Tonya-I am glad you posted this. When I read the OP's post I went back to my morning paper because I knew I had just read identical triplets were born in Pittsburgh on 9/30/09. I thought I was crazy. Well, now that is another topic all together.
I'm not sure where they got their numbers from, but 1 in a million sure makes for a better catch phrase on the news.
I know of (through online triplet communities) 5 other sets of identical triplets. They are definitely out there, but fraternal or a combination of two identical and one fraternal is far more common.
