I'm cheating on my true love...

Thebecka:

I wish I could do both cruises this year...unfortunately, we travel off peak value season and can't take my DS out of school for 2 weeks...

We have sailed on the Magic twice, (almost three times on 11/30) , but would book on RCCl on the "Voyager" class ships i a minute. They are spectacular. Other than the shows and a slight deduct for the kids areas, we think they equal or exceed DCL. The Promenade area is wonderful, as are the rooms overlooking it...

I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to "stray" from your "true love" .. at least as far as cruising is concerned !!!

This trip was just too cheap to pass up - we'll be on Monarch of the Sea. I have read a lot of pros and cons about this ship, but the price for 5 days was soooo low! Hey, it is going to have to be pretty darn bad before I'm disappointed because I have very low expectations to begin with. My idea of gourmet dining is apple jelly instead of grape on my peanut butter sandwiches so I won't be fussy about food. I don't want to do any excursions, I've loved every show/ act I've seen on DCL and some of them were pretty bad according to others I was with. As long as RCCL provides me and my DD (adult) with 3 hots and a cot ( and a chair on deck in the sun) I will be a happy camper. Just looking for a little R&R to tide me over until our 4 nite Wonder cruise in March.

I am also straying from my true love.....!! Only to keep my TRUE love happy.

We are saling on the Voyager with another couple in Feb. There is a part of me that is kind of sad that we won't be on the Magic. I know that the service on the Voyager could never live up to that of DCL, but I do hope the entertainment and food are comparable.

Do not fret!! When I was on the Wonder in October (99$ cruise) I booked the Magic- Western for our family for 1/18/04!! Now I just have to tell DH, DD10, DD6 and DS3 that we are going on the Magic again!!!

We sailed on the Majesty in 94 (before Majesty Cruise Line was bought out by RCCL) and on the Sovereign of the Seas in 99.

Just to clarify a previous post above. The Majesty you are speaking of is now the Norwegian Majesty. NCL bought Majesty Cruise Line and their one ship in 1997. She was stretched in 1999, but is still a smaller ship. The Majesty of the Seas (which is almost double the size) was built specifically for RCCL.

Norwegian Majesty sawed in half. I love this picture!

after 3 DCL 7-day cruises, the experience has become a little too predictable....same menus (although I am pleased they changed the PC menu) and same entertainment (Michael Harrison, Mouseketeer, Morty, et al)....we love DCL but wish they would shake things up a little, given the number of repeat guests...

Thanks for the info! That's especially interesting since RCCL gave me credit for sailing that Majesty toward their "Crown and Anchor Society!" Extra perk! Yippee!

Loved the pics!!!

I sailed on the Voyager and LOVED it. We are taking the Legend in Alaska this summer. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me anytime. Have a great vacation!

WOW! How do you get a $99 cruise? we are getting ready to book our first disney cruise, have sailed 2 times on carnival. 4 days on fantasy & 7 days on destiny. This will be our GS's first cruise.

The $99 cruise was an extra special, limited time offer for cruisers that sailed in January '02. Those lucky few were given the opportunity to book a 3 night sailing for last fall for $99....

do all cruise lines keep the same shows year after year on their ships? I love DCL, but am excited about seeing new menus and new shows on this upcoming RCCL cruise. I was thinking how on our last cruise on the Wonder I barely had to glance at a menu - I knew them by heart. I knew everything that was going to happen in the shows, I even knew everything that would happen at the deck parties, etc. It was all great and I have never seen any ships as beautiful as the Magic and the Wonder, but I would love to see some more changes. I was thinking about booking our next 7 nite Magic trip while aboard the Wonder in March, but may decide to try something new instead. hmmm, big decisions........

Major lines rotate shows among different ships in their fleet. The chances of seeing the same one again is not that great. The smaller the fleet, the less variety. DCL not being viable enough to expand beyond its current duo does not help in the variety department.

BUSHFAN: I sent you an e-mail asking what ship was pictured at the bottom of your post and then discovered that different posts have different pictures, so the one I mean is the one above my post here.
It looks familiar but is not the MAJESTY that was stretched that you showed us pictures of on page 2.
Thanks,
Jan :earsgirl:

JLSE50,

The key is to have realistic expectations!!

We did not do RCCL...(but will be this fall!!) we went on Carnival Pride...I had researched & knew what to expect, so I was not at all dissappointed (rather impressed actually!!) But my husband was comparing to DCL at every turn. And...well ...Carnival (in my opinion) does not come close in the overall "feel" of a disney cruise. (though I hear RCCL comes closer!)

We want to cruise with Disney again, but have done all of their itineraries.... We are also waiting anxiously for news of a new ship!!

We love cruising & it is the perfect relaxing vacation for us to take with our two young kids ( 4 yrs. & 9 mos.) Our goal is to try all the major lines before the kids are tired of vacationing with us!! We are off to a decent start....Though Disney was probably not the best line to start out with!! We have certainly been spoiled!!

Enjoy your TWO upcoming cruises!! Sounds to me like you will have a great time!!

I'd sail on anything! LOL! Seriously, the colder it gets, the less picky I'm being about this RCCL ship. If they serve canned beans for dinner and hand me a hammock to sleep in, I'm still going to be away from the cold for a few days. It was when I heard our weatherman say it was colder in the Delaware Valley Wednesday then it was in some parts of Alaska, that the light finally went on in my brain - anything is better then cold wet socks, having to pile on half my wardrobe to get warm and trying to dodge the trashcans that the wind keeps blowing at me at 3:30 a.m. when I'm heading to my car for work. Cozumel here I come. LOL!

sandee,

We have not sailed on the Norway. It is an older ship, and from what I have heard, will "feel" like one, but that's not to say you would not enjoy it. It does have some incredible pricing available at times.

markmyboy is right .. be realistic...

BTW .. forecast wind chill in CT tonight is about -20 .... so anything that floats sound greaat !!

I have sailed on the Norway 3 times, but the latest was several years ago, so my impressions are from that last cruise.

It is a very nice ship, but it is older. However, that may be a good thing..... there are still items on the ship from when it was the SS France. The statues in the International lounge are huge and absolutely beautiful. They have a very nice small piano lounge. The food was good and the staff pleasant and helpful. The cabins are smaller than on DCL, even the "junior suite" we had on the last cruise was not any bigger than a Cat 5 on DCL.
Unless they have done some remodeling, there wasn't much space in the room they use for their kid's program. I have never sailed on her with children, so I can't vouch for their kid's program.
I think the ship is probably better suited to adults.

I have some very good memories of my trips on the Norway and would consider going again.
