, you will need to take the computer out of the case and put it in a bin by itself to go through security. Have everything where you can easily remove them at security, computer, liquids, and shoes. It will make your life easier as well as the people behind you.

And have a great trip Telly!

Any powder make-up (foundation, eyeshadow, etc) does not need to be in the ziploc bag. Only gels, liquids and aerosols. And yes, mascara does count as a gel so I put it in the ziploc. You should check the liquids/gels requirement for the country you are visiting as well. The guidelines vary by country.

As for movie screens, depends on the airline and the aircraft. When you go online to see your reservation it may tell you if they have the personal screen TVs. I have not seen phones on a plane in years.

You will need to take your computer out and put it in a separate bin by itself. Not with your shoes and ziploc bag, etc. Also, if you have a kindle or nook, it has to go in a bin as well, but I usually put mine in the same bin as the laptop.

I hope that helps. Have fun on your trip!

Hi Telly,

I fly international frequently. The powder make up is fine. The mascara and lip gloss is a crap shoot. Some TSA agents make you put them in the bags so I just go ahead and put them in so I don't have to worry. Eye drops, too.

Yes, you can take your laptop easily. They do make me turn it on at security to prove it's a computer??? :confused3 So you put it in the bin, and then take it out and turn it on when/if they request it. Shut it off and go on your way. I always worry...what if my battery has run out and I can't get it on?:lmao:

And I'm sorry to tell you that if you are flying economy on one of the big American airlines (United, American, Delta) you will NOT have individual on-demand tvs at your seats. :( You will if you fly business class in those airlines though. (Well, at least United. Not sure about the others in business class)

If you fly an international carrier (such as Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, Qantas) you WILL have on-demand tv individually at your seat in economy.

Hope that helps. Happy flying!

Maybe international is different but I have flown hundreds of times with a computer and never once was asked to turn it on.

I haven't been asked to turn on my computer in at least 5 years (including many international flights). It does have to come out of my carry-on bag though. Many airports now allow it to stay in its neoprene sleeve -as long as it is the only thing in the sleeve.

I haven't seen telephones in the back of seats in years either.

The question about tvs etc totally depends on the airline (and the type of aircraft).

Yeah, I've never had to turn mine on (and I fly internationally frequently, although rarely through the US). However, I have had it swabbed for explosives a number of times.

I never fly with my computer in its own case...I always just put it in my backpack; however, as others have said, it needs to go in its own bin when you go through security (although only in some countries).

OP - where are you going, and which airline are you travelling on? If it is a codeshare, you may still have an individual screen even on an American airline. Meals are usually free on international flights, as are headphones (although, again, if we knew what airline you were flying we could tell you for sure!). There are no longer any seatback phones on airplanes, but you can use your cell as soon as the seatbelt lights are off.

Thank you everyone for the infos, tips, and well wishes!

I'm flying to the Philippines on Delta (merged with Northwest). I have a layover in Tokyo for about 1 hr and a half. 747-400 plane. I believe I'm flying the same plane to Manila.

Thanks for sharing that link. Good site!

Our last three or four international flights have mostly had personal screens in coach (we mostly fly Delta). We've had them on a three flights to London and one to Germany last year.

Hit or miss.

My family and I flew on Delta last summer on our trip to Ireland. All total, we were on 5 different planes (roundtrip) and all but one (our initial flight from west palm to atlanta) had TVs. Some were just TVs with free movies and pre-recorded tv programming. One or two I believe had the ondemand where we could watch live TV.

I also use bare minerals and had all my makeup in my carry on...I just crammed it all in a ziploc bag and had no problems at all.
