How far out do people normally book their airline tickets

It really depends for me. I watch prices and I buy when the price is at a fair price. Many people like to wait until 1-2 months out, but not me.

Also, when I am planning to use air miles, I book as early as possible to make sure I get the choice of flights I want.

I chose 3-5 months, but really I should have thought more about it, because often times I find really cheap airline tickets and book them before I book the reservation. I also always book southwest so if the tickets go down or are better a different day, I change them and then change my reservation. Always the bargain hunter. LOL

Normally, I find the best prices about 6 -7 weeks out.

I start looking as soon as I book, being DVC that is at least 7 months out. I ususally have a number I want to come close to for airfare. If those are available 7 months out, I grab them. If not, I play the game. I don't worry until about 6 weeks out unless it is a busy travel day. I voted for 3-5 months because ususally somewhere in that time frame I find good prices.

Leisure it varies from about 2 - 4 months (choose 3-5 in the options). Business, usually it's about 1 - 2 weeks.

I check every day. Right now they are posting Sept. so I have to wait to book my Dec. 2011 flight.

I usually get airline tix about 6 months out. I am a DVCer and I typically book my ressies 9 to 11 months out, then modify my ressie as I look for airline deals.

Thanks everyone for answering. I only asked because normally I book at the 10-11 month mark but the prices are so high these days. I noticed that the prices seem to go down as you get closer to the the actual date and just wondered if people waited it out.
