Hi everyone,

DBF proposed on the evening of the 28th, while opening presents at his parents'. We've been together for almost three years, living together for two of those, so it wasn't a big shock- however, I'm totally overwhelmed!

I guess I had thought I'd be a bit older (I'm only 22) and also that I'd have some time to just enjoy being engaged before starting to plan the wedding. Both sides of the family are already asking for details! Is it normal to want some time to just sit on it and adjust, or is it my latent committment-phobe coming out? I mean, I've always known I want to marry him, it just feels so fast now that it's actually happening!

Congrats! :cheer2:

I think people think all sorts of things when they get engaged, and most of them are normal. Planning a wedding can be a huge task, and I can understand why you might want some time to let it sink in. I was engaged for two years before I was married, and absolutely loved it!

lol, yeah, I was thinking at least a year and a half... and then DF was like "I was thinking maybe 8 months?".... my first thought was "no way, that's way too fast!" He'll still be in school then.... I guess we'll at least figure out a month/year soon. And where... seeing that we live in Northern VA, his family is in Southern VA and my family is in Western NY.

Congratulations!!!!!:yay:
Take all the time you want and just enjoy being engaged for awhile.

Congratulations!!!!

our engagement was 1.5 years. DW had the hall booked two weekends sfter I proposed and they said it was tthe last saturday night they had available that year (in the warm wedding season, I'm sure we could have gotten a november date)

I think that is a good time to wait. Not too short and not more than 2 years waiting....
Plus you can go through a whole wedding season and check out everything for tthe big day. And save money for the WDW honeymoon!!!!

We were engaged for 13 months. But also booked the hall right away, they actually picked the date for us, we wanted it to be warm, and July 1996 was what they had opened. Actually it was reserved without a deposit, they called the other bride while we were there; she released the date.

If you have somewhere in particular in mind, I suggest securing it now, even if its a couple years away - places fill up quickly.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats :goodvibes . It's not unusual to feel overwhelmed a bit. Take sometime to enjoy your engagement. The planning will take on a life on it's own before you know it.

CONGRATS!!! Take your time - but - also bear in mind you live together already. There's nothing to be "scared" of as far as marriage goes - kwim? It's taking what you ALREADY HAVE and making it formal. Don't let that throw you off - kwim?

Personally I would be flattered that your DF wants to have a short engagement :)

woo hoo.. congrats!! Im like you.. me and DF have lived together for 5 1/2 years and he proposed last February.. even though we live together it is excited and overwhelming at the same time.. I get married this April... Cant wait..

congrats...

Take your time. It is so much fun being engaged, enjoy it. Don't let anyone rush you.

Yay! Such wonderful news (from one engaged girl to another - we've been engaged for 13 months and we get married this Saturday)

Enjoy the planning - I thought it was spectacularly fun!!!

I got engaged at WDW in the Haunted Mansion Stretch room June 23, 2003 and we still have no wedding date yet.
We are in no hurry and we are in our early 30's. Since your in your early 20's I see no problem waiting at least a year before you start planning and take a year to plan your wedding. You only get married once so might as well make sure your wedding day is all you want it to be.
CONGRATULATIONS! :yay: :cheer2:

Congrats. My fiancée and I will be engaged for 11 months when we get married in Sept 07. We booked our venue about two weeks after we got engaged since it's on Labor Day weekend. If we hadn't we wouldn't have gotten the place we wanted.

As far as feeling rushed, planning a wedding can be a little over whelming, so just take it one step at a time, but enjoy planning it. We took the entire month of December off from wedding planning, and used the time to relax and enjoy the holiday season.

Congratulations! :bride:
Now you can change the name above your picture to fiancée Steve.

Congratulations! My engagement was approximately 11 months. It worked for us, but I've also known plenty of people who've waited a really long time too. 1 year seems to be average for most people we know but that doesn't mean anything. Truth be told, our wedding was planned around WDW value season so we could take the best honeymoon we could afford. The honeymoon was booked WELL before the wedding. :rotfl2:
