I'm done with Disney vs. I'll take a break

I have only been on the disboards for a little over a year and when I first started it was great I found a place where I could share my love of Disney with a bunch of the same kind of people. Now with all of the changes facing Walt Disney World and MyMagic+ I have seen a lot of negativity and heated threads concerning the system. Just today on the Disunplugged podcast they announced the top Disboard threads of the month and the top four were all about FP+ pr MyMagic+. I have read a lot of these threads and put my input in some of them.

I have yet to experience the system as my last vacation to the world was in 2012 right before the changes. In all my experiences I have never had something bad enough for me to consider not coming back. I may have had a bad time at a restaurant or with a CM but nothing that makes me think that we have wasted my money to come here. My family is planning a trip for this year and I love the disboards for the fact that it helps me plan my vacation and get more out of it than I used too.

With that being said a lot of these heated threads or posts have a number of people saying they will never return to WDW. I think that is unfortunate some posters think it will be good because less people at the parks means more for me, but that is untrue because the disboards make up a very small amount of what is in WDW on a given day. So my proposal of sorts is for people to play the wait and see game rather than just saying I'm done. We all know that there are issues with the system and Disney knows that too, we have yet to see what they will do though.

It is great to vacation other places than WDW and I'm sure most of us have gone other places than disney and had a good time. No one forces you always have to go to Disney but to say you'll never go back because of a system that unfortunately is in testing and does not have all the glitches worked out is sad. Thats why I think people should be more positive about the system and say I'm done for now maybe I'll come back in a few years instead of every year or two. And then if after lets say five years its still not to your liking you still don't have to come back.

The disboards is a place where a lot of people talk about one thing they all share in common and that is Disney. Whether your a WDW or DL veteran or a first time visitor to either. This place is for people to discuss topics on disney is a un-hateful manner. A lot of first time guests also come here for planning help and with all these negative posts I feel as if they are being scared away from asking those planning questions.

Despite all the negative posts recently, over 50% say the magic is still alive. Less than 10% said the magic is gone. Others in between.

I've seen a lot of posts recently along the lines of "I expected it to be bad but I liked it!".

I look at it this way . . .things are constantly changing, some for the better, some for the not so better . . .WDW has always held a special place in my heart and always will.

When we go to WDW we aren't just there for the rides/attractions, we are there getting a break from reality.

I can understand people's frustrations with things, but there is no such thing as the "perfect" vacation . . .I have seen so many things in our many years of going to WDW and see that people try to plan their every second of every day and you see many crabby, negative people and I just say to myself "why?" its a vacation . . a chance to be with your family without having to go to work, without having to plan what's for dinner, without any stress, cares or worries . . .I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I really don't care if I go on all the rides I want and I don't have to get to a certain place at a certain time. People just need to learn to chill and relax and take it slow, look at the scenery.

That being said, I can't wait to go back . . .

thats a change of pace but they must not get a lot of traffic as I haven't seen many of those. Just today they said the top four threads were about having problems with FP+.

I'm reasonably sure that there's only been a handful of people vowing not to return and a much larger population doing just what you say.

Firstly, I don't think we need to discuss things in a hateful manner either. But just because someone says something negative doesn't mean it's hateful. Not saying that's what you are implying, just want to get that out there.

Second, I couldn't disagree more about the negative posts and the first time guest. Actually, I'm not a first time guest but I was one once. Well, going for the first time as a married-staying onsite-bringing my family-guest. I needed lots of help since the only trips I had to WDW were as a teenager and we stayed at the "onsite" hotel, Royal Plaza and the only park was the MK.

I came on here, read the good, the bad and the ugly. It helped me SO much. Still does. I can't tell you how much I appreciate someone coming back (especially if it's an offsite guest since that's what we will be next month. And I truly think fp+ is much worse for us as compared to an onsite guest. But I hope that won't be for long) and telling me how to plan. That they found long lines and it's important to be at RD and do this and do that.

The only thing worse than reading a negative post on here is NOT reading it and arriving and being blind sided and standing there thinking, "why didn't I know this before I got here".

And I'm currently helping 2 families plan a WDW vacation so how bad do I think the place can be? It's still Disney. Our family might decide to give it a break for a while after this next trip but we still have great memories from there and I will help any friend who wants to plan a vacation there. But as was done for me, I will tell them the good, the bad and the ugly. Fortunately, there is more of the first in that list,imo.

I'm in the taking a break camp. I just don't want to deal with this right now and even when I try to be positive I tend to be wrong so I'll just keep a relatively low profile. It's not fun right now, not to me anyway, but it could be later on. Time will tell.

I have seen a few more of those of late, but those I have seen have been mostly from people who have been and experienced FP+, and then made the decision.

Most people i've seen are taking the wait and see approach - myself included.

Well I have been around this discussion board for awhile now. Never have I seen such a large amount of negative posts. There seem to be plenty even if you leave out MB's and FP+. I have to believe that something is going on with Disney. What, I'm not quite sure, but I don't believe that this community of Disney lovers has changed that much.

I agree.

I think that you're seeing primarily two groups. Those who are disappointed with what is going on at the moment and those who are OK with things at this time and often will defend WDW at all cost. Both groups seem to get pretty keyed up at times.

Personally, I don't like the new system because it doesn't fit my nature but I'm trying to be patient and see what develops down the road. I also see some other problems at WDW but I've just set them aside for now.

I'm new around these parts so I don't really know anyone or their histories. That said, my observation of the people saying they'll never return, the magic is gone etc etc is coming from people that have been going to WDW every year, sometimes multiple times a year. I know if I did ANYTHING that often, my shiny view would dull a little.

WDW is my most favorite place on earth...but there IS more out there. We go every couple years, and on off years spend our vacation budget somewhere else. I want my children to see a lot and experience other places. If we went to the same place every year, it no longer is special after a time.

Being new, I take the negative posts with a grain of salt. There will always be dissenters, and they are usually the loudest. I'll go to Disney and have a magical time regardless. Then next year maybe the Grand Canyon. Then we'll miss WDW and do it all over again!

Hey, that was me!! But change "liked" to "LOVED"!!

There have been a few posters recently who said that they felt it all came down to expectations. I couldn't agree more. If you love the thought of just being in WDW, plan on getting your FP+ rides for sure and probably a few more, make some fun ADRs, plan for something that's a sure thing like the little motor boats around the lake, or Keys to The Kingdom Tour, don't expect more,and be totally OK with that,then you will have a great time. Chances are huge that you will be able to do even more than that, and that would feel extra magical. It did for us!

But I TOTALLY understand why this would not be enough for many folks, especially considering the cost!! If I loved Hawaii because of the beautiful hikes, the hotels, visiting the pineapple plantations, and biking around the towns, I could have a wonderful time even if the week before I left I found out that the beaches in Hawaii are now only open for a couple hours a day. So I'm excited as punch about my trip, and tell everyone who's disappointed to look on the bright side.

But if I and my family go to Hawaii because of the beaches and being able to spend all day surfing and playing in the sand with my children, and then read on the Aloha Discussion Board that the beaches are only open from 1:00 to 3:00pm daily, I'm going to be upset. And, I would write about it all night long on the Boards. And, I am going to seriously consider not going back.

Who's right? Both!

It's simply about what you and your family are wanting from your vacation
If you want what WDW is able to guarantee, then go! If not, you shouldn't be blamed for having second thoughts, or, for being upset about the changes.

We went to Disney between Christmas and stayed until after New Year's. We stayed at WL. I was very skeptical of the whole FP+ and Magic Band thing, but it actually turned out pretty great for us. We got to the parks early in the morning, just like we normally do. We rode most of our favorite rides multiple times while we were in that park for the day. We were given KTTW cards and we did use them to get traditional FPs a couple of times (flame away if you want), but we toured just as we normally did and did the things we normally do. I do get the whole "I don't want to have to schedule when I want to ride Peter Pan", but this is what they're going to.

This is where I'm at. Definitely in the "I'm taking a break" camp. I can only travel during peak seasons, and Legacy FP made my trips much more enjoyable. I used FP+ in combination with Legacy FP during a December trip, and that trip would have been much less enjoyable had we been constrained to FP+ only. During summer, spring break, and major holiday weekends, I've always been able to see the attractions I want by combining early arrival with at least 4-5 FP's per day spread throughout multiple parks. I also enjoyed the flexibility of not having to "lock in" my attractions weeks in advance.

I am planning on taking a break in hopes that Disney listens to feedback and tweaks the system. In the meantime, I will be very interested in reading reports from Easter week and summer trips. It doesn't so much matter to me that someone traveling the first week of February had a great experience with FP+. I'll never be able to travel that week, so I need to be realistic about what to expect during school breaks. We're skipping Disney this spring break, and I'm not booking my annual December trip unless things change, or unless Easter/summer trip reports are overwhelmingly positive. I'm not saying I'll never return to WDW if things don't change, but I'll probably take far fewer trips.
