How foolish of me.
So I pay to get into the parks to look around, and the rides are just a side item they are nice enough to let me use once in awhile.

According to some people, yes. You should just be happy they let you in the gate and you get to be there.

This Dis is like high school. The "cool" kids are the ones who bash Disney at every turn. Every issue is blown out of proportion. I picture those people as wearing leather jackets and smoking.

The "nerds" are the people that try and stay optimistic, and also those who follow the rules. They get that Disney is first and foremost a business and are selling us a product. One that we can buy or not buy. Those are the people that in my mind have cuffed jeans and nerd glasses.

The Dis is a discussion board. A discussion board about Disney.

That includes people from all over the world, with many varied opinions about Disney.

Geez louise, talk about insulting people. Didn't you make a remark a few pages ago about how these types of posts don't get us anywhere?

And posts like this are why things get so heated on the Dis. Some people can't take it that others have a different point of view. They mock others to make themselves feel better. Sad.

I just think her comment is a bit hypocritical, given her comments a few pages back.

Geez. It's a park. The BEST ONE IN THE WORLD. 99% of people out there can just buy tickets and go have fun.

That would be me! After having actually stayed onsite, you couldn't force me at gunpoint to stay again. To me, offsite is the only way to go. You can come and go as you please, never have to make ADR's and spend so, so, so much less for a Disney Vacation.

Of course, the downside is that it's possible that Disney, in it's infinite wisdom is going to make it less magical for those of us that don't spend the family fortune or our kids inheritance on a trip.

Even then, if an acquaintance were to ask me about the place, I don't try to convince them that my way is for everyone. I have a daughter and a sister that do not want to go unless they are onsite. OK, that's their thing and why should I care as long as they have a good time.

But in summary...all that stuff is not required to have a good time, that is in the mind of the guest.

Yes, WDW *is* that complicated and is becoming more so, thanks to FP+.

I spend three times as much time planning WDW vacations than I do any other vacations. I don't even plan that much. I can't imagine how many hours are wasted by uber-planners.

This is because you want to, not because you have to. So many more ppl -- really all those who go who are not out here on the DIS which is some 99% of all Disney-goers... plan way less than you or I do yet they enjoy their vacation just as much.

We went to Wis Dells one year, and spent around $3000 for 3 days... now we're going to Dis and will spend about $6000 in 6 days... so comparably, yeah Disney isn't that much more expensive. I planned so much more at Disney cuz I love it that much more, and because there are things I can plan, and want to do. There are restaurants I want to go to. I can't even name a single restaurant at Wis Dells. The planning is cuz we love it so much and want to do it and (gasp) I enjoy it -- not cuz it's required.

How many times have you read a post here where someone is shaking their head in disbelief because their cousin, co-worker, neighbor came back from their trip disliking Disney immensely, a fate that could have been avoided with proper research and planning -- which would have been done if they had only listened to the person posting about it here? Bet you it's not hard to find dozens of those posts here, followed up by plenty of those in agreement at the foolishness of not researching and planning -- and some gleeful dancing thrown in at the lack of planning by others meaning more or better of whatever advantage the veterans in the know gain.

More and more and more over the years Disney requires planning to enjoy the things you want out of your visit. IMO they've reached the point where I feel I'm punching a timeclock for a greatly diminished experience. No thanks.

Guess that means more for others satisfied with the status quo. Enjoy. Doesn't mean I can't speak my mind.

1st def: Capable of or suitable for comparison. Disney's and Universal's quick ride system are certainly capable of being compared, and it's most definitely suitable to do so since ppl will want to know what the pros and con s of each are.

2nd def: Similar, or Like... The two systems again are similar and like in that they have many traits in common, yet many traits that differ. They are not identical, but they are similar.

That's like saying a Honda is comparable to a Toyota. Of course they're vastly different in some ways, but generally speaking, they are comparable. I will certainly maintain that the Disney FP system and SF Flash Pass and Universal's system are all comparable --

* They can be compared.
* It is suitable and appropriate to attempt to compare them.
* And they have many traits in common including their primary goal of managing ride queues to increase profit. They may do so by different methods but they are definitely comparable.
* Being similar functions offered by competing companies is what drives ppl to compare them.

You do realize you can stay onsite without making ADR's, right?

I also don't understand "you can come and go as you please." How can you not do that if you stay onsite? (Unless you're not driving/renting a car; but you can always use a taxi).

Don't get me wrong; I think you get better accommodations for your money offsite, but staying onsite has nothing to do with making ADR's or your freedom of mobility.

There's also a difference between the person who has already been there many times and the person on their first trip. The person who has been there many times doesn't need to plan every minute because they already know what they like to do and how to do it. So they don't have to plan as much because they are drawing on their prior experience. There is a big difference between that situation and a first-timer just showing up with nothing planned or researched.

For all of the Uber Planners, do you vacation anywhere else other than Disney?
The reason I am asking is because if you love to plan so much doesn't it get less challenging the more you plan for the same place? I mean you already know what is there and where everything is located.

My wife wants to go someplace new every year. I end up doing the planning and while I don't hate doing it ,lets say I don't really love it either. I try to convince her to go back to a place we liked because it makes my planning life easier because I know the lay of the land so to speak.

As you know, it's going to come down to each individual. I guess if you want to say here you get unlimited and there you get 3, well of course unlimited is better! But, Disney World rides are "more valuable" in terms of supply and demand - Too many ppl want to ride the mine train. If you give Disney guests unlim access, everyone would have no access. Universal only has 3 resorts worth of guests getting that benefit whereas WDW has 20-something resorts worth of guests.

Personally, I would enjoy riding the Mine Train - once - in a stay than ride the Hulk at Universal 10 times. That's why I'm going to WDW. I can ride Hulk-like rides right here at home. I have two Six Flags w/in a day trip. If I go to Universal it would be to experience the new Diagon Alley, not for the roller coasters.

Are you saying there is more demand at Disney because there is less supply? Also when you say Disney guests do you mean those staying in Disney lodging or just everyone in the park? Because many have said if Disney offered it as a pay to play they would pay. Also at Universal those not staying @ one of the 3 resorts can purchase unlimited so it would be a benefit to more than just those guests.
So if you don't like to ride thrill rides then the Universal pass would not be a great value to you even if they offered it for next to nothing. Fair enough.
